    Love them or hate them but shopsmith has one of the nicest drill presses for woood workers. The adjustable table and fence. The miter can be locked into tje slide and set at any angle and the table tilts over 45 degrees. Not to mention the ability to be used horizontal as a boring machine. Great for using a mortiseing drill chisel.

    That is a great idea, nice, simple and functional. Very cool. It does lack something for tear out, like you get with a table and insert but that can be easily made. Definitely have me thinking about this. I was debating about building or buying on of the cheap wen drill press tables. Now I am not so sure. 👍🏼 As always, thank you for the video.

  • @petermenningen338
    @petermenningen338 Před 3 lety

    I love the idea and execution I have a large Dayton drill press with tee slot table so this would work well with it. I also created an extension table for it 4' long 8" wide out of steel reinforced with angle iron. I needed to support something heavy for a job about two years back.
    My discussion is how much it will cost me to ship to Maui That might eat up all of the discount.

    Hey Izzy! Know what I hate about drill presses? The location of the table height adjustment mechanism! When they improved the drill press to the one you have there, why didn't they run the release screw out to the front of the table where it would be convenient?! Maybe you could come up with a nice modification for us!

    Hi izzy. I was wondering if the voyager drill press has an adjustable height. I am very short, sitting down to be exact. I have always wanted a variable speed drill press and one with no internal belt adjustments looks like it may be the ticket. Great channel.

  • @craigphillips3154
    @craigphillips3154 Před 3 lety

    With regards to using the drill press for things other than drilling: Be careful about using a drill for anything that puts lateral forces (sideways pressure) on the chuck. Drills are only designed to take forces directly into the chuck. Anything (like a sander) that puts lateral forces on the chuck can prematurely wear out the chuck, the bearings, and the motor shaft.
    Everything else in the video was awesome and I love that fence system!

    Could this be configured for a band saw fence? It may not be perpendicular to the table but with a hole through each magnet on the back, an adjustment screw could be added to ensure it's perpendicular to the table. Just a thought.

  • @peterg902
    @peterg902 Před 3 lety

    Thanks for the video. Most people love the features including push buttons, sounds and the other bling bling. However, there are other very important factors to note. For example, testing for perpendicularity and runout - how straight left to right, and back to front are the holes etc - especially for longer holes. Can this be adjusted - especially front to back........or, out-of-the-box, are you stuck with whatever incorrect angle the column is? Many drill press manufactures talk the talk, but do not control these important factors well (which can be the bane of all woodworkers). Can you imagine spending so much money on a Nova to find out it drills vertically only as well or as badly as a $300-$500 drill press???

    I've got an improvement for that, or use in combination A drill press vice you can mag lock to the table.
    Ever try and drill a hole in steel bar or an odd shape that rocks and or rolls a vice is handy but bolting it to the table is a pain in the ass. this goes beyond hobby shop it works in a machine shop for a mill too.
