      totally agreed, I have been a goalie for 19 years and the fact that they are saying that he is doomed is ridiculous... the fact that this guy kept his head up the entire time he was out there and fought through it was the toughest part of the whole thing. Goaltending is 80 percent mental in these situations if you have even a little experience practicing at these levels.

However, he's only regional, so I can look past that, and just laugh at the stupid shit.

      @BB-dt3xl Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@mdb1010 I'm glad you said you're just getting into hockey. I get what you're saying.
      In short, yes, this is a big deal. In the grand scheme, they could've "dropped the game," so to speak. That's irrelevant. What's cool is watching someone - a zamboni driver for the opposing minor league team - get his one chance and rock it. That's what's fun here.

    • @nicholasbenge9497
      @nicholasbenge9497 Před 5 měsíci

      @@mdb1010no, but it was a critical game in the playoff race. The NHL requires all teams have an emergency goaltender list. It’s usually a college kid or an employee of the team with experience. If they aren’t employees, they are provided regular season tickets. If one of the teams has a goalie get injured and they cannot get their own replacement into the arena in time, they are required to suit up.
      David Ayres is one of the Zamboni drivers for the Leafs, mainly for the Marlies (the AHL affiliate). The Canes primary goaltender was injured in the first period. So, the Leafs made Ayres available to the Canes. Then, the backup got hurt in that collision at the start of the video. This forced David Ayres to play in a NHL game. He had the full third period plus the balance of the second period of play to survive (~28 minutes of hockey). He only let in two goals and was credited with the win, making him the only emergency goalie to be credited with a win.

He played 8 years, won 4 Rings, including 3 in a row ( 62 - 64 ) and his last in 1967 at the age of 43 ( It might have been 42 or 44, I'm doing this from memory ) With Terry Sawchuck as the team's second goalie, and he was over 40 also. The second goal was definitely one that every goalie has given up in his career. Tough shot, can't control the rebound and your D doesn´t clean it up and the forward gets an easy tap in.
