He looks like a first responder who just got back from a very long call and took his boots off, and has to turn around put them back on and go on another call.
I never realized a still photo could elicit a 30 min. response. Love you guys. I think it looks fine. Doesn't raise my expectations for anything at the moment.
I like it, don’t hate it, but also don’t love it. I’m interested to see how it looks in action. At the end of the day Avengers(2012) was still awesome despite a weird Captain America suit.
The modernized "America's Ass" costume was inspired by the return of Captain America's appearance in Marvel's Avengers #No 4. The later interation of the suit would later bring more detail & texture. Especially when it comes to Endgame Worthy Cap. I do agree with you. The Blue jeans & Kevlar WW2 cap suit was the choice they should have picked.
Now that we finalize that tangent. I want to see it in motion. To see the fluidity when in battle.

As someone who was in the military, i understood Rocha's meaning about loose fitting. Reminded me having to wear 'cammies' (camouflage uniform) almost every day.
& yes that does look like an expensive apartment.
You gotta luv the way ppl who follow the way of Gunn can fill in the blanks to talk up his esthetic choices, in a position ligh😢t.
Looks great to me. I like the New 52 style collar.
I have no problem with the picture but it was a bit weird to make this big deal about hiding the suit through production to then post a... decidedly pretty normal looking picture. All in all, looking forward to the movie!

Shannon nails it. I wasn't a fan of the New 52 redesign, and this is clearly borrowing from that. I'm not thoroughly dismissing this, but underwhelmed covers it.
Honestly I feel like the New52 design clears this by a mile

Rocha is 100% right Bay windows like that, that's at least on the 30th floor thats a good 3500 month equivilant in New York. Clark Kent is a reporter they not making that much money
Clark is also a New York Times best-selling novelist, so he's got WAAAAAY more money than people think. On top of that, when he and Lois got married, they arrived at the reception in a Lamborghini which was also Lois' daily driver.

I think his outfit looks utilitarian in the way a "workman's" outfit would if he worked in a trade such as construction, mining, electrician. It gives me blue jean overalls vibes (without looking like overalls) so it gives the outfit the overall aesethic of a blue collar worker.
I really like this conversation after all the discourse. The “he’s just a guy” angle is spot on.

Never been a big Superman person, but I'm curious as to what Gunn does with him and b/c I want to see him elevated to icon status again. I like the costume well enough, it feels like a heavy fabric instead of the the hyper textured, skintight costumes of the 2010s and early, early 2020s.
So basically gunn pulling nostalgia into this Superman movie

Also pls keep in mind there are loads of superheros in this film. They mightve been trying to fight whatever that beam thing is and now Clark is going back in to save the day. There's so many variables but I think ppl will chill out once they see the film and what's going on
I really dig the new Superman suit. The wrinkles make it look more realistic and more comfortable. The dark blue color I also like, and it's not as dark as Cavill's blue color was. It's very new 52 like and that's awesome. The cape is really long, looks almost as long as my Batman cape from my Dark Knight costume worn by Christan Bale in the movies. I rank Corensweat's suit slightly above Cavill's. It's not too tight and I like that.
Personally I like the image. I do think it is a promo shot. The mention of “All in the camera” probably just means nothing added in post, not that it is a shot from the movie. But I get the feeling of a guy who just got home from a fight, took is shoes off and now has to go back out.

I have never seen in any Superman iteration, were Superman is wearing his costume and boots . His costume was always on him, unlike Batman who wears the suit.
I like it! Suit looks realistic and utilitarian and i like the somber tone of the photo.

The design is fine, David looks fine as Superman as well its the picture that is MEH. The muted colours of the picture and the style of it does not help at all.
David looks great, I just don't know who said okay for this to be a first look. Bad lighting, bad pose and that thing behind him maybe in camera but it looks very fake. A more classic Superman pose out in the sun would have been better.

I agree completely. I think David looks amazing, I just don't know why this was our first look. The lighting gives the impression of different colors and the pose isn't doing it any favors. I think I'd actually love the photo if it wasn't our introduction to him. As it stands I dig it, I just wanted something that would give us a better feel of how it will look on the finished product.

