Aunt Jackie's Don't Shrink Gel | Demo + Review

- COUSINNN! Today I'm coming to you guys with the requested demo and review of the Aunt Jackie's Don't Shrink Elongating Curl Gel.
Check below for the products I used for this wash day, and then scroll a little further for more suggestions on what to pair with this product.
Cleanser: TreSemme Perfectly Un-Done (Co-Wash)
Deep Conditioner: Genedor Beauty Deep Conditioner
Styler: Aunt Jackie's Don't Shrink Gel
NOTE: I did not use a leave-in on this day because I wanted to see how this product did on my naked hair since I felt the product was extremely moisturizing to my hair on it's own. I have used this product numerous times (this is actually a REPURCHASE at this point using the product in this video) so here are the products I've paired it with in the past and had great results/no flaking.
- Shea Moisture Low Porosity Leave-in Detangler
- Paul Mitchell "The Conditioner" (Sally's Generic Brand)
- Simply Shea $1 Leave-in Conditioner (be very light handed with this product when pairing, I didn't have flaking but it's white and I can see how flaking COULD occur if too much is used)
Dry Time: ~ 1 1/2 hours (15-30 mins air dry, 45 mins hooded dryer, ~15mins blow drying roots)
Overall I give this product an A+. I have not one complaint about this product.

This is BY FAR my fav gel! After trying soooooo many gels my 7 years of being natural this one is THEEEE BEST. It's been hard finding a gel that will define my fine, dense, 4b strands. And I found that it works great by itself BUT works even better with the Aunt Jackie's Quench Leave in on soaking wet hair (Anthony Dickey Method). And after I layer those I put the Beautiful Textures Curl Defining Custard on top. Use the plopping method MohaganyCurls shows and my hair is dry in about an hour. I do this (rinse product out. Cowash with Tresemme Flawless Curls + Aussie Moist 3 min deeeep conditioner then restyle) every 2 or 3 days and my hair is THRIVING. Process only takes about 20-25 mins + drying time. Every 3rd time I will do a bentonite clay wash, use the same deep condition process in the shower, style, and go.

Hi. O have just got this gel and wondering if you applied it liberally or using just enough? I've never tried Beautiful Curls so may check it out at some point. I usually use a LI and seal with oil. Do you think I need the oil if adding the gel 9r doesn't it matter?

I have used this gel about 10 times trying to get it right. For me, I give it about a 5. First day- great, by the end of the the second day, hair is dry. I believe it is the protein (gel) and glycerin (SM leave-in) together. I still think this is a quality gel- light weight, no flaking, great hold without hard crunch, light scent. Definitely worth a try.

I'm on my second jar of this gel and you really do need to use less the more you use it. It just makes my hair have more definition even after I wash it out and is very moisturizing. I never use a leave in underneath it either.

This is the only gel I've used that gives me great wash and go. I do put shea moisture cream under it first for moisture. I actually used the entire jar which is something I rarely do.
Revisiting some old videos...trying to find a gel that will work for me and a wash and go..

I used this with cantu coconut curling cream & cantu leave in with argan oil for extra moisture and had great results its not elongating unless you use less product but who uses less 🤔. It was my first wash m go success

I I used Aunt Jackie's early on in my natural hair journey and I'm just shocked she's blowing up but I used to buy it out of Family Dollar and it was like the cheapest one out of the bunch I'm just shocked at how pricey it is now but I will have to go get them a try it's been a couple years.
It's still pretty affordable where I am. I got the huge jar for $7. But I do remember about 4 years ago when I first tried one of her products like you said it being in like a Dollar General, it still is... but it's a little more expensive.
I used this product also. I like the way it smells. my hair likes it also. This is a great product.

Hey cuzzin! A shout out from Chicago. I like Aunt Jackie's Flaxseed Gel. It's lighter than a lot of gels I've tried and I've mixed it with different leave-in conditioners and I didn't get flakes.

I have curly hair and I use Shea Moisture shampoo for curly hair, Carroll's daughter almond milk, she moisture curl defining gel, leave in conditioner, and Cantu curl defining custard. I'm going to order this product and see if it can do the work of all three. I'm going to keep the same shampoo regimen but go with the Aunt Jackie to see if it works out for me. I'm not a huge fan of crunchy hair but this style works great for you! Thanks for the review!
Try sleeping with a spandex dread cap it's stretches my wash n gos and cut out the bottom so you can put it on like a headband.
I used to do that all the time, it's ok and still do from time to time but it dries my hair out and makes it flatter than my satin cap does. I like the full look I get from my satin cap. Thanks though!

I do my typically twice a week, if I have time. Sometimes only once.

I've tried this product with aunt jackie's curl lala & the leave in & then a week ago with just the leave in & the gel & both times my hair was dry as HELL. I may give it one more shot with one of the conditioners you suggested, but after that I'm calling it quits.

I tried the detangler years and years ago and it didn't wow me, but that's about all I've tried from this line. I may revisit it though because my local beauty supply has the large sizes at a very reasonable cost.

How often do you wash your hair and whats the longest you'll go without washing? Thank you for the video!!
How often I wash just depends on how much time I have that week. The longest I'll go (if I'm not protective styling) is 7 days. When I have time I usually don't go any more than 4 without at least co-washing.
You should try the homemade flaxseed gel and see how that goes 🤔 i want to see someone i trust try it out

Hi girl! I've been making and using Flaxseed gel for about 3-4 months. Inexpensive and very cost effective. Love that it has crazy slip, is 100% all natural and doesn't flake my hair up. I however use very little for braidouts, flat twist outs and to slay my edges. Works fabulously!

It leaves my hair SUPER dry even when I add a leave-in. It even started breaking off my hair. It was times I pulled on a strand and it slipped right off. Never again

I was about to by this product until I read the ingredients and it contains sodium hydroxide (lye) which is found in relaxers ....please read and research the ingredients in you hair products ....curly girls don’t damage your luscious locks
im glad that you research ingredients. If you are familiar with my channel then you know I preach this often. That being said, it’s also important to understand HOW certain ingredients work and that they can be formulated many different ways. A simple good search will let you know they sodium hydroxide is found in MANY things. Such as soaps, detergents and even drinking water. It can me broken down into many different forms for many different uses. I don’t work for Aunt Jackie’s and this video was not sponsored so by all means don’t buy anything that you don’t want to. But it’s important to know the FULL story before you go preaching to folks and essentially claiming a company is putting RELAXER in a product.
