Just because he was a good coach in the minors don’t mean it will work at the NHL level.
Check out Blashill in Detroit to back up your statement on this. Blashill has failed miserably with the Wings as they got worse every single season.
Willie Desjardins and Travis Green to an extent are under fire in Vancouver for being not so good coaches. Both were rookie coaches when brought into Vancouver that came from the AHL.

In Detroit, Blashill, also with zero NHL experience, bowed down to the vets on the Wings and blamed the young players he previously coached in the minors for the team's failures.
Everything that is said about Keefe has been said about Blashill, word for word. Hopefully Keefe will have better results.

I have to say I agree with sid’s last point. What’s being overlooked here is not realizing when a good coach with a good team has likely just hit their ceiling. Babcock should have been fired after last season. Why? The same reason the raptors fired Dwane Casey after coming off a franchise-best regular season yet flunking in the playoffs at a similar stage. Once players develop to their relative caliber, it becomes a matter of player management. Sure, some of these players are overpaid, but that’s not to say their talent has been utilized optimally. Clearly under Babcock, his philosophy began to conflict with setting a system that could guide this team to reach their potential output. So Sid’s right. Babs should have been gone after last years playoffs

@@averytatavitto9333 I agree with your statement except for the timeline. I think if they continue the way they are right now; Dubas' seat will starting getting uncomfortably warm in January. Dubas still has work to do, he needs to figure out a trade to free up some space for a couple of defense men who can play defense and a backup goaltender.
Maybe the Leafs are not as good as they think they are, maybe this is who they are, a middle of the road team, with over paid players and a poor defensive core.

Name three player's the were able to embrace for the Toronto Maple Leafs the way the expectations was required? Darryl Settler, Matt Sunden, Wendel Clark. Throw in Boris Salming and Dave Keon. That's all you need to know. They didn't need other players around them to make them great.

There are at least half a dozen guys with NHL experience and NHL success who are available. Darryl Sutter, Dave Quinn and Dan Bylsma to name a few. Leafs are expecting the new guy to make a playoff run with this team. Despite having no NHL experience. They are asking nearly the impossible.

I really don't see how this is going to solve anything. The Leafs have some great young talent which i thought they would use as bait to trade for players to fill in the missing pieces. So were going with a new coach and were waiting for the NHL to change. This team hasn't looked the same with Marner out of the lineup. I think the Leafs made a mistake and are using Babcock as an excuse.

Way too many times not paying attention to the opponent's positions;
Way too games our defense not checking and making things happen;
Way too games our offensive players was wasted because of dumball plays.
Last night, two bad penalties that lead to goals.
Barrie gave the puck away like he was being paid to, Cece the other night

this season was because of the players mistakes and that's not a system thing,
no system says, "Giveaways are good, penalties against are good, ignoring the
opposition's players and puck watching is good, running back and forth like a

ABOUT TIME! Babcock did not put defense first, did not worry about tough play. He under utilized Connor Brown, and Matt Martin among other players who had a physical presence. Our goalies have been run at, our defense does not know how to play defense first at all, nor do our forwards. Sure we can score at times, but when we cough it up on a regular basis that is not a recipe for success. I hope Doofus starts getting us better defenders. I still think Hunter would have been a better GM. Barrie is not a good defender, nor are others on the blue line, hopefully the new coach will get more out of them...

@@writingmaster3008 Leafs have the second worst GA in the NHL right now. Even St. Louis at their worst last season was middle of the road in GA and only improved. It's very rare for a team to make the playoffs with a negative Goal Differential and Dubas has not built a shutdown D-core needed to succeed.

I fear Kyle Dubas' has bet too heavily on skill and offence in his belief the NHL would morph itself into something resembling a non- contact rec league. Never gonna happen. At the end of the day you've assembled a one dimensional team regardless of how talented you are.
Skill and offence is how you win Cup in todays nhl. I think St. Louis was a major exception. The Kadri for Barrie trade was terrible, they needed another shutdown defenseman not more offense. Plus they traded for Ceci who is terrible.
