I think this is a really good idea and glad to see the X Frame series is finally being evolved and expanded. As we all know, more calibers and options for the X-Frame series are long overdue by S&W. For my personal use, I think the 460V (5" barrel) is an overall better use with more flexibility from 3 different calibers. But there is no doubt, that the 350 Legend will make an outstanding handgun hunting revolver.

The recoil looks super light compared to something like a 44 magnum. Looks like a fun gun to shoot
It is fun and light recoiling. My oldest daughter is a recoil sissy but even she thought it was mild.
It ought to be mild, the gun weighs a ton. Cylinder walls are the thickest out there.

To put an optic on this gun you can remove the 2 screws on the rear sight and put a rail on it for a scope

If you haven't got 460sw yet, you've got to get it. It's so nice and the most versatile pistol out there. You can shoot 460sw, 45 casull, 45lc, 45 Schofield and 45 auto rim.
I’ve been thinking about it.
As far as a loading tool goes just get a piece of 3/8" steel pipe and grind 1/4" off the end except for a 3/8" portion. Slip the pipe over one of the empty's and twist, out the cases pop with little effort and no twisting. $1 and 2 minutes with a grinder and file. As for the X Frames, I'm not a big fan. Just to large. They are 20% larger and heavier than my Ruger SRH in 454 and that is a deer slaying machine. I've shot many of the X Frames, they belong to a few friends and all but one is up for sale. I did build a 350L in the AR platform, not what I would take hunting but it is fun and dirt cheap to shoot. I cast and powder coat Lee 358-158-RNFP bullets, powder coat them and resize them to .356 with a Lee resizer. Pushed by Ramshot Enforcer or H110 the most expansive part is the primer, nice when you want to go out with the grandkids and shoot all day for the cost of a burger.
Cylinder and Slide bead blast finished my two X-frame revolver big bores.

I'm soooo glad my Magnum Research 350 Legend doesn't need moon clips - load and go. I was interested in this gun until now.
Mags were hard to come by if not outright impossible when the shield plus first released too. Now they’re everywhere.
The 10mm magazines are also now easily acquired too.
It’s not that they’re “not supporting their products” it’s that it’s a brand new product. Give them a little time to catch up. It’ll be fine.
It looks nice (I'm not a huge S&W fan), but I wish someone would make a more "compact" version for carry. If someone could make a 350 revolver with maybe 5 shots for a smaller profile, shorter barrel ( 5 or 4") it would be a great trailgun/trap line checker.
At the shorter concealed barrel length you are right around the 357mag ballistics. So it would be much cheaper to purchase the 357mag version for 500 to 600 less.
It’s too niche but what it does it does very well.. with at least a 7” barrel

@@cherrycitygunsandammo1011 hey I was about to go to sleep when it popped into my head, it is drilled and taped to take a scope mount. Swing out the cylinder and see the 3 taped holes.
@@gunsnwater2668 you are correct. I’ve already got an optic on it. I still don’t like that it three pretty small tapped holes vs. other revolvers marketed as hunting handguns that have rail machines into the frame.

Beautiful revolver. Thanks for the review. My experience with moon clips matches yours. They're fiddly in my 8 shot 357. I assume they work better with shorter cartridges and autoloader bullet profiles. They are downright annoying with revolver profile bullets like semi-wadcutters and eight chambers.
I thought it should be optics ready myself... But S&W completely dropped the ball on my PC 500 with the rail. It looks like picatinny, but weaver like dimensions. I ordered the Primary Arms RS-10 and it doesn't fit that majestic looking rail.
Yeah. I hope they watch some of the videos that are going to be coming to help figure out their shortcomings.
Defenly be optic ready
Remove the rear adjustable sight and get a scope mount from S&W that attaches in that way to hold an optic. All frames on the X-frame have this scope mounting option.
I will stick with 44 Magnum. With my 180 gr. XTP load I get 1520 FPS out of my Ruger SBH 7.5 barrel and no need for moon clip or a ported barrel.

It is optics ready. You take off rear sight and there are 3 screw holes for your mount.
I had TK Custom make my 460V S&W magnum revolver cylinder take their stainless steel moon clips for 45 ACP and using Starline brass the 45 ACP moon clip also handles 45 Super, 460 Rowland and the 45 Winchester magnum. I also bought their loading tool and unloading tool. Still shoots 460 S&W magnum, 454 Casull, 45 Colt and 45 Schofield without moon clips. How? Had a Cylinder and Slide extra long firing pin put on by my gunsmith and test fire without moon clips and it was reliable.
That’s awesome. I wonder if I could shoot 9mm with moon clips?

What a shame. Perfect opportunity to reintroduce the 357 Super Mag, basically the same as the 357 Remington maximum. With the 357 maximum you would have no need for Moon Clips because it is a true revolver cartridge. You'd have better .357 / .358 bullet selection. 200 grain hardcast and even heavier. Plus the versatility of shooting 357 Magnum and 38 Special and even the almost unheard of 360 Dan Wesson. What else can you shoot in the 350 Legend revolver? I understand it's made the way it is to function in an AR-15. Thats where it should stay. That gun chambered in 357 Super Mag with it's 1.6" case would be fantastic!

