    I have this deck as well as a Nak Dragon and the playback on this deck with pre-recorded tapes is as good as it gets. Have tested dozens of high end three head dual capstan decks (Sony. JVC, Pioneer, Denon, Nak, etc) in studio and the sound quality on this unit is outstanding. Comparable to dragon on pre-recorded tapes.

    Hey. I have this deck. I got it new in 1989, used it frequently for a few years, and in 1995 I switched from vinyl to CD as a DJ. I was out of the country (Sweden) working 1993-95, so since 1993, it hasn't been used more than a couple of times. Last thing that did happen, was that I had a break in and got it stolen early in 1993. Fortunately I got it back after a few days only, from the police, and insurance paid for a total overhaul and service. I guess it's still working fine but I don't dare to put any of my old tapes in it in case they damages the heads. I really don't have any use for it and I think gear like this should be used by people appreciating the value. This was an expensive piece of gear back in the days.
    I also have a studio grade audio cd burner, the Pioneer PDR-05, that I used to convert my vinyl into digital. I used it for a couple of years until I could do almost everything in the computer instead. It still is a very good CD player and there's not many units that can compete with the quality and features this one have. The money I spend on this machine ($2000/£1500) and the recording media ($150/£110 / 10pcs@60min) almost seem ridiculous today, but it was still cheaper than to buy all my music once again on CD.
    These two pieces of excellent hardware is just collecting dust, and if there's anyone out there interested to give me an offer, just get in contact. You can comment here or visit me on Facebook, Peter Lindqvist , same picture, or you can find my e-mail on my CZcams profile. If anyone give me a proper offer, I can include a Sony mini disc player/recorder, almost not used at all in the deal.

    If my 905 was working properly in dbx mode I would put it up against the onkyo any day.8 db recording level with normal and high bias tapes,12 db with metal according to the owners manual.

    I have a whirring sound (not very loud but I think it's from the motor) when I play or record! So far I don't notice any sound degradation...any idea what it could be ?

    RS-B100 > RS-B905 & RS-B965
    RS-B100; Disc and Tape DBX, Output level, DD Quartz, tape selectors looks better to me, more colorful: red normal, green cro2, yellow metal.

    • @HamtaroEL
      @HamtaroEL Před 5 lety

      RS-M253X & RS-B90 > RS-B965 & RS-B905

    • @KR1275
      @KR1275 Před 5 lety

      The RS-B100 was double the price of a RS-B905: better amp, better bias and calibration (esp. tape II, pure chrome), better transport, just much better sound, and not cheap to buy ;-(
      The B905 was cheap in the days. Around 500€ new.

      There's a few 965's on eBay now you should make some offers

      I have Onkyo TA 2570 else and I know it sounds better than 905 but it is not important, only nostalgia matters:)

  • @PaulJCost1
    @PaulJCost1 Před 7 lety

    Its a nice feature but not all players have that hability to decode DBX later when playing....
    Dolby B its the most common.
    DBX its a more complicated version of noise reduction and needs a precise alignment of tape in the head.
    Nice video... i sent you a message, hope you received it... Thanks

      +paulo fixo hi mate dbx is no problem swapping with different decks I've played dbx tapes on aiwas / Yamaha / teac , all sounded awesome as you say aslong as azimuth correct all is good. The problem is dbx walkmans or the lack of them

      an RS-B565 or 665 is an extremely good playback deck

    • @zetecfiesta
      @zetecfiesta  Před 7 lety +1

      Derek smith probably rs-b755 then or 765 for recording you want 3 heads with calibration controls to get it sounding just right

      Pity and strange, most of top Technics decks have DD

    • @zetecfiesta
      @zetecfiesta  Před 7 lety +1

      Pearl vision after around 1990 all their single decks were direct drive
      Before then and the twin decks were belt drive

    • @pearlvision7156
      @pearlvision7156 Před 7 lety +1

      But for instance RS B100 and 280 are from early 1980 and with DD

    • @zetecfiesta
      @zetecfiesta  Před 7 lety +2

      Pearl vision the rs-b100 and 280 are direct drive, but still use a belt for the capstan - like the rs-b965.
