  • This is my 1st experiment with the Soloshot3 Optic 25x. It went relatively well. You can see it lost me twice in this long clip. You cannot tell from the footage, but I was pretty far away from the camera on my outside transitions.
The 25x films in 1080p. This worked well for my purposes. Not stabilization was required in post. The camera automatically tracked and zoomed, I 4K really was not necessary.
The zoom level was perfect for capturing jumps when set to a medium field of view with a center focus. Soloshot provides an editor that shows the location of the footage which is pretty cool. That said, I used Davinci Resolve. I did try tweaking the color a bit. Not my best work, not the worst.
I plan to incorporate a bit more Soloshot3 into the channel going forward. I can drop it on the beach and let it calibrate while I pump up. It is quick and easy and my Gopros keep dying quick deaths.

Would say that worked pretty well!! Nice winging too 🤙🏼 🤩
Interesting how the soloshot looses you but then catches again. I suppose with other wingers out there it would get confused quite quickly?

Thanks! So you wear a little GPS tracker that is the about the size of a Gopro Battery on an armband. That is how it tracks you. Out of 40 minutes worth of tracking, it may have lost me 2 or 3 times. It tended to lose me more on the beach side transition. Each tracker tag is paired with an ID to the base station. I think you could have several of these going at once without issue.
Since the Optic25 units are pretty cheap on eBay, I thought about setting up two on different sides of the beach for multiple views. It is way less of a headache than mounting a gopro. More reliable than my Gopro after a month of use.
The Optic65 has 65 times zoom. That might be a good secondary. I went super far out on my outside turns. You cannot tell from the footage. I could barely see the tripod from that distance.

@@foilfanatic Ok so that's how it works! Pretty amazing stuff, combined with that amount of zoom! Thanks for sharing the details, very interesting!!

he's back! super cool bud, I haven't seen footage from one of these in a while and I'm impressed. what's the battery life like? and do you shoot at 30 or 60 FPS? and how many L is your Cab board?

I have a ton of large Drone Lipo Batteries and a voltage reader that has a usb output which connects right into the charge port of the Soloshot3. I use that combo as a battery bank. With that setup, I am only limited by the tag life. I have not fully tested out the limitations, but I expect to get 3 or 4 hours out of the setup. Without the battery bank, I am getting about 40 to 60 minutes at 60fps 1080p. I got tired of getting caught out on my 50L Armstrong so I switched up to 78L. No issues with swing weight doing jumping spin tricks. At 84kg, I can schlog it back in if needed. That Cab board rides very similar to the FG, but at a much better price point. Less worries about thrashing my gear, the better waves I can take on.

@@foilfanatic Right on! a friend and I were just talking about those Cab boards yesterday, the 78L specifically. Good to hear your thoughts on it. And interesting idea with the battery banks. real cool bud. I wish you a great weekend!
