    Thanks for a pretty decent and honest review. Just a couple of things. Re the noise, this is from a well-known RW aircraft mag on C140 ownership - "Owners often complain about one 120/140 shortcoming: cabin noise. The cabin is small and the engine is nearby, with the exhaust dumped overboard very near the occupants’ feet. The results can be deafening-perhaps more so than in contemporary types. We’d consider an active noise-canceling headset mandatory (but we do, anyway)."
    That said, we are looking into replacing the sounds a little later which, of course, will be a free upgrade when the time comes.
    We are releasing the first upgrade hopefully this weekend, which will address most of the issues you raise in your video. We have also dropped the G1000 in favour of a GNS430, GTX328 and an S-Tec Autopilot. We think you will find the change more in keeping with the old girl and more user-friendly, should you wish to use it.
    The painter has been shot and we are burying them now in the back garden.
    The package has been tested by RW pilots with hours on type and the flight model has been given the green light.
    As said, hopefully, the revised package will be available this weekend from our site and probably a day or two later at the vendors.

      Great news! I do love the change on the modern avionics, more in keeping as you say! So excuse my first landing, that was on me being a dumbass focusing on talking too much, overall handling was lovely. Personally, I don't think the issue is with audio volume in the cockpit, it's the washed out, phasey character of the engine tone. There's a lack of bass frequencies, and definite phasing going on.

    When I learned to fly, in the late 1970s, we didn’t have headsets either. In the C150 I flew, we would drape the mic cord over a knee, to keep it handy, and we used those little yellow foam earplugs to dampen the very loud engine noise. Having the earplugs in could make it difficult to hear the cabin speaker in certain situations, so that was usually turned up pretty loud. What a tremendous difference today’s noise-cancelling headsets make. Nice review!

    Saw that stall coming as your airspeed bled off as you kept raising the nose. The bottom of that white arc is there for a reason. :-) Flaps aren't really effective on this plane. In these older planes with these older wing shapes stalls happen without much warning, particularly in the landing pattern or taking off. I know that from personal experience. C140s don't have stall horns normally.
    I'm very happy that it did stall when it did. Nice FDE modeling. Nice to see this plane isn't the typical forgiving flight model. I do hope they fix the sounds and the electrical system problem and I'll definitely buy this one, since I have time in 140s and have always very much liked this plane Much better visibility than my 11AC, and an electrical system!! :-)
    As for the paint, I think I've yet to see a C140 or Champ in real life where the paint stripes on the doors, etc, actually line up well with those on the fuselage.

    Thanks AvAngel for another great review. I did purchase this aircraft because of nostalgia - I started my flight training in the 1960's in this aircraft (it was known as the Killer-140 because it was prone to easily ground looping). Here is what I think.
    - Back in the 60's there was no headphones but the engine sound was for sure not this loud.
    - I agree that AH did a nice job in presenting this model.
    - I wrote AH with a number of issues - As per the manual you are supposed to be able to right click the center Com Radio knob to switch to Nav Radio settings - does not work.
    - The Master Switch above the Magnetos does nothing.
    - I do not see anyway of displaying the Altimatic Auto Pilot. or the HSI - the manual shows these options.
    - I would like to be able to use my own tail registration but cannot.
    - The lights above in the cabin are supposed to be able to be turned on - do not work.
    - The Nav Lights, Strobe Lights are almost non existent and the Beacon Light does not show up.
    - There is no Stall Horn - the Stall Light is suppose to show red but sometimes it does not - as I have been putting it through stalls and spins to see how it reacts.
    Other than all this I do like the aircraft, it does fly somewhat from what I remember.

  • @KatherineCracks
    @KatherineCracks Před 3 lety +2

    I was so excited to see a 140 in the sim. This is one of the aircraft my gran owned, she bought and sold many over the years she was flying but always kept hold of her 140. I remember her clearly she was white with red and had a red on white cockpit. I flew her many many times and just loved the simplicity of the plane. So I clicked this video eagerly. Early signs where great she looks beautiful, very accurate (though the g1000 is utterly unforgivable)and the sounds outside where really great, very accurate. What the hell was going on in the cockpit though! Yes it’s louder in there than a 172 with a headset but holy goddess not like that! It felt like they recorded the interior sound and added a hell of a lot of reverb and cranked the volume up insanely . Having flown that craft many times irl and having a bit of a love affair with it I can tell you that’s sound is ridiculous! The flight model seemed really good, yep she got up fast but smooth, climbed well enough - she’s no rocket but she’ll get you there. Though the carb heat was missing (benefit of the doubt maybe this is a fuel injected conversion as quite a few are) but the flight model in a stall was terrible. Now I’ve stalled this plane a lot, after getting my license gran encouraged me to learn to fly her as she was old school and taught you to fly by feel and on my few early runs I stalled, not ashamed to admit it. The thing is she does warn you, the engine sounds change, the wings quiver and you can feel all that through the yoke. No there’s no stall horn but this plane does talk to you. I find that a glaring omission in the flight model. I still like what they’ve done here but my love for this plane makes me judge it quite harshly. The sounds and the terrible inaccuracy on the edge of the flight window makes me think poorly of it. 6/10 but could easily be fixed in an update. Change those two things and you’d have an 9/10
    Great video Rachael, love you

    @WiltedSnausage207 Před 3 lety +1

    The sound is actually a mix of one of the FSX default aircraft (Extra 300 I think) and some lower quality sound. I had to turn the engine volume slider down to 13% to get it bearable without loosing ambient sounds, etc. My guess is they don't have anybody in-house that knows how to use the Wwise audio software. AH is a pretty good developer though, and I have no doubt that they'll update it over time. The positive note is that 3rd party aircraft devs are starting to figure out their way around the new sim, so hopefully the days of half assed addons are creeping away.

