That’s what I’m saying, he saved 32 shots but still got scored on 13 times, that’s his teas fault at that point
Once the EBUG comes in, the first priority on defense is denying shots on goal.

Ive said it and Ive will always repeat myself (coming from an habs fan) Toronto has the best fanbase around and its a tragedy this team takes insane hit over and over and over....
I couldnt fuckin believe it when Murray got hurt at the beginning of the season... At this point it aint funny anymore and even as a Montreal fan, I truly seek for this team to succeed, they deserve it.

To be fair, the dude is an employee of the farm team and a regular fill-in goalie at Leafs practice (and has been for a few years prior to this). He wasn't completely clueless to what he was getting into....

This is unreal. First Ayres was spelled wrong on the jersey. They fixed it and played the game, with Marlies gear, and ended up winning for the Canes :D

Tell you what I watched the game recently where Ayres came in and he was very impressed. One of the two goals was a goal on every goaltender in the league and the other was a deflection. He made a number of good saves, didn't allow rebound opportunities, and was otherwise very much up to the challenge.
That second goal would have been a tough save even for an elite goaltender.

Yes. Since he was in goal for the winning goal he get the recorded win.
He is also the oldest goalie to win in their debut game.

@@satoTM The Blackhawks already scored the winning goal before he Foster came into play. he preserved the win. Did not actually get the win. That goes to the goalie who was in net when the winning goal was scored. Foster wasn't.If I am incorrect then so be it.
They even had his name spelled wrong on back of his jersey. They fixed it between periods.

With Ayres, it was probably a bit of fate. He was on the bench in a game for the Charlotte Checkers, the Hurricanes AHL team. Then, he goes into a game for the 'Canes.

I know this comment is 2 years old, but Ayres was actually credited with the Win. The Hurricanes were up 3-1 against the Leafs and went to 4-1 after Ayres went in. Ayres let in 2 goals which would mean that the Game Winning Goal was scored while he was on the ice. That didn't happen with Foster.

Ayers is why you never give up on your dream, he staying ed shape enough to get the job as emergency goalie and showed that he was the right man for the job even if it took injuries to do it

An old friend of mine, in the Fort Wayne Komets organization of the IHL at the time, was their equipment manager Joe Franke, also 42. He was the backup emergency goaltender. In 2002 the regular goalie was injured and Joe had to go in, in the 2nd period. He allowed two goals in regulation, and the game went into overtime and then a shootout. He ended up stopping a couple of hard shots in the shootout and ended up winning the game. He will forever be known in Fort Wayne as "1-0 Joe". I love my hometown team cuz they're in the echl so whenever one guy gets injured or called up the night before a game or injured during playoffs, the goalie coach of the blades that doubles as my goalie coach goes in. It actually benefits the team most of the time because he has won the Calder and was echl goalie of the year the year before he retired

People criticize the leafs for losing this game, but if you actually watched the game you would see that any team would have lost this game. Carolina played the best defence of their lives, and any mistake they made was capitalized upon instantly by a goal. The leafs were held to like ten shots for the rest of the game, many of them scrappy low danger chances. The leafs got out coached out skated and overall just outplayed by this team. Ayres didn’t win this game for them himself, the hurricanes insane defence did.

I mean, the most recent video, the Ayres guy, I'm sad that is because both Reimer and Mrazek got hurt for Hurricanes, as I also know James Reimer from when he played for the ECHL team I follow, as well as how I know Tim Branham, I AM SUPER HAPPY! AM SOARING!!!!
