This is an Ecells Five Star Ebike range test with liberal throttle use and running high speeds and high power most of the trip. This is currently my favorite 40 mph electric bike and we are entertained by the streets of Los Angeles and challenged by the long steep hills of the Santa Monica mountains where we visit Griffith park observatory, the Hollywood sign, skid row, downtown Los Angeles, south central LA, and more.

What a crazy ass place to live…
In a lot of this video he was downtown Los Angeles, so yeah, seedy and hectic like other big cities. I live in a suburb of L.A. (a humongous 502 square mile city) and it's nothing like that at all...very middle class neighborhood close to the Angeles National Forest. I just bought two Five Stars with one having been delivered yesterday. A very impressive machine that makes mince meat of the hills around here, of which there are many.

Love the videos! I Rode 42 miles the other day on one of our many rail trails in Ohio. Lectric XP 3.0 with 2 long range batteries, after the ride, still have power to spare.

Wired Freedom bike this one competes with just got updated and now includes a free 2nd rack battery for same $1999 price. Many other free updates/upgrades also including 4 piston calipers, and 203mm rotors, and 45 amp controller.
Yeah, you know Wired is scared of e-Cells when they start throwing in a whole free battery. That being said, that's definitely enough to make me still want a Freedom over an E-cells, at least if we're comparing $2k vs $2k. E-cells is still a superior bike if you've got the money for everything it can come with, though,

The e cell bike is pretty crappy with a frame that allows the battery to hit the shock, poor welds, and terrible cable management. The only meaningful option is the torque sensor, and no one has tried one yet. Much rather have a thru axle fork compared to a dual crown bolt on that limits your turn radius. The e cell bike is 1000 watts weaker and several mph slower. Wired is also a much better looking bike, particularly the new cruiser. Wired looks well made, e cells looks sloppy and rushed.
@@jfly2249 Sounds like you're comparing a new Wired to an old e-cells. The new e-cells bikes go 41-43 mph just like the Wired Freedom, and both bikes improved over time. And you're comparing the 1500W motor rating, to the 2400W Peak rating. They're basically using the same motor, same performance. Definitely not 1000 Watts weaker. I think in your haste to confirm your own bias against the e-cells bike, you chose not to compare Peak to Peak, but instead compared Rated to Peak.
I got me a cruiser and because I can pick it up it only cost me 2105$ after tax. Nobody can beat that and I'll get it in about 30 days or so. Ecells next batch isn't coming for 2months and I can't wait that long.
Keep in mind that you'll likely get even MORE range with the Dual Star using a battery blender than you will running two batteries separately like this.
When you connect batteries in parallel, you not only double the total capacity, allowing your bike to store more energy, but also majorly improve efficiency. Each battery handles a lighter load, reducing stress and improving performance, which minimizes energy lost as heat. Additionally, this setup decreases the "voltage sag", keeping the voltage more stable and ensuring more efficient use of the stored energy. So running two batteries in parallel can extend the bike's range by more than double compared to using just one battery. This is because the system is not only bigger in terms of energy capacity but also smarter in using that energy effectively.
Excellent comment. You should save your comment in a file so you can paste it whenever a second battery is being discussed. There's a lot of riders completely unaware about the MAJOR benefits of using a complete dual battery setup, including a balancer ("blender").

@@johns5504 They are, and the Wired bikes don't charge more for the second battery and blender/combiner. This now makes the Wired Freedom the least expensive 40+ MPH bike with dual blended batteries. I was rather surprised they did this.
The e cell bike is only getting 36-37mph in reviewer testing, as is expected from a controller pulling 1800 watts continuous. New Wired bikes go 41mph and have much better acceleration. Not even close. E cells is really a #2.

Must suck to be you. Worked overtime schilling for e cells and now they have a bike that’s not even close to competitive with the Wired bikes. What company wants to work with an influencer who tries to screw you in every hole? You won’t believe how much better the new model performs. It’s as much of an improvement as the original Wired Freedom was over the Kepler. But you will never know as you have never even ridden a Wired Freedom and are probably not getting one to review😂😂😂

Enjoy your 3 month wait for a bike that has 1000 fewer watts and is blown out of the water by the new Wired bikes. It’s also more expensive and doesn’t have a thru axle and the frame isn’t designed for such a big battery causing the rear shock to hit. I’d wait to see how they resolve this frame issue.

