      Babcock had that team working. They would play or they wouldn't get ice time and they would get called out! It might seem to some like he was hard on them but he was just a father looking to take his kids to the cup. When they were winning they like him, when they were losing they didnt like him. Babcock brought accountability!
      When you fire such a person of leadership and cridisze him and piss all over him to hire an AHL coach you will obviously change the personality of the team. This is exactly what Dubis has done. Dubis and Babcock did not agree on things and Dubis should have worked with Babcock and maybe learned a thing or two about the NHL.
      Instead he did the opposite of what Babcock wanted causing a bad relationship.
      Now here we are with a team thats mediocre and has no heart. To top it off Dubis is making silly little deals while this team falls apart.
      I guess this is what you can expect when you hire a very young GM and let him run the show.

Riley out, then Muzzin out, then Ceci out, then Muzzin back in, bringing up Sandin and Liligren (less than 30 combined NHL games). Any given time in the last 2 months Leafs have has 2-3 of their 6 D men out or on IR. Then everything rest on Barrie and Holl as the more experienced, and we all know how Barrie has been this year. Hard to judge the defense of a team that hasn't really been healthy or consistent.

    I feel like the conversation of leafs salaries is hard to listen to, because in the off-season that's what you talk about. When it comes to the season, you shouldn't give a damn who's making what, you have to come together as a group and want to win. For example, Tanev on Pittsburgh got a 6 year 3.5mil ish per year contract in the summer. Pens fans went crazy because he wasn't good and he won't put up points. But this year, he has been one of the hardest working guys on the team and has been playing great. A big reason why the pens are winning. So when I look at the pens team, I see some guys who are underpaid, and some guys who are overpaid, but every single player on the team has bought into the system and is willing to put in the work in order to have success. With the leafs team, I dont see any player who is willing to sacrifice themselves for the better of the team. And when you put these two teams against each other in crunch time, you'll get a result like last night.

    There is no excuse for how bad the Leafs have been defensively because of 3 words. THE WINNIPEG JETS
    At the beginning of the season, everyone was writing off the Jets due to the losses on defense. No one could blame them when they lose Trouba, Myers, Chiarot and Buff. No one would argue that the Leafs had a better D core than the Jets to start the season.
    To start the season, The Jets defense consisted of: Anthony Bitetto, Tucker Poolman, Neal Pionk, Dmitry Kulikov, Ville Heinola, Josh Morrissey and Carl Dahlstrom. Then something happened, By Dec. 10, the Jets were 19-10-2 with a D core that consisted of: Anthony Bitetto,Tucker Poolman, Neal Pionk, Luca Sbisa, Josh Morrissey and Nathan Beaulieu. Why did the Jets start winning? 2 reasons:
    1) Hellebuyck got back to his Vezina form. Anderson has been playing great too, so those cancel each other out.
    2) The Jets forwards bought into Maurice's defensive scheme. The top lines are helping out the D. Even Laine is back checking! You take away their injuries and they are giving Colorado a run for 3rd or better.
    This is where the Leafs lack. Either Babcock or Keefe didn't/aren't instilling a defensive scheme to help the D, or the top forwards don't want to buy into that system. They look like they are playing shinny out there most nights instead of playing responsible hockey. The 2019 - 2020 Winnipeg Jets are a tested example that a defensively lacking team can still be competitive IF EVERYONE BUYS IN!!!

The defence is nowheres where Sheldon Keefe wants it to be and Kyle for all we know could be fired just because this new player they got played with Matthews..
    Really that's siriusly a joke Keefe is probably shaking his head right thinking what was Kyle and Shanahan thinking? Another forward and I am a huge leafs fan and I dont think it's a good idea for the Leafs to go to the playoffs this year unless somehow theres miracle on the way where the leafs go to the finals and win the cup which that wont happen this year and that's not a bad thing if they dont go to the playoffs this year because maybe next year this team is gonna look a whole lot different next and I mean alot different

