Will always be my favourite player of all time. The roar of anticipation in the crowd when he picked the ball up down the left wing was unforgettable. Great memories.
Barnes and Rush, my two favorite players from that era. On the occasion that we got European soccer feeds here in the states, I loved watching these two.
What an intelligent and thoughtful bloke. Let's hope he stays active in the game. His comments about Rush being their best defender are spot on - something missing in current forward play.
Had it not been for his color he'd be a regular on England's team. Cannot forget him sitting on the bench during the World Cup. What an injustice to football fans everywhere.
That was what allowed England not to have won the World Cup, Good for them, Racism never win, Johnny Barnes was the humblest Jamaican ever to have played in England and he was the best in his time. He made me a Liverpool fan for life..
totally agree . only putting him on last 15 min when 0:2down to Argentina . a guy who can dribble 2,3 defenders & provide tender curling cross. many asians becomes life long liverpool fans after watching him in the late 80s. still waiting another john barnes to lift up the league trophy for the club since 1989/90.
Wished i was Liverpool manager would love to offer John Barnes a coaching job at Liverpool bringing his motavation and skills and expereience as liverpool player could bring a positive effect on Liverpool
To me he is better than Salah and Mane combined , this guy had free kicks on a string , his control , he is a Liverpool top 3 all time player in my eyes
Easily the most exciting player in British football he could make the ball do anything and was so silky smooth gliding past players as if they did not exist.
why does johnny barnes put himself down in this interview. I'm 38 and grew up with that amazing L.F.C. team. yes there was the old guard of Liddel etc, but seriously johnny barnes, you are the best most exciting player I have ever seen pull on that famous red shirt. My goodness give YOURSELF some credit man!
Alan McMaster , I agree with you, John Barnes for me was easily the most talented footballer anywhere, he was just unique, and Ian Rush was the best centre forward.
Barnes was stunning back then at LFC. Shame English clubs were banned from Europe as who knows what LFC would’ve done in Europe with that side between 1987-1990
@LFCHistory , what roy needs is to get the players playing a attacking short passing game, mata would be nice. but i think they really need to start looking at local kids rather spend big transfer fees
liverpool should try and train own local lads somehow for me it feels much more proud when local lads become a superstar for the club..fowler mcmanaman owen carra & definitly stevie G...i want new local lads to lead the team..feeling of pride for liverpool..

What a humble and intelligent man. He even tried to say that his top 5 position wasn't justified due to young voters not seeing the older players.
John, one of the best players of all time in the world.
RIght up there with Pele and Maradonna.
And such a modest man.
Well sed I agree mate.
I tell my friend's and family that Barnes from 1984 to 1991 he was maaaaaagnificent.
But friends say he was just OK!!
Totally agree
Barnes and Rush, my two favorite players from that era. On the occasion that we got European soccer feeds here in the states, I loved watching these two.

Ian Rush and John Barnes , that’s as good as it gets
Met John Barnes in India what a personality

Digger is fucking ace. Talks the most sense of any ex-reds.

There is no way Fowler can be rated above John Charles Barnes!.
Bringing back Rush destroyed what could have been Liverpool's greatest team.
He was the king of the kop
@LFCHistory , what roy needs is to get the players playing a attacking short passing game, mata would be nice. but i think they really need to start looking at local kids rather spend big transfer fees
Best players to have played in England...Cantona, Barnes, Gazza, Henry...and this last one I dislike his team (Drogba)
Should be #1
liverpool should try and train own local lads somehow for me it feels much more proud when local lads become a superstar for the club..fowler mcmanaman owen carra & definitly stevie G...i want new local lads to lead the team..feeling of pride for liverpool..
