    Back in 2013 My wife was dealing with a local dealer to buy me a Rolex Submariner Oystersteel and yellow gold with a blue face and dial. 2 days before she was going to buy it I was in a fairly serious work accident that has left me with a permanent disability. I went from making $75,000 - $80,000 per year to $11,000 per year. I told her not to buy it as my kids and wife comes first. It was always her dream to buy me a Rolex. She recently passed away from cancer at 54 years old. She was still dreaming of buying me one even as she took her last breath. Now owning a Rolex just isn't important anymore. Hang on to what is important. Material things just are not important anymore.

    "Why has the Submariner dropped so much in price?" Because people came to their senses and realized paying nearly $20,000 for 300 meters of water resistance they'll never use was not a pro gamer move.

    • @ShaunKVideos
      @ShaunKVideos Před 10 měsíci +14

      You’re so off topic that it’s utterly ridiculous. It’s a perfectly made all around watch that you can wear with casual clothes or a suit that takes at least a year or two to acquire and that’s why people pay what they pay to get it now instead of later. Go into any authorized dealer, tell them you want a Submariner and they will laugh at you. It took me two years to acquire my Submariner Date black dial in steel and I proudly wear it. I will never sell it in general, let alone to the grey market leeches.

      @@mastodon5220, you really failed on your poor attempt at trolling. I’ve got three words for you, supply and demand. I stand by what I already had stated as they are all facts. How did it lose? The grey market got flooded with Submariners from scared broke people and that’s why the value dropped slightly. Do you think the value of the the Submariner will continue to go down? The answer is no. Will you ever buy a brand new 2023 Submariner below retail? The answer is no. Don’t be mad because you can’t get one. Case closed.

      @@ShaunKVideos so are a million other watches in the 10k price range that are not inflated to 20k so your argument that he is " so off topic" makes no sense. The Zenith pilot is only one example. The sub is definitely a well made watch, let's not pretend that it isn't. But the scarcity premium you're paying for here is the overhype surrounding its brand due to it's superb marketing. Rolex is amazing but let's not kid ourselves here 😂. At the end of the day we are talking about a mass produced stainless steel watch with a mostly unfinished movement for an inflated $20k. It's a phenomenal watch at $10k, but $20k? Cmon dude lol. If anyone is "way off topic" it's definitely you lol.

    • @ShaunKVideos
      @ShaunKVideos Před 10 měsíci +2

      @@steelsteez6118, who said anything about $20,000? Let’s get back to supply and demand again. People typically have to wait 1-2 years to acquire a Sub from an authorized dealer unless you spend hundreds of thousands dollars with them on jewelry. For people who don’t want to wait and want a newer one now, I don’t think $14k-15k is unreasonable.

    why do the prices drop? because it is a bubble and people are beginning to realise it or suspect it might burst soon. Selling something for twice the listing price was never gonna be a sustainable business. Sure some people might be willing to pay double, just to be able to wear a watch 2-3 years early but most who bought, were looking for profit.
    The biggest argument for this point is: If Rolex themselve would believe that ~14k is a sustainable price for a submariner - why wouldn't they charge it?

    • @RB-xv4si
      @RB-xv4si Před 8 měsíci

      That’s the grey market value/price for an unworn piece with box and paperwork. The original sale price by the AD is always the price set by Rolex. The ADs are not allowed to sell above Rolex’s set price.

I had 20K set aside, I just wanted something iconic, that will hold it's value and that i can pass on eventually. I had the model i wanted picked out. But when i found out all the hoops you have to go through, either get on a wait list or have to buy several other pieces before you're allowed to buy a Rolex, i got kinda tuened off. Just my experience, I've heard some people had better experiences but to me just wasmt worth it. Nice pieces for sure.

      Correct, I bought a Starbucks sub when I split with my wife, zero buying history so I bought second hand at about ,60% over MSRP and about 30% over what they sell for now.
      I didn't really care what somebody else (with AD "privileges") could buy one for or how much someone was making on it or how much I could potentially "lose" (I've lost nothing, I've still got the watch) and I still dont.
      I'd always wanted a Sub, then when they went Maxi case I really liked the Hulk colours but not the maxi case "heft", then when they did the 41mm case going back to slimmer lugs and the green ceramic bezel I was sold.

Even if you really like the Sub, tell me how it's better than the Black Bay...4x better if you go by cost? I will happily pay a premium for premium quality, but just for the logo? I think we're going to see a trend away from that and a movement toward more unique and thoughtful pieces.

    I have worn continuously since 1998 a Rolex Submariner 18K and SS with date and black dial. It is precious enough to me not immerse it in water but wash my hands quickly. Other than being cleaned and oiled every five years by my local watchmaker it has run continuously. Keeps chronometer time. About eight seconds over a month about a third of second a day. Was it worth $6,000 dollars new in the box in 1998 ? . I smile everyday at the Submariner it smiles back.

    Nonsense, DEALERS cannot protect the identites of sellers when a new buyer of used Patek registers for warranty, the system will reflect that the watch was transferred to new customer, so the SA will know if they check customer profiles in the system.
    Dealers CANNOT do anything to "protect" identity of sellers.
