    Great review of the new version of my 2016 Charger GX--mine being the shinny CURRY! I'm still battling with whether or not I like the new design, especially the frame integrated batteries. I'm not a fan of proprietary parts that dictate design. I guess, if you have no choice, Bosch is not a bad partner and R&M seems to integrate things pretty well, although it's all still a bit bulky IMHO. My GX and its Bosch system have been flawless for 9000km, so there's that.
    Glad to see you've got a channel, Chris. Hope you enjoyed visiting Germania!!!

      Thanks Tom, great to see you in here and I hope you enjoyed our videos. We’re just getting started so any feedback is very much encouraged.
      I remember talking about your Charger GX, the trend is definitely going towards more integration, but I can definitely understand your perspective. The Supercharger2 does look really slick in person though.
      I’m also with you on the proprietary design, but if you’re going to go with a proprietary system Bosch makes a lot of sense. I don’t see them going anywhere anytime soon and they do seem to do their best to make things backwards compatible, although there was a slight seemingly unavoidable departure from this recently with Gen 4 and the 625Wh powertube. Hopefully there isn’t too much of that going forward.
      I always enjoy visiting Germany and I’ve been fortunate to have visited many times this year. I don’t usually make it much further north than Frankfurt lately, but I’ll have to look you up if I do.

    Hi Chris. I don't know if it is the right place but I think that a very useful video provided by you could be talking about how to correctly remove and replace the rear wheel of a modern e-bike like a Riese and Muller one with a belt and a Rohloff transmission. These bikes are unusual and becoming very sophisticated and one (like me or somebody else) can be affraid in case of changing a tire for example. which steps are mandatory. A discussion about how to correctly setup the belt tension after mounting the wheel would be very interesting. The official R&M documentation provided with a new bike does not explain these operations despite they should be reachable for the average user. Best regards. Sid

    I own a 2018 Supercharger and I'm not convinced some of the updates are really worth it (my opinion). The new motor has a larger chain ring which drops the BB height and that means you're more likely to smash it on something due to less clearance unless of course the chain ring is the same size as the old motor and clearance has NOT changed. The new battery covers being attached mean that you can't remove the battery without having a large hole in the frame.
    Great review though Chris!

    • @Propelbikes
      @Propelbikes  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks for your comments! Great feedback. I hope you have been enjoying your Supercharger, it’s been one of our most popular models.
      The new configuration of the motor does raise the BB a little but the larger chainring does have a bit less clearance in comparison. For the batteries, R&M is planning to offer a dummy option for those who want to run with just one battery.
      I hope you’ll stay tuned for future reviews and videos. Let me know if you have any special requests :)

    If you can not get hold of the Supercharger 2 look at secondhand Super charger Ist generation. We got one each in Nov 2017 and the bikes are great. Battery life is excellent and the battery discharge over the last two winters has been very low. We got the Gates belt drive because in our part of East Lancs England ( Pendle Hill country ) we have hills and plenty of them. The Gates belt drive allows no loss of speed on the hills as well as low maintenance. One last point get Sena Helmets that have blue toothed and allow a half mile range to communicate with fellow cyclists as well as linking up with your phone

    Great job Chris! The review is excellent. I was considering the 2019 Haibike Trekking S 9.0. But now that the Gen 4 Bosch speed motors offer 75nm of Torque I may have to hold off. I really like the bike you reviewed with the dual battery setup. I weigh about 275lbs and it seems this bike would handle my weight plus touring bags. Is it rated for a certain max? Did they upgrade the font rack capacity like the rear one? The price is steep but it seems like an awesome bike. I do prefer the blue or a red compared to the Curry or Silver though. I hope to test drive one at your NYC location.

      Hi Chris,
      I hope that you are fine. Do you have any news concerning the rubber covers that R&M was planning to sold in order to be able to protect the bike when the battery (powertube) is removed from the 2020 line ebikes ? Is it yet possible to order such covers ? I am convinced that the decision to do so on the powertubes of the new line ebikes is a huge design mistake. I mean, with this system, it is impossible for the customer to buy a new battery from anywhere, beause of the mounted cover. It is mandatory to order it from R&M. I have experienced that with my Supercharger 2 which has been delivered to me with one faulty battery. It was really a big mess to get a new one. After receiving a new powertube directly from Bosch, my dealer was not able to remove the rubber cover in order to install it on the new battery. He was obliged to give me another battery that he took from another new Supercharger 2 which was exposed in the shop.
      I need two of these rubber covers (or similar) for the bike transportation using my car during the summer holidays. For Bosch, it is mandatory to remove the batteries during the transportation by car. In addition my Thule holder states that the maximum weight par bike is 24 kgs.
      I think that it would be something useful for every R&M 2020 bike user if you can give your opinion and/or solutions in your CZcams channel.
      Best regards. Sid

    I wanna know , how long can I ride on each setting , what its like on climbs , how much do I need to put in in a commute. Could I just slowly peddle and get max speed. What is the max speed? Don't tell me about forks and rotors , been riding MTB's since 1990 with my Kona Lava Dome. Ps ive never ridden electric and have not one clue how it feels, but I really want to know

    • @Propelbikes
      @Propelbikes  Před 4 lety

      The bike will tell you how far you can ride in each setting based on your riding, but as a general rule I say 20 miles on the max assist and 60 miles on the lower levels with one 500Wh battery, this one has two so you can double that. You can slowly pedal at the top assist level and get to 20mph, but for the HS (High Speed) 28mph version you might need to work a bit more for it. This bike is available with a CX motor with a 20mph top speed and a HS motor with a 28mph top speed. This website is good for calculating your range: www.bosch-ebike.com/us/service/range-assistant/
      The motor feels like you are stronger than you are or that you have a strong tailwind. You can climb pretty much any hill with ease.

    • @rsparker922
      @rsparker922 Před 4 lety

      "Slowly peddle and get max speed"? How would that work? I have the previous Supercharger (in metallic blue) and I've cruised up the steepest road in the world and had to use third gear. So, I can't imagine ever needing first or second gear unless I was loaded down with luggage. I always whack mine into Turbo and usually get about 80km out of a single charge. I've ridden on flat roads and used Tour mode as much as possible and got over 100km and still had battery left.

    I've been looking at e-bikes sold in US. the prices, voltages, amperages, top speed and ranges are all over the map. Why should I pay $6000 from a 250 watt e-bike? How crap are the Chinese bikes? Where's the performance/price sweetspot?

    • @Propelbikes
      @Propelbikes  Před 4 lety +5

      Scott you have a great point. I think it really comes down to the overall ride experience, reliability, comfort and safety. I wouldn’t focus too much on the motor wattage, torque is the more important factor, but at a certain point you are just adding weight for power you won’t need. If you ride a bike like this I think you would be convinced very quickly that it’s worth it.
      Many companies try to sell customer on vanity specs like 750 Watts or 1000 Watts, many of which are not real measurements. Watts can also be considered akin to fuel efficiency, it doesn’t always translate to power since much of it can be lost in it’s transfer. Keep in mind the power listed is also the nominal power, the peak power is over 850 Watts on this motor.
      Torque is usually a better measurement of power potential, for the motor on this bike it’s 75Nm which is pretty significant, especially when efficiently transferred to a bikes drivetrain.
      To answer your question more directly I think this is the performance sweet spot. I have largely bet and built my business on it. For me this is the pinnacle of quality and performance. The one step further is to add full suspension like the Delite or Superdelite. I’m not sure where you’re located but I would highly recommend trying one out. I think you’ll understand very quickly. We have shops in LA and NY if you’re ever in the area.
