Lived in Lawton 43 years ago. My husband was stationed at Ft. Sills, and I was a substitute teacher, for Lawton public Schools. I am so happy to see how much Lawton has grown over the years. We were members of St. Johns Baptist Church❤❤.
Lawton Native here: Don’t plan on moving here unless you want to retire and or enjoy the convenience of a small town. Crime rate is only bad if you in the streets and not minding your own business. Police here is cool, not at all trigger happy. There are less than reputable neighborhoods but there is an equalizer of that in really good neighborhoods too. Lawton is cool, not too busy, not too dead.

You displayed great locations, I’ll give you that brotha. If you do another video, walk through locations on the south side. Obesity is high here unless they are in the military. Fast food restaurants everywhere, same six. Cost of living is amazing, but it’s bad when I throw trash away and someone inside the dumpster says “hey cmon man, you didn’t see me in here?!” Crime and homeless is outrageous , lack of employment opportunities for civilians . Gun shots at 1am and porch pirates on the regular. The army and Goodyear is the cash cow, so if you join the army then this place is right up your alley especially towards the end of your career. Great video! There are pros and cons to every city and that’s just life 💯I’m just keeping it 💯

Speaking from experience I used to live in Lawton Eisenhower class of 2013 baby it's was fun and a lot better than New Mexico
The crime here is unbelievable, then there's the lack of job opportunities other than retail and fast food, people here have a transient attitude because everyone is just waiting on moving, there are a lot of fast food restaurants, food here is very mediocre, Lawton relies heavily on Fort Sill, there are a lot of store closings, a lot of homeless people, the weather is unbearable; its hot or cold no other seasons. There isn't anything to do here expect go to the occasional festivals and movies and if you are into it, hikes. I really don't see why anyone would stop here in Lawton they should just keep on driving down to Texas or keep on driving up to OKC. Lawton has absolutely nothing to offer.

I was wondering about the crime rate. I went to my sons boot camp grad in 2010 we went to the mall and Olive Garden a walk it was all great, so hearing high crime surprised me.
This. All this. I lived there for a few years, and it was the worst. When lived there barely anyone accepted cards as payment..it was behind in a lot of ways. And my son's school held a spelling bee where a child spelled July with a G and they advanced her to the next round lol. It was rough

@@missionaries7575I lived in Lawton there was hardly any crime or homeless people from what I can remember. I'm pretty sure where I live have way more crime and homeless people then Lawton. I live close to jacksonville and there's always something on the news about crime. I recently went back to Lawton this year after not living there since I was an 11 year old kid in the mid 90's. As I was staying there I was thinking this would be a good place to retire don't seem to have alot of drama like Florida. Seemed pretty peaceful. Not sure what it's like in the other cites. We hardly left Lawton when we lived there. Every once in awhile we did.
I lived in Lawton from about 1956 when I was 2 till 1975 when I got married and moved to Colorado Springs, CO for 3 years (husband stationed at Ft Sill, then Ft Carson). Moved from CO to Vancouver, WA and have lived here since (husband born and raised here). I graduated from Lawton High in 1972. I barely remember the first place we lived, in a duplex on a street I think was called Ozmond, right outside the base. Then we lived on the base for about 3 years then moved to a house on D St, then SW 14th street and the last house was on NW 14th St. We went back to sell that house after my Dad passed. Seeing your videos makes me feel some sort of way, homesick, but realizing how much has changed. I loved it there, it was all I knew till young adulthood, but I do NOT miss the weather. To this day, I'm scared of lightning. Watching your videos is bringing back many memories of places that are no longer there like DOE DOE park, Gibsons, Woolworths, etc. Thank you for telling people about my hometown.

Your 30 years older then me I see. MY family moved to Lawton when I was 7 in 1992 until I was 11 in 1996. Did enjoy living there. Recently visit this year. Wanted to see my childhood homes but could remember thE addresses for 3/4 the houses I lived in. The one address I did remember was on a military base so visiting wasn't an option for me. Thought about doing unbereats I. Lawton just to see if it would take me to a familiar address and trigger something.
The duplexes on ozmond are hanging in there but could use work. D and 12th are rough the homeless shelter is around there so it’s sketchier than most areas but it’s a real mixed bag on the neighborhood safety

Stores not here / very limited things to do especially when u start working and u no longer in school around classmates

Christmas parade was crazy with all the candy. Definitely the most candy we ever received at a Xmas parade and was magical.
Those are the new home. The out skirts Show the real Lawton the inner city
Nobody wants to see poverty. We got that on point.
The further you go down Deyo mission road there are different phases. But remote work and retirement will definitely help the economy
More jobs will help Lawton grow

I used to live in Lawton as a kid and actually liked it. I visit this year after not living there since I was 11. I do realize that I liked driving in Oklahoma more then I like driving in Florida where I currently live. I didn't have to fight traffic much. Did like the visit. Seem more peaceful then where I live with less drama. I could see myself moving here after I retire. I imagine there's not nearly as much crime in Lawton as there is in Jacksonville.I don't live in Jacksonville but live near it and have to drive there for work. Had someone try to fight me while I was on the job. How is the crime in Lawton? Is it really low?

But crime rate maybe subjective.

@@LivingInLawton I'll check it out later. I don't recall Lawton really having much crime back in the 90's. Only crime I can think of in Oklahoma was that bombing that happened and that was on Oklahoma city. Was in the 4th grade when it happened.

I live in east Lawton and it’s so rare to hear sirens that when we do to the windows we go or outside if the sound is getting really close. But we can only hear sirens because we’re close to Gore and the fire station for the east side. I walk with my 2 year old great grandson at pm and I’m not worried about our safety.

Well I’m planning on moving to Lawton around April 2024 my son is a gym owner Gramz Fitness and once military but I say this I visit often and I love the peace there coming from New Jersey and now Columbia sc the air is even different. I’m looking forward for the change.

Stationed at Ft Sill OK as a Drill Sergeant back in the mid 80’s lived there for six years. Still have friends and family there and their opinions of Lawton is not so praising. Pro and Cons everywhere you go, however, they say it’s more cons than it is pros. Remember, Lawton is a Military Town and the revenue is basically base on the military and Goodyear tire company. You are showing area that fat pockets people live in; understand why😉
One person experience is not another person's experience I guess I've been blessed to have a good experience out here in this sEason lawton is good for me and I share what I deal with and don't like and adjust to out in lawton. Maybe the videos are my perspective of lawton

Renalds Army hospital? Two of my kids were born in Lawton (1980--82). Moved to DFW in 88 and never looked back.
