    Out of all the international players that have ever played in Italy. All of them! John Charles was voted the greatest of all by the Italians themselves! Enough said!!

    when you compare this giant humble man to the pathetic players of today , you can understand why i have gone from living the game, to hating all it stands for now.

    What a lovely man. How we could do with one of his kind today. Is there ONE player in today's Ugly Game remotely like him. I've sent my brilliant musician friend Carl Picton some words for a possible song, King John Charles.

    John Charles the best British player to successfully crack it in Serie A

    I saw him at Ninian Park playing for Wales against England his presence dominated the field. Then later I saw him back at Ninian Park playing for Cardiff City towards the end of his great career still magical. a truly great sportsman.

      Tridhos I've read that he was arguably the best player to have ever played in the Italian League. That's quite a statement when you consider what Maradona done for Napoli. Would you rate JC up there with a Maradona, or Messi?

    • @Tridhos
      @Tridhos Před 9 lety +1

      mam somal Yes I would put him above those. I saw an interview with one of the England internationals who said he once challenged Charles in the air and recalls his head connecting with the chest of Charles. You would see the teams run out for an international and immediately the figure of Charles would stand out. I never saw him indulge in any unsportsmanship unlike Maradona, Charles had no need of the devious little tricks on the field.
      The Hungarians who deservedly earned a magnificent reputation for their demolition of England at Wembley in 53 tarnished that reputation in the 58 World cup when their only answer to Charles was to kick him off the field.

      Tridhos I've witnessed some remarkable players, but I wasn't fortunate enough to see JC in action. To be a formidable player in both the forward and defensive positions is a rare trait in the modern game, in fact it's non-existent. Undoubtedly a powerful athlete

      mam somal i'm italian, juventus fan, and my father always told me how strong that team was. he says he never admired footballers like charles, sivori and boniperti (two team mates, strikers too). but i don't know if he was the best foreign player: until 2000, almost all the best players in the world were in italy, so it's very difficult. plus, at that level, i think you can't actually tell who's the best, it's just personal taste. so bad i wasn't born in the 50's

      Giosafat Scura True. And the game has evolved substantially since that era. I think it would be more difficult to show your talent in the modern game

    Speaking of big crowds: Celtic v Leeds Hampden park, Glasgow - 137,000 I'd bet that is still a European record crowd.
