Red Notice is a new Netflix action-heist blockbuster starring Deadpool Ryan Reynolds and Wonder Woman Gal Gadot and Specimen Dwayne Johnson -- which you might've already forgotten about it. Despite this movie being very successful, it doesn't leave any kind of impact, at least not until the eventual sequel comes along. And to find out a few key reasons why that is, let's contrast it against the master of successful blockbusters, Michael Bay. Today's Anatomy of a Failure is all about the dangers of the consumable movie.

    Mission Impossible Fallout (2018)
After a dangerous assignment involving the recovery of stolen plutonium goes wrong, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) elects to keep his team out of harm's way rather than complete their mission, which results in a team of expertly trained operatives taking possession of nuclear weapons. Consequently, Ethan and his IMF team (Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson) must join forces with CIA assassin August Walker (Henry Cavill) in order to prevent a catastrophic nuclear fallout. Produced, written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie. Also starring Alec Baldwin, Angela Bassett, and Michelle Monaghan.

I don't know exactly how film distribution works, but I doubt that Netflix has a lot to do with the making of the movie. What I believe happened was that the Rawson Thurber (writer, director) was shopping his script around and Netflix just overbid every other company for the distribution of it, probably because of the big names. I'm not sure, but I think Netflix gives a lot of creators pretty much the freedom to do whatever they want. That can result in great content, but also... Red Notice.

It isn't necessarily bad they have such strong personalities/ fame, but it works better when the characters they portray fits the actual person/what they are known for like a glove. Take for example, Reynolds playing Deadpool. He fits the role and the movie so well because it fits the persona we have come to expect Reynolds. We get the right amount of emotion/sarcasm/humor from him and his character because they are so similar that they mesh together and are more believable. Hope this makes sense.

I watched it with my boyfriend and halfway through the movie we realized that it's a compilation of themes we've seen countless times before. It was so ridiculously and horribly predictable that I became bored and indifferent towards it. The only reason that I stayed relatively focused and entertained was because we made a drinking game out of it. Whenever one of us predicted that something would happen, and it obviously happened, we would take a shot. Best example: they struggled so much to get into the vault. Gal gadot is obviously gonna be waiting for them with some smug tease line. Wow, big surprise. Another example: after all of those adventures they finally made it to the nazi storage. The interpol is obviously gonna come in next moment, with no logical explanation of how they tracked them down. Etc, etc.
    We ended up wasted.

I would maybe disagree with Filmento on Cruise being the biggest movie star on Earth, but I think he would agree with me that Will Smith as some guy I guess in Gemini Man in theaters isn't interesting to people the same way Will Smith as Batman villain Deadshot in Suicide Squad or the Genie in Aladdin in theaters would seem. Netflix is the perfect place to watch "real" movies that are marketed with attractive & likeable actors; there's nothing risky in sitting on the couch, pressing a few buttons, & zoning out, as opposed to putting on clothes, driving somewhere, walking, & paying cash monies in a theater on an original movie that might suck lol.

This movie also serves as a case study on how not to do a good plot twist.
When a twist is done well, you think back to all the moments where it was subtly hinted at but you didn't notice at the time, or you feel happy how you knew this was going to happen because you did catch the hints.
With Red Notice, though, all it made me do is see how it doesn't make any sense. For example, they show the scene where Gal Gadot steals the egg from the back of the truck again, but it plays out completely differently to how it was shown back when it happened in the movie. If, in the original scene, we hadn't seen The Rock looking for and not finding a hiding Bishop, this would work, but we have, so not only was there no setup at that point, there was a direct contradiction to the twist. Another example is the escape from the prison. Why would the guards be shooting at them if they're supposed to escape, especially with a missile, that they only avoid in a super risky way that the Bishops couldn't even have planned ahead because Ryan Reynolds' character came up with it? And so on and so forth.
If a twist leaves you feeling like the movie didn't cleverly deceive you, but actually lied to you and made up random bullshit just so it can say "haha, plot wist!", it is not a good twist.

Or give a flashback/dream sequence as he describes this life he longs for...later reveal it was made up. Or even just show a scene that makes it *seem* like the character has a certain life but it was just coincidence and appeared that way to the audience but wasn't so.
