OPUS and DOPUS are still awesome.
I worked in a computer store that catered to Commodore computers in the early 90s.
I repaired the machines and helped with the software sales.
It drove me nuts trying to understand why they could or would not keep up with demand.
We sold everything on the day it arrived in the store. It was insane.
Software, hardware. All sold on the same day that they arrived.
If Commodore had better management, it could have been the leader in home computing.

I can't remember the name of the store at the moment, but I bought my Amiga 3000 there In the early 90s. It finally died sometime in the early 2000's, I got my first Internet experiences on that machine. Doug, you are going to LOVE 64Door!! And it really does simply work flawlessly on 1.3 machines. You can download it off Amigalove.com from the attached article down below (it's not on Aminet for some weird reason). If you use a 1200 or some other machine it may require you boot from floppy because there's some sort of mystery 1.3 library it seems to want. In 1.3 you can actually run it right off the hard drive, too, which is awesome.
It makes visiting Particles and all those amazing C64 BBSes a total dream.
Heck yeah keep one of your lovely A2K ladies 1.3. That'll keep her distinct from all the other space rocket Amigas you've got whenever you need that nostalgia fix.

I I used many productivity programs on the A500 and made a lot of money off it mainly doing terrain images and animation and raytracing (mostly for corps but I did a cover for a DnB single of a green crystal female face). So when ppl try to insist that the old OS (pre KS 2.0) wasn't very good I let them know how wrong they were. While I prefer KS 3 it is built upon the building block of the older systems.

Personally I've been tinkering around with grabbing things like my gmails for display on an Amiga or C64/128 but my solution is to use a Raspberry Pi to access the web, and a Python script that logs in, gets my data, and sends it over the serial port to a terminal program. I've managed to grab Twitter and RSS news feeds this way. Unfortunately that involves a lot of extra setup when it would be ideal for the Amiga to go do it all itself. :P

Your EndCLI thing is slightly wrong - you could hold down CTRL and press backstroke (next to delete key) and it would close the window.
I started out with 1.2 and therefore have a lot of love for it and 1.3 but for anything productive I use the latest now mainly for the ease of HD support. I can easily add an 80GB HD to a modern Amiga OS and with 1.3, it took me *ages* to get one working and even that was limited to something like 20MB. Not saying that *is* the upper limit, I know many had larger HDs but for an OS I'm not going to use a lot, didn't want a large amount of space sitting unused.
I lived in the CLI, so much that it actually took me a long time to start using DOpus. I was a late starter but still went back to CLI for some tasks. As for WShell, I wish I'd discovered that back then as it was KingCON that I always installed when I got my A1200.
Zoom-Daemon - because I got to know the Amiga very well I took advantage of the parameters you could specify with a window and took advantage of it. You can open a CONsole: window and specify ALT sizes with 2.0 which was used with great effect with ToolsDaemon.
Great video, very excited to watch :)

If you take a look at my latest video (Parceiro II) you can now use OS 1.3 with massive storage. My new Parceiro II has WB 1.3 with an 11GB drive I can use with modern PCs and Macs for transferring files back and forth. But I could also use that drive for basically anything. And WB 1.3, 2 and 3.1 all see it on the same device. It's crazy!

Great vid.. Still not found a definitive answer but is it only the NTSC 1080 monitors that have the rainbow logo rather than just the standard "Amiga" logo. I have a couple here (PAL) and both have standard, text only badges.

    • @AmigaLove
      @AmigaLove  Před 3 lety

Odd - every 1080 I own has the checkmark, which matches the A1000's case. I'm not sure about your question, though, since all of mine are NTSC.

@@AmigaLove Yeah, it's strange I wonder if it is an "NTSC" thing a bit like the PAL units having the Commodore logo on the A1000 case as well as the checkmark

@@rossb2006 Honestly no idea. I'm in the States, so maybe Google is tracking my Geolocation, but if I do an Incognito image search for "Amiga 1080" I only see checkmarked 1080s. That's all I've ever seen or known. The one tiny advantage the checkmark logo grants you is if you ever find the uber-rare Boing Ball version some of the original devs had, you can swap out the badges. I've got the boingball badge for the keyboard, but not the monitor. My search goes on! =)

Never liked the look of WB 2.x/3.x myself. Kickstart 1.4 is the most professional looking version though with better scroll gadgets on windows etc. All I really need now is somebody to point me to/how to write a Workbench 1.x hack with a background picture and copperlist palette swap every line (Dynamic Hi-res/PCHG pictures).I actually use such a picture I made on my Amiga via HAMconvert as my Windows 10 desktop :)

Great list there. Now I dont feel so stupid for not understanding how to close the CLI lol. All I did in 1.3 back in the way was play with the colours, make the mouse pointer look like a stealth fighter, and type up some homework in the default text editor. Oh and try and make "Say" sound like a girl for....erm....reasons.

Many years ago I got an Amiga 2000 that had this pointer as its default. Ever since then I've been drawing the same pointer on all of my Amigas. I love it. =)

Optical, mice have never felt as good as a mechanical mouse.. The best, fastest windows PC mouse feels more laggy and feels disconnected from the computer by comparison to an Amiga with old school mouse...

Amiga OS could do everything I need and it was less than two megabytes... Cannot wait for a modern phone or desktop OS that is only a few megabytes... Why not? Nothing useful is missing from Amiga OS... Modern OS attempts are bloated like crazy for no apparent reason...