I hope S&W is watching. They need to pay attention to stuff like this. Colt admitted issues on the Python, S&W should commit to fixing these "minor complaints". Paying attention to your customers always brings more. My last model 629 classics' ejector rods and cylinder releases kept coming loose so I had to put blue loctite on them. But should I of had to if S&W would have done it in the first place? Hey S&W how about a 44 mag on the X-frame, your competitors make 44 on extra large frame revolvers already (Ruger and Taurus). Making an X frame that can fire, .410 2.5", .410 3.0", 45 ACP, 4 LC, 454 Casull, and 460 Magnum all in one gun would be a feat no one else has done either. Don't you let Taurus do it first.

Interesting to say the least! I have Blackhawks, 357,41,and 45 lc. Redhawk in 44 mag! My favorites to humt with are my contenders and encores in 14" & 15" barrels! I kmow business is business, but how S&W did T C is unforgivable! I will NEVER buy a S&W firearm ever again!

Original Precision makes a matching metal plug to plug the Hillary Hole. And Midway USA has M&P 2.0 10mm extra magazines as I bought one. At $42 not cheap though.

Awsome gun but not being made optic ready and not lot mon-clips at $1500 price is crazy.
All smith and Wesson revolvers in the k frame and up are drilled and tapped. It is optic or scope ready.
Being drill tap dose mean ready for optic . Here is question how many of these people know that? Must people say optic ready in reviews mean comes with base or optic base already or red dot . So many people get used to that these days even rifle comimg pre scoped
I was meaning something more along the lines of some other revolvers that are specifically marketed as hunting revolvers having rails machined into the frame for more solid mounting. I have already added an optic to this revolver and will show what I did in the next video, but the tapped holes are very small and only three of them. I would like to see something more substantial for optics mounting.
They should have made this in the 360 buck hammer. It would make more sense

A nice revolver but the 460 is a better choice in my opinion.You can shoot many different ammo types in a 460 and reload all of them for less.Better power and wide variety of options.My 2 cents.If you have one or want one do your thing and wish you many years of happy shooting.Big bores are fun no matter which one you choose.Best.
I think a 357 Maximum would be better as 357 magnum and 38 Special could also be used in it. And no need for moon clips. Scopes can be put on it if you remove the rear adjustable sight the hole left makes a scope fit the scope mounting system used by S&W.
350 legend is cheaper per round than .38 special. this is a magnum plinker in my eyes

Loading moon clips in the gun is a breeze once your use to it. Been using moon clips for years never had any issues
I’ve loading plenty of moon clips into revolvers as well. It is easy in most cases. This round is so long plus with the way the moon clips are made they slop around too much. Trust me, it’s harder than any other moon clip system out there.
More powerful than your average. 357 loads but definitely not the ultimate hunting revolver. With the underwood 90 grain extreme defender bullets it would be ridiculous though.
Is some of that energy loss from the cylinder gap? What would you get shooting it out something like a contender with that barrel length?
The contender would probably give a higher velocity. The cylinder gap is surely contributing, but I don’t know how much.

No, but they moon clips load very easily by hand.
I'll stay with my 30-30 winchester and the good old 357 Magnum.
Going to shoot any of the subsonic ammo? Or pretty pointless? Also I know on the 10mm moon clip S&W Model 610 you can shoot without moon clips, you just have to manually release each round. I'm hoping that's at least an option on this pistol.

can you please let me know that S&W model 350 barrel is traditional single piece barrel or two piece barrel....????
No, you don't have to shoot it with moon clips. It will shoot without them, so, you have the incorrect information. The moon clips make it easy to load and unload but they are not necessary for firing the gun. If you don't believe me, try it. You may need a small rod to punch out the ammo from the cylinder but they will usually just fall out when you pop out the cylinder and dump them out.
I'd like a 4inch.
I'm torn on this thing. On the one hand, you really are giving up so much speed and power compared to a .460. On the other, I don't want to dismiss the recoil reduction, and maybe handloading can give you more speed/energy if you want it.
I think if I work up some handloads with some faster burning powders I might be able to get some better velocities.
I bet some good hand loads I think it could get close to 2000 FPS out of them
@@buddysumner4022 I agree. All the rounds tested are loaded for a rifle and being such are surely loaded with some very slow burning rifle powder. I’m better with some faster burning magnum pistol powder I can get them moving quicker.
They could have easily designed it so that it would not need moon clips
But 350 legend has a rebated rim. How could a revolver compensate for that?
They headspace on the case mouth. Most revolvers in rimless calibers do this and don't need clips. The clips allow the ejector to function. This gun probably works without clips.

Question is, how long does the moon clips last? Is it something you're going to have to buy over and over?

Yes. I tried it yesterday without and around half the time the round would go off and the other half the round would get pushed foreword in the cylinder.

