    Very few tape decks have dbx built in (other than Tascam 4-track units). I found an external dbx encoder/decoder at a thrift store last weekend, and I plan to try it out with some recordings soon. Liked and subscribed.

    Hello, yes, a top product from Technics. I have the AZ 7 and the BX 606 (without drive belt) from Technics + JVC TD V 562 and Pioneer CT WM 77r, the 8050 from Kenwood is also there. 3 HiFi systems connected to 3 digital Dolby Atmos amplifiers. The sound is really great. Best wishes

    That's an awesome deck. Dolby DBX is awesome in a way that you can play the tapes in a non-Dolby tape decks. Tapes recorded in Dolby B or Dolby C must be played in that format. Playing tapes in a non-Dolby decks will sound metallic similar to MP3 sound. Dolby S is also not bad. Tapes recorded in Dolby S format still sound well in non-Dolby decoded decks. I never use Dolby B or C for that reason. Dolby DBX and Dolby S are the only formats I use. Another thing is, if you record tapes louder, 2-3 bars past the normal level, you can use the Dolby feature increasing the levels of sound quality. Remember, it's not the tape that hisses, rather the stereo or deck itself hisses and the hiss gets recorded unto a cassette. You can see for yourself by blocking the sensors, and with no tape loaded in the deck, press play, and you will hear the same hissing noise with no tape in the deck. It upsets me when people say it's the "tape" hiss, when in reality it's not. I've been proving it to so many people, and some people still say "tape" hiss, instead of deck hiss. Try it for yourself, you'll find out the truth.

      @jmmbos Před 10 měsíci

      DBX works too harsh and too rigid . You have listen more carefully , then you'll find that Dolby B sounds the best . Everything you do to eliminate tape hiss damages the original dynamic of the source .. When this deck cane out , I was very disappointed in Technics . It doesn't even have a cassette backlight , I mean come on .. for the topmodel . The sound of the mechanical part is also an abomination . It doesn't even have a cammotor for engaging the heads onto the cassette . When you press play some severe blows can be heard , just like some cheap entry level decks.. What a difference compared to the decks from late seventies.. Those were awesome . This one's a joke ..

    I have a TEAC A550-RX deck with DBX built 1979.
    It has 80dB S/N, decks with dolby C took another decade to reach this.

      Always hated DBX recordings.The pumping and breathing were inherent to that system no matter how you calibrated it.Dplby C and at the end the fantastic Dolby S for me

  • @ProjectOverseer
    @ProjectOverseer Před 4 lety +7

    I love dbx but you have to encode your recordings in dbx to truly benefit. This makes encoded tapes sound awful in non dbx decks. Dolby isn't the same in this regard.
    But overall, dbx is a great idea that works on vinyl (if the record is dbx) and of course reel to reel which I've used many times.

    Is that a Maxell UR tape or Sony tape made by Maxell? Or TDK tape that's also made by Maxell?, the way blank tapes are made and sold nowadays.

    you are not recording loud enough when using dbx.8db with normal and chrome tapes...12 with metal.dbx not only eliminates noise,but extends dynamic range to 110 db.

      dbx lowers the noise floor and increases the headroom. So yes, you could say it gives you better dynamics and better signal-to-noise level. Depending on the music I record and tape i use, I would turn it on/off on my RS-B965 when recording. I'll post more videos of recording with it for everyone to watch :)

  • @verastaki
    @verastaki Před 4 lety +1

    Tape noise? Even though it's not the tape that makes noise, that noise does get recorded unto the tape eventually if you don't record them properly. Try playing a brand new blank tape, you might hear some noise that the tape deck itself produces, then remove the tape and press play, you will hear the same exact noise without a tape in the deck. Bottom line is that it's not the tapes that hiss rather the tape deck itself hisses. How many times do I have to explain it to people.

    Przy nagrywaniu w systemie DBX powinieneś ustawić poziom nagrywania +10 / +12 db. W przeciwnym razie słyszalny będzie efekt "pompowania" dźwięku. To wynika ze specyfikacji systemy DBX. Nie bój się nie będzie zniekształceń a znacząco poprawi to jakość dźwięku. ;)

    Hey mate, not sure if you check your video anymore, I have the same model but it stopped detecting metal and chrome cassettes, when the door is open and I move my finger inside, I can feel the nobs on the top and when I press them, the metal and chrome LED light up, have you ever opened this unit before, I've had Denon over past 3 decades and this is my first Technics which I bought it 2nd hand about 20 yrs ago. Thanks.

    Got my 965 yesterday. It was extremely dirty so I cleaned it the best I could.This morning when I hit play it would play a couple of seconds then shut off.Also the transport is making a squeaky noise and it ate a maxell ur tape.Also last night when recording the dbx shut off by itself.Any thoughts?

    • @zetecfiesta
      @zetecfiesta  Před 6 lety

      This is unfortunately an example of why i don't recommend 965's
      dbx issue my guess is dirty switches in push buttons. you will need to un-solder all 20 or so micro switches and replace with new
      chewing tapes - dirty pinch rollers, bad belt, or something misaligned ?
      squeaking noise - transport needs rebuild/clean/service
      there is some 965 pics here, www.flickr.com/photos/155449224@N04
      and here www.tapeheads.net/showpost.php?p=718495&postcount=91
      you need a m300 alignment gauge or replica to properly align and set up the transport (see pics)
      you need a proper wow and flutter test tape to make sure supply capstan or bush isn't worn out.
      trust me these decks can be a real pain in the ass. BTW are you in the UK?

    • @lghaze42
      @lghaze42 Před 6 lety

      No in the US. The tape I made saturday morning before all the issues sounds amazing on my 905.Not only play but ff and rew quit wotking as well.like I said whoever had it never cleaned or lubed anything.Why can't the buttons be cleaned with deoxit?

    • @zetecfiesta
      @zetecfiesta  Před 6 lety

      you can clean them with deoxit and a few months later your issues will come back.. join tapeheads forums there are a lot of members from US in there. you need to send to your deck to a qualified experienced technician - there is a few in US on tapeheads - Good luck

    • @zetecfiesta
      @zetecfiesta  Před 7 lety +3

      in that case you need to clean (with contact cleaner) or ideally replace all the microswitches behind every push button this is a common fault
      its best to de solder and replace, if you clean it and leave it a few months it will just do it again
      also while soldering iron is out fix all cracked and dry solder joints on every board, also a common issue

    top model, last edition? ps i grow up with t decks. i will give u intro for next video. 1. show difference in calibration of normal, chrome and metal cassette. with the finger inside of deck you can active auto filters. tell the people that normal cassettes have less high tone... and they are not good. that chrome cassette has more of high tones. show them that tdk cassette has extra ordinary dynamic sound recording. show them when you recording with the Dolby you are boosting high tones. When you playing you are filtering with the reason of filtering the friction noise. C has more wide range than B. MPX filter is used for recording from FM only. Timer on... in case you are not on set and electricity goes off. Deck will play automatically when electricity is back. Or on the time you want. ah those days. best d

      D. Tupaic I think the class AA are great for distortion levels, and I like the sound of my 909s but a lot of hifi forums don't rate technics amps too greatly. I have had Yamaha, Arcam, Cambridge audio and Sony, I think the technics is just fine

    • @musictrans
