Fantastic video!! Was so confused as to how those clips were put on for the panel, but now I know. Thank you.
Fantastic idea- removes all the messing around leveling with the feet and filling the bath with water before sealing !!!
Great video, itâs made me more confident about tackling our bathroom, I am concerned about the socket outlet under the bath, when I have done aqualisia in the past the bathroom fitter has put the controls in the loft. That socket is in zone 1.
Thanks you for the bath panel clips been scratching my head today working that crap out, your a hero
Brilliant job, always a pleasure to watch your vids!
I enjoy all you videos find them very informative, Iâm about to put a new bath in myself so this one espiecially useful someone told me that when sealing the bath in I should fill it with water to allow for any movement would you say that was necessary. Keep up the good work.
Perfect timing just bought the exact same bath and was wondering about the reasoning for no middle support. I was thinking of putting a block of wood in the middle just as a precaution?
Thanks for the advice, some good tips here
I used your last bath installation video to fit my bath great videos thanks
No worries mate!
This little czcams.com/users/postUgkxVoi3B4CB6Oygq1-vo4OTL1M_M5JkrXif tub works perfect in our 6 x 6 shower and is easy to get in and out. Also easy to drain.
Hi great video, would you ever be able to do a video on integrated showers not a standard bar shower. Just find these tricky to do and would like to know if there is any easier way of fitting them.
Thanks
Not just a great video, but a fantastic channel overall. I have only done a few bits of plumbing related handywork around the house, but love watching your videos.
Anyway, i have two quick questions:
One. Followed your videos and swapped the taps on our bath. However, the bath panel is about 5 cm above the bottom of the lip. It came off and i can't get it back on. Any suggestions?
Two. Is it possible to buy a replacement panel for a corner bath? Or do you need to know they make/model/etc?
Keep up the awesome videos
Would you care to share the adhesive product trusted for the job there our jimmy? Thanking you!
Just about to put a bath in,this vid is helpful .good stuff
No worries!
Great videos just subscribed. I have this type of bath to fit. Does this bath not need fixing to the wall then I just glue it?
So no framing underneath the front edge of the bath? That's what I did, and it makes if much more solid, so the bath has support along all four edges. Particularly useful where people sit on the edge of the bath or put a lot of weight on it getting in and out.
This dude is awesome. Im now a pro plumber and never touched a pipe in my life. Hold tight
If you know your panel height ithen turn the bath upside down with the feet set to the desired height only if the floor is level and true, then turn back over to test fit, place wall brackets or a brace tied loose with a screw and washer that allows the installer access with a long screwdriver to screw the brace or brackets and tighten in the position securing the in er edge to the wall, always place something like a couple of pads of kingspan in center of bath and use a tiny bit of exp foam to secure and stop it squeaking... This makes the bath more secure when under load. It's pretty easy and with a considered approach it's probably a 15 min task at most đ waste and traps etc are a few mins each at most... It's all about understanding the work required and prioritising it so you are not spending unnecessary time going back and forth etc... Love your vids dude, I'm 22 years in trade and I'd not do anything other than getting the customer their wants needs or desires and the job satisfaction etc is better than the pay at times
Love the videos. I would love if you could do more on the cold water side of domestic household systems, everyone seems to only focus on the hot water side. There are so many different cold water configurations I find it hard to differentiate them especially in new builds where you have no cold water storage tank etc.
Great videos though, you are so good at making things easy to understand.
Ok dude, no worries! Have you got any particular questions? đ
In the case where you have no cold water storage tank, do they just use the mains water and tee off after the pressure reducing valve straight into the cold sinks and toilet cisterns? When I flush my toilet, is water coming straight in from the mains to replace it?
Yeah.
