The main purpose of music is to add joy and happiness to peoples lives. That’s why all these old songs almost always make you feel happy at the end of them. I think the younger generation has kind of forgotten that.

They became Michael McDonald's band completely losing the Doobie Bros. uniqueness. They were told to go along with wherever McDonald was taking them (basically Michael putting himself front and center -- usurping -- the band for himself) or else they would be let go. And sure, DJ's played McDonald's songs -- giving them way more airtime than they warranted because the music industry is political even back then. But, prior the McDonald's takeover, the Doobie Bros were awesome!

The early Doobie Bothers, their first five albums but their 2nd through 5th specifically, were their absolute best. They were pretty much _the_ rhythm rock and roll band of the 1970s. Tremendous rock and roll and we teenagers loved them back in the 70s! And great lead guitars and vocals. Everything about them was great and they had so many hits you heard them almost every hour back then on AM radio!

DJs have played it nightly since it came out, but very few people know who it's by or what the name of the song is - they usually guess "Without Love" - but it still fills the dancefloor. Off to the side was an elderly gent with a table of his memorabilia. Then the groups wandered in and this guy came to life. Invited to join the stage, the bands thought they would need to slow down for him. Were they wrong

Doobie Bros. and, Steely Dan, were my favorite bands when I was 15 years old. They shared studio musicians. Just two awesome bands.

I usually dont like couples channels but you guys work for me cause you both have your own interesting comments instead of just repeating eachother. Its like two reactions in one. Keep it up.

You can not go wrong with older or newer Doobie Brothers songs - soul, funk, rock & later jazzy, a little r & b too!

Just FYI: Though I was then and still am now a big fan of disco...they were definitely not nor were they considered Disco. You're right though, their sound did cross many other genres of music. Great band to follow, big rabbit hold of music and all of it Good!

Doobie Brothers had at least two incarnations. One BEFORE Michael McDonald, and the other WITH Michael McDonald. He had a HUGE influence on their sound. A good influence in my opinion.

The Doobie Brothers .Wow.They did the lyrics for Long Train Running over music that was played as a jam session in their concerts for years.Tom Johnston wrote it and plays the Harmonica solo.
It is done just right.I never get tired of listening to it.Reminds me of freight trains moving through our small town. From the sound of the train moving over the tracks the horn belting out a warning signal absolutely brilliantly done. The thumping of that bass is bad ass.I Love It.
