I’ll be the first to comment and say.. “this is genius.” I also own a set and they are a great alternative to jacking the car up, jack stands.. that whole bit. Though, I have had them take a quick scoot backwards before, when I was trying to feather the throttle to drive up on them, with my Civic 5spd. However, never did it occur to me to use the same material we use to line our kitchen drawers and cabinets with, to fix this issue. Great video! You taught me something today and for that.. I thank you.
I’m a professional mechanic but I use these to do my own oil changes at home. Great solution. I was using 2x4s to brace them from moving. Word to the wise though. This is very obvious but I had been working long hours with little sleep when I did it. DON’T JACK UP THE REAR AXLE WITH THE VEHCILE ON THE RAMPS. I did it on a rear drive SUV luckily my Jeep was parked behind it or I would have been run over when the front wheels rolled off the ramp backward. Clearly this was dumb as hell. I drove it up on the ramps to change oil but then noticed the rear brake pads looked low. Without thinking I slid the floor jack under the rear diff and jacked it up so I could take off the rear wheels and inspect the brakes. Park position and parking brakes aren’t going to stop the front wheels and down she came. FAST! I was pushed backward so fast by the ear bumper it was unbelievable. Luckily the floor jack handle hit my jeeps tow hitch and stopped the SUV in its tracks. It did actually move my jeep a couple of inches. Left skid marks. Anyway. Be safe. It only takes a second and momentary lapse.
Good advice, glad your close call had that outcome. Anytime you lift a vehicle and crawl under bears thinking about beforehand to make sure it's stable. 🙂