Hi mate Ive got private job coming up to swipe a shower tray for a bath wondering if you had any advise on best way to do it
For belt and braces side clips, thinking about 90 degree metal brackets. Some installation instructions show them pointing up, some down. Which is right in your opinion?
thanks for the tips
I'd nibble that piece of tile out under the bath foot. I'd be worried it's going to crack and would be removing the panel every other day to checkđ
I love this channel it has taught me so much
Cheers Raf!
plumberparts Hold tight đ
Thanks for the tios
I fitted one of these the other day. You can get the whole bathroom suite (toilet, basin, bath, bar mixer shower and glass side etc) for ~ÂŁ600 from Victorian so it says about quality. I did a dumb though and didn't measure the side panel first! Needless to say the inch and a half gap under the side panel wasn't a good start to the day! Seems pretty strong though, I found the tiler stood on the outside edge of it putting up 300x600 floor/wall tiles and it didn't flex! Love the editing quality though, turning yourself into a real Casey!
Ha! Cheers mate!
when you fit the batten are you screwing into studs or brick. If brick and plasterboard what screws are toy using?
Quick question - if the bath you have purchased does not have wood on the underside (to sit on the battens) would you a) stick wood on the underside yourself or b) secure the battens in such a way that it allows for the lip of the bath to slot in?
Would it be ok to put the middle leg from the old bath on the new bath?
If you wanted to keep the level of the bath low, could you install it on the floor without the legs? already got a sunken waste and trap from the last one
You rock mate!!!!
Hi...Iâm just about to fit a bath.my question is if youâve put the bath in level how is the water going to run away to the waste end when near empty?please
How about the classyseal around the bath where itâs touching the wall ?
It would be great to see you james dealing with a uneven floor and still install a bath.
Surely with 4 adjustable feet and a spirit level your sorted
Good video, felt your pain at points.. Clips, side panels đ©đ©.. Should you fill the bath with water before silicone it in?
Hi James great as usual. What brand of work trousers are you wearing? They look good.
Jobman mate. Lovely!
Nice one, I also glue the legs and nuts down , stop them getting rattly after a few years
Good point!
Probably been asked before but I can't see it, what size batons do you use please :)
What screws do you use for the baton? Is that into brick?
You know Buteline do transition fittings to allow you to plug straight into that Aqualisa box without having to join to the copper
Great Video, just waiting for my off set bath to arrive Monday and will install. Just one question with the baton you put round the bath, Will there be room to fit the taps.
There was on that job, but everyone is different!
4:45 - I thought it was just me who sat that way when on a job đđ» I'm not alone đ
Haha!
Brilliant video, very nice install! I had a couple of questions...I might have missed this, but once the bath is in and the feet are tightened up..what's to stop someone pulling the bath away from the wall? Is it glued or screwed onto the support battens? You did mention something around 10:10 but not sure if that's what you were talking about. Also, are the feet not screwed into the floor? I've seen this on a few baths but that bath doesn't seem to have screwholes...is it safer to drill a few holes into the plastic legs and secure to the boards/tiles? Thanks!
After fitting the same bath recently I answered my own questions.. the bath comes with plastic brackets that hold it to the wall. These are tricky to get on as I had to drill them to the wall from under the bath..a long drill bit and long screwdriver is handy here. I drilled pilot screwholes in the plastic feet and screwed them to the floorboards to stop them moving (although the weight of the bath will probably stop them moving as well). I also noticed that the centre of the bath could be pushed down a tiny bit, so I added a wooden baton support with legs myself for the centre to sit on, and screwed this to the floor with L brackets. Much more solid now and bath isn't moving anywhere.
Nice one mate, I'm doing mine tomorrow and it sounds like I have the same bath fittings as you. I will drill pilot holes into the feet as well... did you put wall battens and also did you glue the bath to the wall too? Thanks for any advice you can give đ
@@bigt8699 yes I built a wall frame for the bath using batons, just bear in mind it's not always possible to do that depending on how much room your taps need to get past the baton if that makes sense. Just baton where you can but no need to go overboard. No need to glue the bath to the wall as you can screw it to the batons with some kind of bracket, e.g. l brackets or maybe something flat. Each bath is slightly different so you kind of had to wing it as you go. One other thing I did is to attach a flexible sealing strip around the bath, this sticks to the bath and is tiled over to give a secondary seal in case the silicone ever fails. Have a look for MX sealing strip on internet.
