I have never thought that recording on a cassette tape will be this good if done properly, with proper deck, tape type, and adjustments. Thanks for sharing. Now am thinking that my original cassette tapes purchased in the 80's and 90's can even sound better on a good quality tape deck.

and there are much better sounding decks ,being this one of the best ,in terms of evolution, to hear cassettes if not in your budget to buy a Dragon that is not that good as they say, but also the 90´s pioneer decks with the function FLEX while playing must be always on ,this if you´re cassettes were well built and good recorded ,and there is no similarities with paly trim from Yamaha, i have the CT-S603S and works very good with any cassette i put there to play they sound good as the day i recorded them from 20 to 40 years ago. This even seems a azimuth correction but isn´t

I have that Cassette Deck, I am actually using It now to Transfer Old tapes to CD for a Mate (Lockdown Blues). I bought It new back In the day, and Never needed another tape deck since. Mine Is the Black model one, and the best thing Is NO BELTS, as It Is Direct Drive like the SL1200/1210 turntables. So No pitch problems or slipping or tightening of the Tapes. The Calibration Is smack on the money. You can change the Meter reading to match what You are doing and for better Calibration on some Rough Tapes. Everyone I have done tapes for over the Years, say they still play them and they still Sound great. I always used type2 chrome tapes, I still have packs of unopened ones. As the Maxell Factory was just up the road from Me, and Mate would bring Me loads every week. I like the Matching CD player never seen one of those before outside a Radio Studio. Thanks for the Review. And Stay Safe.

    Dear Marcus!
Thanks for the instructive video, it helped me. Big thanks.
And one more question: the SL-P770 in silver is a rarity, very little to see this beautiful and especially high quality machine.
And where do you have this probably the rarest rarity of the RS-B755 in silver? ... they only made it for you in OSAKA only one?
There's a lot of RS-B755 in anthracite ... but I haven't seen silver in any Technics catalogs.
Good luck in your creation of such interesting videos and stay healthy. Sincerely, Erik Majcher

OK guys, I need some clarification.
Bias calibration means setting the bias value on the deck, so that a specific cassette tape reproduces the frequencies of the source as close as possible. I'll have to check what is the dB value for my Nakamichi BX-300. I have 10 kHz test tone if that's what is needed.
But what is level calibration with that 400 Hz? What kind of test is this?
    Thanks.

No. This is not the right mode to calibrate the tape.
Enought right but not at all the use for the 315 Hz, but If you think to record a 10khz test tone at 0 db to calibrate the tape as linear, you show not to know the basic magnetic recording information...

@@Badassvidsz I' m a technician for the Technics service here in Rome.
All the tape deck doesn't record all the frequency at 0 db vm cause the produce of hard saturation in the rec head and tape, this creates level loss and distortion. The frequency responce of a tape deck machine is always refer to a -20db vm, at o db the frequency responce riduce itself to 6/8khz max, even you use the Hx pro.
So, adjusting the bias with 10khz at 0db is absolutely wrong.
Unfortunately it is not possible to performe the bias adjust using the deck level meter, because at -20 db reading all the display deck level have little sensibility for little level changes, so precision is very low.
So, how we can do without a professional laboratory's meter? It's simple: using a pink noise.
Recording and adjusting the rec level at -20 db meter reading in rec/play mode with a 3 head tape deck, switch continiusly from source to tape and adjust the bias control hearing the differences in high frequency. After, adjust the level at 315hz 0 db meter ( better at -10db meter, if possible ). Repeat 3 times the two steps.
      Use this link: czcams.com/video/WJ9Go1PnAVA/video.html

Who in his right mind uses a 10kHz tone recorded at 0 dB on a basic ferric? Bias is calibrated at -20 dB to circumvent running into the tape's saturation. If you use a level that high, you surely will end up with severe underbias which will falsify your sound reproduction.

This is the RS-B755 model, which does not have a signal generator. In my collection, I have the Technics RS-B965, which is equipped with a signal generator. If you have an A&D deck (AKAI), you surely know that only the highest models of this brand have such options. The rest do not. The same applies to Technics and other companies.
