- Denny Hamlin won his second NASCAR Cup Series race of the 2024 season, but it didn't come without controversy and hurt feelings, including his own Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, Martin Truex Jr., who criticized him and called him out for jumping the restart and running him up the track. Interestingly, it's not the first time Truex called him out for doing something similar.
Truex wasn't the only one upset during the race. Austin Dillon, who has struggled all year, was angry and blasted his team for their bad strategy and not knowing what to do. His grandfather responded. Plus, Kyle Larson and Bubba Wallace got into a late incident, which resulted in the Hendrick Motorsports driver bringing up their past history.
Lastly, Kyle Busch provides an update on where he and Christopher Bell stand after their pit road confrontation the week before at Circuit of the Americas.

Nascar, just do your job, no more and no less during the race. If it's a rule in the book, call it if it happens before the end of the race. If no rules are broken, then throw the book at Denny Hamlin anyway he's due :) Nah, just be consistent. We ask year after year for Nascar to be consistent, and we get the same thing, chaos of understanding what Nascar is going to do or not do in every instance of where they get involved.

Denny rarely, if ever plays nice. MTJ appeared to lay back and that sealed the deal. IMHO Nascar needs to intercede in such cases. In drag racing terms, DH red lit(jumped the start) while MTJ snoozed on the line.
RC was spot on (to use a DBC term, that I am not crazy about), and the nepo Dillon boys should be given their pink slips. But that is never going to happen. RC has boxed himself in and has no exit strategy in Cup.
If Austin Hill or Jesse Love move up, they will outdo the Dillon Bros easily.
KFB on CBell is a veteran who is struggling with the sophomore slump, and he feels threatened by his former teammate.
Larson has every right to be upset with Bubba, being the class act that he is, he just let it go.
Spilt milk. Fatherhood teaches many lessons. Larson is still the phenom, and sees the big picture. Pick your battles.

The busch caution was ridiculous .
So was the Larson caution, he didn't hit anyone while crossing the track and made it back on the track without any damage. That cost Truex the race.

Kyle should focus on HIS objectives and what he thinks he might have going on finishing in the bottom of the pack almost every week and concede that bell should never be sorry for competing for a W every week like he has all season.
He earned that right from his years of success at JGR. RCR doesn't have it.

Imagine being Kyle Busch? He has no teammate. Dillion seems like a nice person but he is not talented enough for that ride and provides zero good feedback for setups. Busch needs a real teammate.

Huge bulls eye on the issues. At 379 starts Dillon should be able to give good feedback, but all we hear is blame & complain. He has made 18 crew chief changes & if he hasn't figured it out over 14 years, he never will. So it is like a one car team. They dont have enough feedback to find the setup. He needs to get out of the car & learn the business side.

Kyle Bush is frustrated at the performance of his team and car, C Bell in my opinion has always been very respectful and clean driver, yes he probably made a few mistakes at Austin, heck he ran over Larson but you don’t hear him raising hell. Austin Dillon can’t carry a mid pack car, it’s his grandfather’s car and sponsors he can do whatever he wants but I would like to see a blue collar driver get a shot if there is such a thing anymore. Hamlin was rolling in pretty fast, seems to me Martin should’ve been keeping up, yes Hamlin leaned on him but that’s the way most drivers will race you today for a win, lastly I hate it when the best car all night gets beat like that, I wish nascar would add some more laps to the overtime, say a 5 lap shootout, thank you for your videos.

AD should keep his mouth shut. If he wasn't the golden grandchild he'd be looking for a job. KB proved that last year, as did Tyler Reddick the year before that. AD's numbers are not what RCR is accustomed to historically.
MTJ should have known what Denny was going to do to him, he does it to everyone in his way for the win. MTJ should have tried to cross over and get under Denny and give him some of his own medicine.
And yes, Denny did jump the restart but for some odd reason, Nascar didn't say anything. Martin had every right to be pissed. I was a bit surprised at all his actions after the restart though.
I am amazed that drivers keep allowing Hamlin to constantly running then up the track and being forced to lift or being run into the wall. It is time the next driver who Denny gets on the inside of and starts running him into the wall to hold his line force Denny back down the track or cause a wreck because that is the only way Denny will ever stop doing that (of course a good talking to behind the hauler would probably also help but NASCAR would have and absolutele 💩fit if that happened and got out.)

RCR is a joke. If Kyle Busch is in the modern-day equivalent of an IROC competition. If the car can't unload in the top two-thirds of the field and run the race in the top half of the fiel. It's clearly the engineering staff that has no idea how to set the car up. Looks like they need Harry Hyde to come clean house because old man Childress has lost his edge.
They outta put Jeffrey Earnhardt in the 3. At least we know that car will have a decent driver. He finished 2nd the one and only time he got to drive it.
Yes, DH used MTj a lil bit on exit of 2, but if MTj wasn't sleeping on restart he would have a better entrance in 1 making DH exist of 2 harder. Larsen in 4th had to lift on his launch because MTj was sleeping or waiting, and Logano was waiting too. DH as leader launched a slight bit early, but it was MTj's race to lose. I cant stand DH, but people gotta calm down with this. This is such a non issue.

That caution was pretty "lucky" for Denny. Bubba did his boss a little favor. Crazy night for JGR for sure. Wish Denny wouldn't drive like he does, he's a great driver but it's hard to like him.