Ok thanks mate đ I appreciate the advice
Love the videos. I would love to see waste pipe installation. I have an existing walk in wet room shower and i've been tasked with installing a bath but unsure what to do with the waste hole that is there already?? attach another small bit of pipe maybe?and then attach that to the bath trap?
Hi there, have you got any photos? Send them over to me via MESSAGE (or I won't see them) on my Facebook Page, or my Twitter page. I'll be able to help more! All the best, James.
Hi there James, Thanks for the reply. Instead of facebook and twitter i've uploaded my pics to my google drive just in case this comment thread could help someone else with the same issue. Here is the link to my pictures, It's a bit 'gunky' as i don't think anyone in our house knows that needs cleaning: drive.google.com/open?id=0BxLXOZBjHN-7bV9hbDVYZzZqRWc
Hello mate, I'd dig up the tiles around it (baths going over the lot right?) and find the 1 1/2" pipe underneath, then do standard solvent weld connections from there. Or you could bodge it and shove it the hole you see in the pic and silicone it up....I would NOT recommend that though!!!!
Great thanks. Once i've found the pipe and cut it would be be a case of fitting the following? www.screwfix.com/p/floplast-equal-tees-white-32mm-3-pack/70777
or www.screwfix.com/p/floplast-push-fit-equal-tee-white-92-5-87-5-32mm/12701
or do they do non-return equal t connectors??
Remember guys other brands and websites are available! :D
Can you demonstrate how to fit a free standing bath to replace a coventional bath please
Great vid mate just wana know what adhesive do u use??
CT1 usually.
Is it necessary to build a frame for the bath to sit in?
Is the tub supposed to be 100% level all around because I just had one installed & if you sit in it facing the faucet the outside right side is higher by 3/4" which also cuts into the tile by a third almost. The left side beside the wall is 3/4" lower. That side is a complete full tile. Just doesn't look right...
Because of this video I now have a nice new bath fitted... all by me! Cheers!
Another great vid, they have helped me so much, cheers. Just a question, so would you just tile around the bath on the wall or would you say best to tile the whole wall first? Also the floor, it maybe a while until I put floor tiles, is it ok to just tile up to the side panel? Thanks and sorry if my questions are basic. Cheers
Depends how good you want the finish to be.Tiling the floor first will create a better finish as the bath panels, toilet and sink will all sit on top of the tiles - creating a nice finish, as opposed to tiling after all the work which has the potential to look messy
Thanks for the reply, funny I have just started work on the bathroom, yeah that makes sense, Iâm just trying to do it so I am only without a shower for a day so Iâm gonna tile the floor before putting the basin & toilet in (as I have another toilet) but will put the bath in first and tile up to that, I just worry that by doing that I will make it different to remove the side panels if I ever get a problem. Fingers crossed. Cheers
Meant to say difficult not different :)
Bit late to the party, but how does the bath not move from the battens ? If thats just a simple couple of mil bath edge balancing on each of those 3 sides of batten, that would worry the hell out of me. How is it fixed ? I understand its not going to move down, as the batten and the bath legs are all level, but is it really just a strip of CT1 glue, holding the bath to the walls ?
Can anyone tell me is there a standard height from floor to bath lip?
I watched this to see in what order you would set the waste?
Surely if you had the option you would do this before the bath was in situ?
Hello all, I've found myself in a fairly desperate situation where I need to finish two bathroom ASAP and don't have the 5-8k to pay someone. I am beyond handy and feel comfortable and confident getting it done but I am stuck. The current bathroom that I'm working on has been gutted down to sub floor and some drywall. I bought a Mirabelle Tub that's 60X30. The tub says you need a mortar bed under it which is expected for an Acrylic tub. So, I test fit the tub and its leveled from side to side (width) but, front to back (length) itâs a much different story. Itâs out of level by more than 3/4 over 5 ft. What am I supposed to do with this? Itâs a left hand tub and the high side is opposite the drain. Should I try and allow the mortar to bring up the front to match. If you can see the pic I provided, this is a 3/4 piece of wood that when places under the front raises the tub to be almost level. I'm thinking you don't want shims that huge under a tub. Do I try and use some sort of floor leveling? Please help with expertise responses.