I will say, You definitely always need to have your batteries full charged & you should always have your GPS going so you know where you are at and where you are going and have a couple holders so you can take water with you!

Need to see the updated Wired Cruiser reviewed by you. It has a new controller, in frame battery, 2nd battery, updated motor and now full suspension. Same price.

Wired has a new proprietary 45 amp potted controller where e cells is using the old 40 amp KT controller. The Wired has 1000 (One Thousand) more watts! Not even in the same power category anymore, the Wired destroys the e cell clone on every dimension. E cells also doesn’t pay taxes, some kinda of sovereign citizen thing, and is not competing, they are committing a crime. Warranty is no good when the business is bankrupt and the owner is in jail.

Question! The website has a 24” tire and rims option, does this mean that they will swap out the 26” tires for 24”? Will that make the bike more accessible for a shorter rider?
yep, 24 " rims and it makes the bike 1" shorter to the ground comparing it to the 26" rims. itll reduce the top speed, and increase the acceleration (not torque) by a nominal amount.

Is the second battery you used the same battery off of the other "similar" looking bike from another brand?
Also, my rule of thumb is 1 mile per each amp hour no matter what riding style or conditions.

Still waiting for someone to do a comprehensive side by side comparison between this bike and the wired freedom. Same weight rider, head to head on flat ground and up hill, then riders switch bikes and do it all over again. Only then can we settle the debate of which is faster. My bet would be that they perform almost identically.
Not even close. The new Wired has a 45amp controller and has 1000 more peak watts. The new Wired bikes accelerate faster, have much better hill climbing, and are 4mph faster. The e cells performs the same as the old version Wired bikes because they have identical drive trains. All sorts of problems with e cells launch besides being underpowered by 1000 watts, real scum bag company with 0 ethics and no regard for the law.

@jfly2249 so far a lot of the reviews that I am now seeing on the 5 star and on the new wired freedom do seem to support what you are saying regarding g the top speed of the 5 star being about 4 mph lower than that of the freedom. It looks like 36-37 mph for the ecells throttle only and 40-41 or maybe even more for the wired. However, testing conditions can have a huge impact on speed ie temperature, wind direction and speed, the grade of the road, sometimes what seems flat may be slightly uphill or downhill. That's why a head to head test is the only way to really compare the 2 bikes. But from what is out there now, it does appear that the ecells performs like the origional wired freedom which has now been improved on at least twice since the original came out about 2 years or so ago.

I will add to the confusion, for even more money the Motor Goat v3 lives at a slightly higher plane of your choices. Slightly faster, with an optional second battery which gives a total of 45 Amp Hour of capacity. In about 2 months they will have an alternative second battery which boosts combined capacity to 75 Amp hour. It will have range that neither the Wired or eCells can match, as well as a higher top speed. But then, all of this has been changing month by month. Any of these bikes could add a higher capacity battery.
choose wired if you like wired as a brand, choose ecells for everything else.

Aww man you're going to love em brother. It's exactly like this bike, in terms of power, the power goats have a little more power. It's definitely got a tad bit more weight to it, but it's a cruiser, pedaling is not the first option. It's powerful man, powerful.

the route you were taking is definitely not the most efficient way to get to the hollywood sign. you shot farther east than needed.
for example, from your starting point you could have taken slauson to la brea. hitting downtown and skid row, you kind of overshot going outside the general direction, more east than necessary. then you kind of have to go more northwest, slightly double backing west again. i wouldn’t even hit downtown if possible. that way you can have one battery going to the sign and the other battery for returning… depending on how you manage to go through the uphill portion to the sign. 👍✌️

E-Cell actually uses this frame on its more expensive e-bikes with duel motors and has had it on the market for almost five years. In reality, Wired has copied ECells with a less expensive version of this frame.