Velocity very similar with hot .357 magnum.
You’re not going to get a 357 going that fast with that weight of bullet. Maybe a 125 but not a 150.
@@cherrycitygunsandammo1011 not most of 357 but high end does. I believe buffalo bore 180 gr. hard cast will matcn those 170 hornady out of 7" revolver.
@@AlekseySh1982 correct 158 with 6 inch barrel will hit 1,500 fps not range ammo but all hunting rounds will. Underwood 357 sig in 4 inch will hit that speed.

Usually hand guns that take moon clips are more expensive and it’s impossible to shoot 350 Legend in a revolver without moon clips since it is a rimless cartridge.

Nope. 357 has a rim, 350 legend doesn’t and 357 is .357 and 350 legend is .355
I was hoping for a wider variety of chronographing. I think you gave a fair assessment, but you should not skimp on the naming ACTUAL pricepoint.
I’m going to do more chronographing and gel testing to see if hunting ammo actually performs at those lower velocities.
@@cherrycitygunsandammo1011 1500+ for a 170 grain .355 from apistol is not too shabby. Sectional density is on par with a 250 gr .429 bullet without the additional recoil
Am sure handloading specifically for a handgun could make it some better.

I would think a 240 gr. .44 mag would make more sense . No moon clips . Far more energy .

Then it wouldn’t be an N frame. Anytime they make a frame of a different size whether to accommodate a larger diameter or length cylinder, it’s a new frame letter.

Hot 357 mag with that barrel length. Would be very close to the same. 350 legend is Point less in a handgun its a 30 30 in a long gun where it shine there.
You won’t get a 357 of the same weight up to that speed.

Point being a $1,500 gun that is big an heavy the size of a 460 an 500 that are both way more powerful. Only to get around the same punch as a 357 mag is a big person preference to me.

My revolver broke after 26 shots, no return phone call after a month. I don't beleive in s&w quality anymore.

The cartidge development industry which has unfortunately become an industry has tried to hard to come up with some magic cartridge.Sorry folks but Elmer Kieth and Roy Weatherby had you beat and 70 years ago.Give it up and just make great products.Great is great and and the technology has been discovered a long time ago.Elmer Keith busting balloons at 600 yds with a 44 mag revolver might change your mind.These guys where smarter than the average bear believe it or not and such a long time ago.Some things just cant be improved upon.The 460 has to be the best innovative cartridge since then.People didnt just start getting smarter because of the days we live in today.They have done there homework a long time before us.And they got it right.Hats off to the guys like them who really did the science and gave us some of most awesome cartridges ever developed.Sorry new tech your way to late to race and just chill out with marketing wank.Lets celebrate the masters and be content with that and offer best quality firearms to the world.

Do 2 thousandths of an inch really mean that much? In my reloads I actually use .357 bullets as the SAAMI specs call out for bullets ranging from .355 to .357.
@@cherrycitygunsandammo1011 , I think when the cartridge was developed, SAMI spec called for it to use the ,357 bullet, but the actual loading and bore diameter was built around the 9mm 355 bullets. I'm somewhat interested in this pistol/ cartridge combination. I think running some 68 gr bullets should have a tremendous velocity impact at close range distance with the solid copper, now Wilson Combat screwdriver tipped rounds. I'm imagining what a extreme penetrator would do to a wild boar? I'm still looking into if it would be good for bear... but if its velocity is close to that of a 30/30 , I'd be afraid to shoot dangerous game with it. I've heard too many horror stories about bear, being shot with 30/30 rifles and even 38. Special. I would be interested in carrying something for woods carry, from a revolver with 7 rounds, being that there's more than bears and boar to be concerned with. I had an experience where I once thought I was being surrounded by a pack of wild coyotes. I was fortunate they thought I was a Dogman, coming through their territory, that they were only a family group of Bigfoot. For a moment I thought I was going to have to spend the night up in a tree. I thought about what would a subsonic 350 legend do, with a heavier than normal 9mm bullet? Would it penetrate better through brush and automobiles , kind of like a miniature 45/70? Yes I'm interested in this new gun, although it's expensive and as far as woods guns go, a 4 inch 500. S&W magnum would work best for me. Typically my back up pistol is a Beretta 9mm, to the 12 gauge Mossberg shockwave with the three pellets of OO with a slug load, from Winchester. That's usually been my woods carry, or at the least a snub nosed 357. Magnum with hard cast lead. But even then it's literally like "What are you going to do with that little thing?" After getting a limb thrown at Janice Carter and I , while camping on a Bigfoot expedition. There's only one thing I know can do that, either a human or a Bigfoot, that can throw something at you in the woods, such as rocks etc.etc. but only one thing I know that can do both "mindspeak" and throw things... or only one thing I thought previously to this encounter... as I discovered there's more than Bigfoot in those woods! This being had the head of a Trex I described it. Janice thought it was an alien. But later I finally saw drawings people made of this creature having a head that looked elongated nose, described as having a donkey's head on a human body figure. What ever it was, when your hear" Hells bells" and the Devils dragging chains, not much of anything other than the sincere prayer to God is going to stop it!

I will eventually get a m350, but since it's basically a unwanted caliper in my state I'm waiting cus currently the ammo is near impossible to find around here
