  • After creating custom icons for Amiga OS Workbench 1.3 off and on for the past few years, I've packaged them up and am sharing them with the world (finally). They can be downloaded here: amigalove.com/viewtopic.php?f...
    In the video I show you the various icons I designed specifically for "the forgotten OS" Workbench 1.3. I also briefly show how I did it (and how you can, too!), then explain how to take my icons and use them on your own vintage systems.

    Ever, ever loved the Amiga typical scanlines. A true Amiga collection should have at least a CRT for output. So true.

    I AmigaLove this video and the icons! If lovin' the blue is wrong, then I don't wanna be right! Amazing job on the icons themselves as well as the video. Mr. Kirk Duncan would be proud!

    This is truly fantastic work! Loved the video too. Im a 2.0 user but if someone would make WHDLoad work under 1.3 then I would completely switch everything to 1.3! Love 1.3 and no matter how much changing the colours to make 2.0 look like 1.3, it's never the same lol

    Nicely done. My A500 is all about 1.3. “Old blue” just gives me the warm fuzzies.

      @AmigaLove  Před 4 lety +3

      The 500 with 1.3 is the hands-down most compatible Amiga ever made. It was the "target audience" of developers, as it was the best-selling Amiga model of all time. For me personally, I'd never "upgrade" it to 2+.

    I remember February -29, 1978 very well. Almost a year after the Summer of Sam, blue and orange were all the rage. People wore blue and orange leisure suits and drove blue and orange Ford Pintos. But then disco died, and Reagan got elected, and the world moved on to the somber grays of Workbench 2.0 and we all lost a little bit of innocence.

      I drew it. But I'm sure I can find the pointer file (somewhere? I need to research that.) and send it your way. Or, I can take a closeup of my screen and you can copy it. However you want. Glad you like them! =)

    I'm not finished watching but this is so good. I am like you I like wb1.3.. That said I am using a classic WB 3.1 that had a wb 1.3 theme. I wonder if I can apply icons to that. I also use on coffin OS with Vampired a500 but I wish I could "theme" it to wb1.3. Maybe I'm a "fake" wb1.3 user.. Great video so far

      Thanks so much, Michael! I was a little nervous with this video as I act like a total dork in the beginning (trying to tap into the vibe of a dude named Kirk Duncan from 1990 on a weird AmiExpo video Amiga Bill uploaded last year). But whatever. It's all for us Amiga nerds anyhoo! WB 1.3 FTW =) If you manage to move my icons onto your (very cool sounding) environment, let me know! Would love to see that.

    8x8 or 16x16 icons are better as they don't take up to much space on your hard drive.

    • @AmigaLove
      @AmigaLove  Před 4 lety +1

      It's a very early Amiga 3000. They came from the factory with built-in KS ROM switchers where you could select either 1.3 or 2.04 on boot. Pretty damned cool.

    Geat Icon work! Love it!
    Using IconMaster for some days now, it is a very good tool. It only thing I could not find out is how to do proper „backfilled“ icons with it. Backfilled means that there is no secondary icon image but instead on klick the icon gets color-reversed by the system (like most of the Workbench 1.3 icons). Well that kinda works, but the IconMaster icons always have a square blue background whereas the original Workbench 1.3 icons are cutout to their image shape. I can apply this effect by loading the Icons into Workbench 1.3 IconEd, chose „Backfill“ from the menu and re-save the icon..
    But unfortunately the Workbench 1.3 IconEd tool can not handle oversized icons . So how do I achieve the backfill effect with IconMaster? Any help would be appreciated!

    • @AmigaLove
      @AmigaLove  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Ralf! Thanks for watching this old-ish video of mine. I'm glad you've found it useful and the fact you were inspired to try it out makes my day!
      Really interesting question you raise about the backfill. To be honest, I'd been making the 2nd state myself each time. But even the gigantic Iconmaster program icon does the backfill on the click-state as you describe, which is absolutely a massively oversized icon. Hm... Let me try to poke around later this week and see if I can dig anything up at all. You'd think if the Iconmaster icon can do it, it must be in there somewhere. (If that was done by hand - yeesh!)

    • @AmigaLove
      @AmigaLove  Před 2 lety +1

      (2nd reply) OK @ralf hasemann I figured it out! If you get into the drawing modes for an icon (let's say your secondary image) you can right-click on the screen and you'll get 1 option at the top for "Swap Colors". You can pick the option you like to create the backfill option you're looking for. Easy peasy! =)

      @@AmigaLove Wow - that was a quick reaction! I am stunned.
      First, thank you very much for you answer. In fact your video makes me aware of IconMaster and I started doing some icons by myself.
      But I think I wasn't able to describe the problem I am facing correctly. To not populate the comment section here with my rubbish, I will contact you by mail - I hope you don't mind.