    As i said it when Keefe took over, the Leafs are officially a NHL farm team. Leafs have off ice chemistry problems and on ice chemistry problems. Andersen isn't himself never was as great as Tampa and Bostons goalies. Defence has always been a problem, JT isn't was he was when with the NYI's. Nobody hits, the power play is suffering. Marner is great but he's 6' 175 lbs, Matthews is playing well, well . . . Babcock was right, he knew what had to be done to make the Leafs win. Basic fundamentals needed to be established and we are now seeing it first hand. The Leafs have been on a down slide and i think they will miss the playoffs. I hope i'm wrong ! Keefe puts out JT Matthews Marner 30 million on the ice and they can't get it done. Leafs have a problem from top to bottom. This team isn't what the media made it out to be. The huge contracts destroyed the chemistry, it's a team sport. Grinders win games and the Leafs have overpaid superstars. Trades need to made in the off season because the Leafs do not have a contender. NHL is a contact sport and fans pay good money to see the big hits and yes the fights. Go Leafs Go !

    I'm not sure if they eventually get there because I'm not watching the second half but; after 10 minutes of a video titled "Trying to solve the Puzzle that is the Toronto Maple Leafs" they haven't even attempted to diagnose a problem or present a solution.. there were lots of sound effects and pointless posturing but NO hockey analysis.
    The Leafs aren't a puzzle they are more like a pop-up book; very easy to read. The Leafs problem is that they were constructed with a significant flaw that is now impossible to fix. They spent all of their money on offense and play a style of hockey that results in them giving up the 7th most shots against per game. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that if you give up a lot of shots and have a lack of talent of defense your are going to give up far too many goals to ever produce consistent results in the regular season or post season regardless of how many 40 goal scorers you have. The Tavares money should have been spent on two significant pieces for two significant pieces on the back end.

      @kakarotblake Před 4 lety

      @@cousinpatsey2471 I can almost guarantee though Lou wouldn't have gave out those insane contracts.
      Sure Dubas added Barrie and Cici but Barrie is an extremely offensive defenseman and was known not to be the strongest in his own zone. Why the hell do you need that when the offense is already so strong on this team and in there iown zone is were the problems are. Not only that but Kadri was the one who was traded to get him, who's exactly the type of player the Leafs need. And to top it all off Barries turning out to be a flop while Kadri was having a great season up until he got injured.
      And Cici. Dont even get me started on Cici. All Dudas did with that trade is replace a bad defenseman with a brutal contract for an even worse defenseman with an equally as bad cap hit.
      Both trades didnt exactly make much sense

    • @cousinpatsey2471
      @cousinpatsey2471 Před 4 lety

      @@kakarotblake For as much as everyone loves to say "Kadri is great! He's what the Leafs needed!", you'd think everyone would remember how often Kadri got himself in penalty and suspension trouble for his dumbass hits. Grit is great when it's actually on the ice; there's a good argument he cost them on of the series against the Bruins when he got suspended for a needless hit.
      Barrie was brought in because he fit the style: passes well, can run a powerplay, gets up ice fast. Cici, well, idk what they saw in him. They knew it unlocked a contract after this season though (which the other one wouldn't have). And, again, that doesn't dispute the point: They did make an effort to change the defense. It might not have worked out as they had hoped it would but you can't say they didn't do anything about it. The fact is defense isn't something that's only done by defensemen, it's a full five man effort, which is something Babcock couldn't get them to do (and Keefe is only sporadically getting them to do). Look at the Penguins: defense doesn't look spectacular, but it plays like it most nights.
      And remember: Lou made the Kovalchuck contract. His deals wouldn't have been much better if at all.

    The Leafs have been embarrassed by Florida in all of their match-ups this season, and they simply can not afford to lose to them next Thursday. I believe their playoff hopes are already slim-to-none, but a loss against the Panthers on Thursday will definitely put the final nail in the coffin. This Leafs team is not capable of playing the consistently solid hockey it would take to charge up the standings and re-claim a playoff spot if they once again fail to show up against a team like Florida that is already edging them out in a race for the postseason.