    Glad I didn’t pick it up, even though I have a lot of nostalgia for this as my grandfather used to take me up in his 120 (a 140 with no flaps and fewer electrics). You didn’t catch it but the directional arrows from the G1000 bleed through to the regular texture when it’s disabled, very strange. And folks on the MSFS forums mentioned that the battery dies after a short time flying, so there must be issues with electrical modeling. Too bad.

    OMG Thank You Avangel !! Finally someone who agrees with me on Aeroplane Heaven sounds. I stopped buying their aircraft long time ago, when I couldn't stand their engine sounds anymore and had to buy soundpacks or replace with freeware ones in FSX/P3D. These sounds are utterly immersion-breaking and besides a complete disconnect between the internal and external sounds, they are just trash and nowhere near representative of the real thing. The price is actually $29, but I will not even pay $5 for this. It is such a shame, as this is my ultimate favourite category of aircraft, but I simply will not waste my money.

  • @TheAirplaneDriver
    @TheAirplaneDriver Před 2 lety

    A few points to clarify - the pitot tube for the airspeed indicator is on the left wing, the venturi is for vacuum instruments such as directional gyro or artificial horizon (neither of which are in the panel as modeled). The turn indicator is electric in the 140. Landing light on the 140 is swing down style under the left wing not leading edge mounted as shown. The sound is not very realistic as you noted, but the 140 is very loud without headsets. Very loud. Carb heat is third knob from the left above the piano switches. Full flaps does not at all mean you cannot do a go around and the crash on landing was because your approach speed was too low. Also, if you are uncoordinated or in a bank, the plane will stall at a higher airspeed than “book” stall speed and it will absolutely drop a wing like that with little or no clues. Some 140’s had stall horns, some did not. I believe it was an option. Published approach speed is 70 mph. 65 or even 60 works too, but no less than 60.

    Have to agree with the thoughts on the sounds... I have my headphones turned to 30% master volume and the sounds on this plane are DEAFENING to me. But if I turn either my headphones or the sim volume down, I can't hear the ATC or anything else for that matter. Which is a shame, but I'm hoping they will fix it. I mentioned it to them on their Facebook page, asked if they could create a soundset with a lower volume, and they basically said that sound is subjective and can vary depending on one's setup (even though everyone I've heard from on this says the sounds are way too loud lol, but I understand they probably get a lot of "nitpicking" so might not trust criticism right away). They did say they will be taking a look at it in preparation for the next upgrade, so hopefully that means they are seriously considering lowering the volume. Fingers crossed! Thanks for another great video!

    5:22 The sounds are very loud. I dropped my volume to @12-16%. Although I'm fairly pleased with the aircraft, the sounds do really kill the immersion for me. The soundpack still uses the old FSX method instead of Wwise. I get it, there's a learning curve, so I'm pretty forgiving here, but what really got me is this statement from their product page: "Authentic stereo sound pack." The sounds, while they may have authentic sounds mixed in (Which seem to be fairly low quality), are based on the Extra 300 sounds from FSX. So, in other words, it's a mixed soundpack and far from what I would consider calling authentic. Overall, I'm not completely disappointed with the model, however I do not think it's currently worth the $29 USD they are asking. Perhaps in the future if they continue improving the aircraft..

    With the stall speed in knots, it should be even higher in miles/hour, but I guess the bottom of the white arc may be a bit higher in this version than in the real aircraft. As a wing can stall at any airspeed and any pitch, I wonder if the high angle of attack on your first approach exceeded the ‘critical angle of attack’ of the wing? Could explain the stall above the book speed.

So had to dumb it down to -77 on the R-Axis-z on my Saitek rudder pedals and it was confirmed by some one that commented that the rudder was way to much sensitive . Other than that i reckon you would like it , it is in KPH for speed and Metres for Height as Eastern European Countries do so maybe unless you good at maths might be an issue for IFR . It retails at £14.65 which i think is good and has a lot of very nice liveries . Keep up your video's as we like them :-) . Happy flying . Maybe better to buy it from simMarket: MSFS AIRCRAFT again im in no way connected as the Nemeth sim site is a bit funny to use , as in boxes that need to be filled don't always show up . Thank you ;-)

    I know what you mean about the paint. When I did my World Tour paint for the Just Flight Arrow III I re-adjusted the texture elements, saved and reloaded the livery in the sim's aircraft hangar until everything lined up as perfectly as possible. It didn't take that long either. If a developer can't put in that effort something ain't right. There is no excuse for sloppy paintwork in a payware aircraft. Not liking the cockpit sound either.
    It's a shame, because otherwise it seems to be a very nice aircraft and I love vintage planes. Hopefully they'll fix these issues. Of course now I'm worried about the quality of their upcoming DC-3, possibly one of the most important aircraft for me.

      I started my career doing texture artwork for flightsim stuff, first freeware repaints, then later I did work with a team to actually produce a few freeware aircraft and later on I did some bits for some payware companies before moving on in life, I do a lot of texture work day to day so i ALWAYS notice things most wouldn't XD
      And the DC3... mama want!

      @tb100 Před 3 lety

      Russel, I used to own and fly a Tiger Moth in real life and the Ant's model for FSX (even the freeware one) is very realistic. The Tiger Moth is a bad glider due to drag caused by all those wires and you have to add power frequently when landing. We used to prefer "wheelers" ie landing on the front wheels first, then stick forward (sounds wrong, right?) to keep the tail up (with lots of rudder-dancing) until the tail settles by itself, otherwise you'd do a ground loop very easily. Three-point landings are very difficult to do in real life and could easily damage the plane if done incorrectly.
