You’re watching the weekly where you join us as we buy and sell luxury watches from our shop in the UK.
The first customer has a 2004 Rolex Submariner 16610 for sale. An initial offer of £6,500 has been put forward however we discover that the watch bracelet has been fully mirror polished. This means that we would need to refurbish the watch to add the brushed finish back before it could find a new home. With this in mind can we negotiate a new deal?
Josh’s customer is looking to take advantage of the current lower pricing in the steel sports watch market and has his eyes set on a Starbucks Submariner, reference 126610LV. He had spotted the watch in our exclusive deals WhatsApp group (the link to join is below in the description) before contacting Josh directly to secure the watch.
Harry is back in the studio and responding to your comments on the last video. We’ll discuss which sports Rolex, Omega or Breitling you could buy to sit alongside a Datejust 16233 in a two watch collection. Is patina something to get excited about or just a fancy word for damage in the vintage watch space? We’ll debate whether the pros of owning a modern watch outweigh the charm of vintage timepieces.
In the shop Jon is serving a gent with a rather stunning Rolex Day-Date 128238. This is the 36mm yellow gold model with a champagne diamond dial and president bracelet. The client wants a direct purchase even though the sale or return price is considerably higher. With some assistance from Jack, can the team negotiate the right price for the gold watch?
Hendo is in the studio, this time with two vintage yellow gold dive watches from Rolex. The watches are £15k apart in value and Hendo looks to explain why that is the case. The first one is a 1986 reference 16808 with a matte black nipple dial - which is quite unusual and rare to find. The other is a 1991 16618 which has had one owner from new and has been professionally refurbished to tidy up the appearance of the watch. We also get to see a Pro Hunter Sea-Dweller that Hendo is sporting on the wrist.

they've got to get it for the right price, if they have to put x amount in the watch to make their margins they're more than within their right to offer what they want to offer, some places may not buy the watch if it needs work but at least these guys give the courtesy to explain what needs doing to it and why the offer may not be what is expected.
They're working in a grey market in which prices change constantly, if they aren't careful they can get burned.

If you bought ten apples for £1 each, and sold them for £1.50, that's 50p you make on each apple. If you then went to buy another ten apples but the price of apples you could sell quickly enough not to hinder your business now cost you £1.10, would you just swallow that extra cost and only make 40p on each one, or would you pass it onto the customers and charge £1.60 to maintain the same level of profit? They're a business, not a charity. If you don't like the price, don't sell to them.

Whenever a customer is selling a watch you tell them you have to spend £200 getting the watch polished to get it in saleable condition. Yet with 20+ year old watches people want unpolished! So you are going round polishing watches which 20 years from now people would prefer to be unpolished! Why not offer the buyer the option to have it polished when they purchase it?

They've got VAT, a warranty and refurb cost to consider, plus the risk that there's an underlying issue with the watch, and that's before you get to overhead. Yes, the customer may be able to get more selling privately, in which case do it. But most don't want the hassle, which is why they sell to the trade.

If you are selling a watch to the trade today, you are going to take a hit compared to even 6 months ago. It all depends on your budget but many of the Rolex watches in their catalogue are starting to become available at the Authorised Dealer. I'd go along to your local one and introduce yourself, explain what you are looking for and what time frame and see if they have any suggestions. As a minimum you should start to get a pretty good idea as to what you want and its availability. But, before you pull the trigger check prices on the grey market. Some of these are now under retail. Keep in the back of your mind the difference between what you pay on the grey-market and what you would expect back is ~ 20%. Good Luck

If it's a present you'll probably want to go for something all steel and versatile so they can wear it as often as possible. An Explorer I isn't too hard to get from the AD and isn't too much more expensive on the grey market either. Another classic option is a Datejust with a jubilee bracelet/fluted bezel in a more neutral dial colour like Black, Blue, or White. If you really want to push for something more "special" then a Submariner or GMT is your best bet. Everything other than that is either probably too expensive to wear all the time and not be concerned about, or too flashy/dressy to be able to wear easily on any occasion. Happy hunting, sounds like a lovely idea you're planning. All the best!

Your channel is really fun to watch. And please, don’t waste your precious time with all these comments. If one likes to buy a watch , he or she should walk into your shop and get a great piece. I would ignore these timewasters. 😊😊😊😊🇩🇪

That’s an ugly watch anyway … tell the guy to go sell it on Chrono & absorb the shipping costs. He’s staring at 6,000 of your local little island currency tops.

"unworn condition", would it not be better just to say, "used but repolished"

If it was unworn it wouldn't have needed polishing
