- John Barnes joined Watford at the age of 17 in 1981 and over the next six years made 296 appearances for the club, scoring 85 goals.John Barnes made his debut for England in 1983 and four years later joined Liverpool for £900,000. By the time of his last appearance for England in 1995 he had been capped 79 times-then a record for a black player. After two years with Newcastle United.John Barnes ended his playing career at Charlton Athletic in 1999.John Barnes moved to Scotland to become head coach of Celtic in 1999 with his former Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish as director of football. This was not successful and Barnes was sacked in 2000. Since then Barnes has managed the Jamaica national team in 2008-09 and the English club Tranmere Rovers for four months in 2009.
During his playing career John Barnes was named the PFA Players' Player of the Year twice (in 1987-88 and 1989-90) and the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year once (in 1987-88). In the run-up to England's 1990 FIFA World Cup campaign, John Barnes did the famous rap for the official England song with New Order and Keith Allen for the number 1 smash hit World in Motion. In 2005 he was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame. - Sport
This man is the MAIN reason I support and love Liverpool to this day. His talent was immense, such a shame we were banned from European football when we signed him.

My idol growing up. He had everything. The Lionel Messi of his era. Legend. Damm I miss those days.
One of the most gifted footballers ever!
A fine footballer, highly intelligent and well educated. Why isn't he a head coach somewhere?
ONE of the best ever what an absolute legend
Barnes was way ahead of his time wonderful player
Indeed John Charles Barnes was the catalyst &spearhead of the brilliant Liverpool fc side built by Sir King Kenny from the 1987/88 season. He was such a brilliantly gifted player who oozed such class, humility, civility, finesse, elegance & many dosages of technique. He had such a brilliant footballing brain..Rightly so Barnes was voted the 1988&1990 PFA/PWA Footballer of the year.He fought racial bigotry with such class, civility&humility.
I used to like John Barnes but I only appreciate him now, regretfully.
Fisicamente ed atleticamente come Rumenigge , estro e classe da vero Big !
Had brazilian type skill, shame England didn't play his style of football. If they had there would have a second World Cup..