Question for Superman comic readers: Do they ever explain why Kryptonians look like humans?
Nope.
Yep. Kryptonians don't look like humans. Humans look like Kryptonians. Kryptonians are the MUCH older species. They had achieved space flight while humans were still running on their knuckles. Kryptonians aren't the only "human" looking aliens either. There were some that pre-date Kryptonians. The easiest answer is that Rao, the Kryptonian High God is also The Presence/the Source, which is also the Marvel deity One Above All which is the same as the Judeo-Christian God and God created beings in HIS image. Kryptonians were just put on a much more hostile world where they evolved differently but the same.
I don’t think the purple light has anything to do with the movie. I don’t think it’s ever gonna pan out to be anything. This is just a promotional picture and I think they just threw that in the background to show that he’s getting suited up to go fight the good fight, I think they overall just snapped a picture of him getting dressed on set and then Photoshop the rest in and James gun like the picture. It’s probably something else like that.
Maybe it's not something attacking but a ship leaving the earth and that is the thrust. Unlikely, I know, but still.
I like the look of the suit a lot, but not sure why they decided to have the first reveal be a pic of the suit all bunched up around the shoulders.
I still don't see any resemblance between Cavill and Corenswet. Wild to me.
Dean Cain's Clark painted his apartment in red, blue and yellow, even going so far as to repaint his fridge to match.
People are never satisfied. The best possible costume would still have half the fandom complaining.
I agree and 95% of the time all the complaints disappear once they see the movie.

Between this and The Batman it seems high collars are in for superheroes. Marvel 1602 has a lot of high collars in it. Coincidence? Probably.

Superman being a guy who just happens to have powers is exactly what Snyder done.
Snyder made him a God-like being first and not just a guy who happens to have powers. He clearly wanted to play into the Christ allegory when Supes was meant to be more of a Moses allegory.

I hate 52 version, i prefer classic design like Reeves, Cain and others without the lines and patterns. It is not bad but i prefer simple but will give it a chance. I never liked Cavill's suit either.

Costume looks good but the tone of the photo is off. This new Superman movie is supposed to be fun and optimistic, but the first image looks glum and world-weary. Why not Supes in the sky, sun shining, with a smile on his face?

I like the suit and David REALLY looks good as Superman, but I HATE James Gunn has Superman wearing the red underwear again. There’s a reason so many artists are getting rid of the old circus strongman trunks and tights, because they’re ridiculous, obsolete and out of date. Get rid of them and move forward!
Superman wears them for modesty. Even in the new My Adventures with Superman cartoon, Martha glanced down at the waist of Clark's suit and said something was missing and stuck him in the briefs. Remember, this is Superman, the most manly man to ever man. You can't put him in anything remotely skintight without a whole extra layer to preserve his modesty. That's why the circus strongmen wore them as well. You couldn't have Mr. Happy on display for the wives and kiddies.

Why did the new 52 do more bad than good? I’m a fairly new reader and have liked a lot of new 52 like suicide squad, justice league, super girl, cat woman. I can see that the art is kind of exploitive and superman feels pretty bland but I’d love to know why people don’t like it
Comic readers generally don't like change. I've certainly been guilty of that myself. Largely the dislike for the New52, at least as I've always interpreted it, stems from said disliking of change

Meh, had zero interest in the last Batman film. Got zero interest in this Superman film. They already had a good cast, and for me personally, I can only accept so many reboots.🤷🏻♂️
That suit looks horrible.
I will wait to decide if I want to see it in theaters or wait until streaming when the trailer drops, but just based off this image, it's a hard pass. I don't like the S at all. The collar on the suit is a no go for me. The trunks? Oh God.. hell no. The trunks is a horrible look on any character and I really dislike it. They need to move forward. The Cavill suits proved that Superman works without them. It is a shame they can't move forward and are stuck in the past. The texture of the suit doesn't look good either. I know he is sitting down, but it isn't flattering. Just so many problems with it over all.
All just opinions and I am sure will go crazy of how good they think it is, but it just isn't for me at all.

His face doesn’t look like superman to me but it’s only a still. Looks like he doesn’t fill the suit but again it’s one still. I think I’ve just always wanted John Byrne’s man of steel in live action and I have to accept I’m old and it ain’t happening ever

You can bend and roll over whatever you want, but the suit is still ugly and it looks like a copy of the GOTG Star lord suit with a cape. Looks like it's made out of cheap rubber and the pose with all the wrinkles on the shoulders doesn't help either.
