  • You want to getting into precision rifle matches but you only have regular access to 100 yds for practice.... can you be competitive? In my opinion, yes you can be very competitive in long range shooting matches even if you only have access to 100 yds for practice. In the first part of thist video I give you an in depth look at the type of long range shooting drills that I like to run at 100 yds. Then in the second half of the video we'll actually go shoot another local long range match and bring you along for the journey so you can see exactly how I perform only a day after my 100 yard practice session.

    I sold my competition gun, recently. It was nice to see that boat anchor go. The buyer loved the light trigger (3 oz) with a very safe action that he couldn't get it to fail. I told him how to get around the action firing when you close the bolt with the 3 position trigger. The Winchester M70 has a safety that few others have. It is sad that most shooters only know Remington junk. The Remington safety is placed in the way when you want to fire rapidly in competition. I am now transitioning over to gas guns.

    All of my 1000 yard wins are the result of 100 yard practice to build a shot to shot consistency in prone sling supported position. Helped me to earn the NRA American High Power Rifleman Award in Long-Range. At any rate, yes, practice at 100 yards on the NRA MR-31 Target and once you get into the 1/2 minute arena you will have the consistency to win at 1000 yards.

    What's helped me is working positional shooting at 100yds. Modern day sniper has a target and the rifle Kraft target focus on that. Essentially work on getting consistent POA/POI across standing, high kneel, low kneel, sitting, prone. It's humbling to shoot a good prone group then see how my body input causes poi shift. But I was able to practice it a few times and work on each individual position and now I'm confident in shooting sub 1moa at any position.

      You for sure know what’s important to good shooting, a muscularly relaxed position that is Princess & The Pea sensitive to natural point of aim. Success with it can be measured by shooting in NRA/CMP Service Rifle Division Competition. This is my observation as a competitor and CMP-USAMU Military Rifle Instructor assisting the USAMU deliver Squad Designated Marksman Training.

    I'm just an average Joe.... but, I'd like to know what to stock up on for SHTF.... I'd love to see a video that compares (3) .223 barrel lengths (10.5, 16" and 18") shooting at 200 yards with 55gr fmj, 77gr otm, and 62 soft point..
    It'd be nice to see what each barrel length would do at each target with each ammo.... targets would be ham shoulders.

    That’s for showing the good and bad shots! When in the kneeling position I think you could get more stable if you brought your right knee out and rested your right elbow on top of it. Hope that helps

    • @charlesludwig9173
      @charlesludwig9173 Před 4 měsíci

      The knelling position is of all positions the most difficult because it’s the one position where muscle of elbow is placed over bone of knee, which provides stability but prevents desired muscular relaxation. This is in contrast to standing, sitting, and prone positions which are all supported by bone thus making needed muscular relaxation possible.

    • @mmorris7808
      @mmorris7808 Před 4 měsíci

      Came here to say this. It's how I teach on the military side. Turn the toes of the firing side foot away from the target, more to a 90. Bring your non-firing knee up front closer to the wall (body will be bladed about 45 deg) Elbow on knee (ensure not bone-to-bone) and heel down flat to ground, driving recoil to the ground. I found our basic-level shooters almost double their scores by solidifying their kneeling position a bit better. Take-away = stay off the balls of the feet.

    Absolutely phenomenal video bro.
    Ill more than likely snag one of those Griffin MK2 Ambi CONTROLS Lowers . All i use is ambi lowers . I also wanna try out Aero M4E1 New Ambi CONTROLS LOWER . M4E1 With FCD , BCM , and Geissele parts is my go too lower ..
    IMO BA 223W Hanson Premium Black Series and Roscoe K9 Greenline 13.9" are my 2 favorite barrels for precision work on a budget . Roscoe K9 Series is slighly better but BA comes with Pinned LPGB . Criterion Core C.L. , Centurion MIDWEIGHT HF and Noveske HF are IMO the most accurate C.L. Barrels ive ever shot . Centurion Recce and Noveske Afghan are my favorite straight up SS Barrels . Obviously Proof barrels are probably the top dogs but i prefer BA , Roscoe , Centurion or Criterion..
    That Rail with built in Bipod surs does look interesting . Definitely curious to see if that has any issues after about 10 matches or so..
    I do have 2 Lightweight 6ARC Uppers . Both are Faxon Match Grade Gunner Profiles which are super LW . IMO they are built for carrying all day vs shooting all day . Prefect for LW Mini Recce or Hunting application. Faxon Match Gunner is 1.5MOA barrel or at least mine are . My personal standard for shooting accuracy when it cones to barrels is being able to go 5 for 5 on 6" plate from 100 - 300Y and 10" plate from 300 - 600Y. To me thats more than accurate enough for PRS Gas Gun . My Custom Criterion 16" 6ARC Barrel is lights out accurate .
    There is a decent amount of PRS Matches in the South East . Especially around NC and SC Area . Also Florida has decent amount as well . I live right outside the DMV area in WV . I have access to pretty bad ass range that goes out to 1k.

    Can you do a video or comment on modern chronos for developing ballistic data. I’ve been looking at the Garmin Xero c1 pro chrono as the latest tech, and it seems to get favorable reviews. It would be great to see how you collect data, put into ballistics calls, and use to formulate your solutions. Love your content.

      If you have either an MOA or mil scale reticle you can use it to range target distance on a known size target and thereafter hold on the reticle for speedy shot. Typically you would not adjust zero because it invites error. The exception is when the shooter will hold for a lot of wind.