Thanks.
Why did you not tile under the bath ? Would love to know.
Looking forward to more videos. Will be going to your home page and going to watch every single one that you have done. You make it all look so easy. I have started to fit bathrooms after working in the city for 30 years. Steep learning curve. coming up against so many things that i'm not sure if i am doing as it should be done. I just put a bath in against a wall that was banana shape and on a floor that sloped away with a 20cm difference. Had to put in a bath panel and try and get it all to look level in the end. Tough job. Had to cut it down which wasn't easy. Also had to channel out the wall for a shower. Many of the vids I have watched especially from the states all have stud walls in which to put your pipes and have plasterboard finish or backer board. All my installations so far have been into brick walls and having to work out how to fix the tails for the shower mixer into a wall that you cant get a fixing into. No one seems to show those kind of vids. Discovered the other day what a megaflow was as well when i had to add a rad on. So many different types of water systems and installation methods for showers. Going to get me one of your T shirts. Love the videos and love your attitude to work. Wish i could find someone like you to work with.
Thanks Jamie! Good luck with the job mate, it's never easy!
I was watching this video whilst on the bog, hehe.
2:18 one time I got a splinter of fibreglass that went in about 10mm under my thumbnail đ© it was in there for about 2 weeks
Great vid, will help me fit my new bath in my new house, but one question (I may of missed it) you measured the bath panel to be 518mm...then you mentioned about allowed for tiled and adhesive in terms of height, but you measured 518mm from the floor when marking the wall to find your level lines for the batons...shouldn't of you measured more than 518mm from the floor to allow for tiles and adhesive? Or did you and I missed it sorry if I did! Shouldn't it if been like 522 or something? Cheers James đđ»
I measured from the tiles, not the wood floor, and as you saw it all came out fine!
plumberparts ahhhh ok cool cheers James
Don't forget to drill out and fit the taps if they're gonna be located at the top end of the bath otherwise you will struggle to fit them later. I use clear CT1 or 785 to seal and fix.
Bath fill on this was from the overflow on the operator side....but I agree on the normal install side of things mate!
Did you just measure the size of the area you wanted the bath and get the bath to fit?
Bro you're hilarious
Doesn't it depend if the floor was level?
Had bathroom fitted but don't think the guy fitted the bath properly. Edge closest to the showerboarded wall is moving slightly causing the sealant to come away. I'm not sure he put any battens in. How could I put a support in without removing the bath? Cut a length of 2 x 2 and try and tap it in under the bath panel?
No rubber upstand?
Is it essential to put the battens around the bath? We've had a new bathroom fitted and there aren't any battens there. There has been no issue tho.
DeeDub02 I would say not essential. The bigger the bath the more weight but the legs are the primary function. The battens make it easier to level at installation
Like the baton round the edges for levelling the bath...way easier than doing it with 4 levels
Why not fit the aqua seal to back side and taps side...
Hi, when youâre fixing the baton to the wall, isnât the wall plasterboard? Will normal screws hold without a plug/fixing?
I was wondering that, no wall plugs
@@andrewsymes249 after rewatching it, he does say go and have a cuppa to let the glue go off. I think the screws are just to hold the baton to the board until the glue sets and then the glue is what holds up bath up, not the screws themselves
And the feet take majority of the weight of course
Guys, help! What fixings/ glues would you use if mounting a bath to plasterboard walls...
find a stud and use any standard plasterboard screw. Maybe gripfill or ct1 glue
Great video James with some good tips on measuring and battening. Is there a reason your not sealing the moisture boards with Aqua seal before fitting the shower bath especially where the sparky has cut into the board? I see you prefer to use glue and sealant to fix the shower bath to the wall rather than first fitting a MX Flexi strip seal around the edge that the tiling will cover. Maybe you cover this off in a later video but just thought I'd ask. Great place to hide the shower pump, although I thought we weren't allowed plug fittings in zone 0 even with an RCD.
Cheers Johnno. Sparky said it was fine....đł
I always support the front of the bath with wood. Especially when it's got a shower screen resting on it.
What is your outro music?
some free CZcams stuff!
Whats the plug socket under the bath for?
Thats for the Aqualisa controller. All within Regywoos!
plumberparts it looks like a normal 240v socket đ
Space under bath is considered outside the zones if only accessible with tool or key. In those circumstances a socket outlet is acceptable .
MizunoIronMan under the bath is considered differently? Interesting - I did not know that! Thanks for the clarification đ
Jesus! HFFP1I'll give you the Sparkies number and you can talk about it over the phone!
Do you have to baton a bath?
when would you and when would you not use battens
Comments Corner some cheap baths donât have enough support around the edges to sit on top of baton
What! No cello[phane on the acrylic to peel back from the rim and around the overflow and plug holes? Embarrassed to admit it, but there have been a few, FEW, occasions when I have forgotten to peel it back just a wee bit before fitting waste. Silly me!
There was! And I did! Just sped up....
You may want to briefly mention this when you do the follow up vid. It's 8pm. 11th Sep. Just perused the comments 'n' no1 else has trolled thi bootay for this. If they do, send 'em oop north n I'll purrem reyt!
Oh mate please help me out here ive just fitted a bath waste and trap , no leaks apart from one coming from the over flow pipe that you push on , the flexi one, when ever there is a full bath ofg water the pressure is causing it to leak at the bottom , not huge but enough to be of concern. Ive tried sealing it with SLX and even tried clamping it up with a cable tie but im still getting a leak and its driving me crazy. Im now thinking of trying to get some rubber tube (haven't a clue what size) and using a jubilee clip. Any tips I would be extremely grateful
Use CT1 and LEAVE it for a day before you run any water in.....that should do it. Otherwise you might have a hairline crack on the plastic...
Wrap some ptfe around the male end of the overflow then push the hose over it always works a treat for me gives it a better seal
Bit late (2 year old post) but try Geocell "The Works" - expensive (c.ÂŁ8 per tube), but works like magiic!! Can be applied in the wet, seals and sticks with almost anything and retains flexibility, In bright sunshine it still works, but stays tacky to touch - but that's the only deficiency! Will sort your problem for sure!
yup, the screws are always crap and snap.
Yep!
Well, how do you remove the existing bath?? before for fitting a new one??
Make sure nobody is in the bath, turn water off at stop cock, take panel off, unscrew waste, unscrew water inlets, pull out bath and job is done đ
smash it up with a hammer best way
Why canât we have a bathtub like that in America.
Having an electrical socket underneath the bath not a brilliant idea, see video at 12:45sec
I did chuckle the way you added one nut to the leg, left it at the end then wound the second nut the whole length of the bar. why not add the first, wind it up an inch then add the second from the back?
I'm watching this because my plumber double booked :(
Gutted!
I hope you enjoy this video guys! Didn't want to show the whole job as there's a few cool things I want to show in a seperate video. This is purely about fitting the bath and fixing it to the wall! Any comments/suggestions, please comment below...
Nice vid as always. What glue did you use around the edges?
Really nice job. Most plumber I have seen just fit bath and call chippy to frame up the front and cut down a bath panel. After seeing this I see how much money and time they are wasting when they could just fit the panel perfectly themselves!!
P.S that was council contract jobs when I worked for a (dodgy?!) contractor company. Was doing an apprenticeship but the company went under and I struggled to find an apprenticeship (in wales). Now moved to Cheltenham and am looking for an apprenticeship again!
I am a plumbing work in Islamabad
Not a good idea to put the feet on to the floor tiles!
As far as I know it's still standing (bit like Elton John!) *Don't miss this week's live stream* bang the notification bell too! czcams.com/video/TRJJjTkdENw/video.html