@@Icarealot88 Logano and Truex were holding back in the restart box to get an unfair jump in momentum and Hamlin seen that. He barely jumped the line by 5 feet. Give me a break. One thing stupid that NASCAR does is allow the 2nd place car come up side by side with the 1st place car on a restart. 1st place and 2nd place should not be tied at the line on a restart. It's unfair to the 1st place team TBH. Hamlin won off of pit road and should have a clear 1st place restart. When they got to the finish line to restart Truex was up beside him middle of the door in 2nd place where he should have been. Drop the BS "Denny jumped the restart" excuse.
Denny also DID NOT run Truex up the race track. Going around the corner Truex was down on top of Hamlin right up against him coming out of the corner. What is Hamlin supposed to do slow down and let him by? No he is racing for the win HELLO! He hammered down and tried to hold the corner. At the exit of the corner Hamlin going hard for the win actually nearly lost it as the rear started to wiggle. He was just seconds away from spinning that car. Good on him keeping it straight. Clearly you can see him wiggle and nearly lose it. That caused him to move up slightly yes, but still even then Truex had room. Whiny ass fans like you are something else. Making NASCAR soft. If it was your driver you wouldn't be saying shit. Just a bunch of Hamlin haters. Reminds me of the Busch haters and Earnhardt haters way back in the day. They were racing for the damn win. SMT data is available. NASCAR has used SMT data to justify penalties in the past (e.g. Chase Elliott in 2023). If Hamlin did not jump the restart, NASCAR should release the SMT data to vindicate Hamlin and justify their decision to not penalize him.
SMT doesn't show the restart line. SMT data on this issue is worthless

The SMT data can be pinned by time down to the millisecond. The cars location on the track can also be pinned by time. Combine the two and the cars position on the track in relation to the restart line can be determined at the exact moment the accelerator pedal was depressed.

Drivers do that all of the time. They play restart games constantly. Denny just didn't laid back, and went for it immediately. But maybe Truex was thinking that Denny would lay back at least a little, so he was going to lay back too. But it didn't go as he expected, and Denny took off.

Running the rain tires was awesome! There doesn't seem anything can be done about NASCAR's "consistent inconsistence" so there's no point thinking they will be & we'll have to put up with nonsense cautions. It's their game & they will do what they want when it comes to artificially creating the situation they want. As far as the final restart that's easy. NASCAR should have thrown a yellow immediately & had a restart after a warning to Hamlin. You have to do it in real time. Penalties post race like what happened to SVG at COTA are bs. So I'm glad they didn't do that at Richmond. It should have been done as it happened. All the other beatin' & bangin' is just racin'. I remember RC chiming in on Harvick's radio when he was complaining about something or other to do with the team but wasn't quite so nice about it as he was to the grandkid. And then there's Ty Gibbs who is a whining spoiled brat & that's all he'll ever be.
After reviewing the race I need to amend my comment. I see the last yellow was needed & wasn't the one I thought which was #8 hitting the fence. So they got that right anyway. But like most have said they should have thrown a yellow right away & did a review of the start. Although if they determined Hamlin didn't roll early I guess they'd have had mud in their eye. So maybe they were screwed either way on the last lap. It'll probably sort itself out through the season.
Racing on wet tires is better than racing on dry tires. Dry tires are just too hard.

I liked using the wet weather tires to get the race started and I hope they use them in the future, I am just not sure how that would work at Talladega lol. Kryle Busch is just upset because the equipment at RCR isn't as good as he had a JGR and he is looking for excuses. Kevin Harvick summed up Austin Dillion when he was racing for RCR, "Austin is nothing but a spoiled brat who has been fed everything from a silver spoon". Hamlin 100% jumped the restart on the overtime, NASCAR needs some balls to reel DH in.

Denny jumped the restart that's not in Question, Nascar watching a different race at restart that's not in Question either, because if they had of been Denny gets black flagged and Joey wins the race. Nascar did what nascar does, makes decisions that make loyal fans like myself not want to watch anymore. If I wanted to watch 100% scripted sports I'd watch WWE or whatever it's called this week. Nobody in that tower deserves to be there if they did this sort of nonsense would stop happening every week.

Bowman got fined last year for hitting Hamlin on a yellow. He didn't put him in the grass but Truex should be fined for hitting Hamlin just the same? And or Larson? I don't know. Just more of NASCAR's consistent inconsistency.

If KB is going to race CB a little harder he better pick up the pace, so far CB will blow right by him and, "adios!". Dillon had to be frustrated, he's out there cruising around 2 laps down for almost the whole race, not gaining anything, just slowly moving backwards. Almost same with KB, they both had the identical fastest lap time/speed, which was not competitive. Yes, Denny's technique is just what you described, if he gets inside you on the pass, he will move you up the track and let you decide, good move IMO.
Ok Kyle didn't check up,notice any flames coming out of Larson's exhaust NO! He did get loose but he caught it and scrubbed a little speed and bubba turned right instead of left and turned Larson on purpose. Bubba didn't let off until after he turned Larson just look at the flames coming out of his exhaust. That is what it looks like when someone gets out of it. The advantage for a late caution goes to Hamlin because everyone on pit road knows Hamlin has the better pit and his crew was the best all race long.thats the fact Jack. No caution 19 wins caution 11 has the advantage and the win. I saw that as soon as the yellow came out in favor of Hamlin. Look I don't care about the 11,19,5 or 23. Don't care about the 22. Just my opinion, I think RC is a POS. Don't know if he's always been one or has changed a lot in the last decade. When KB signed with him, I thought this might not be a long-term deal. I think KB has changed, for the better in the last few years. Now, RC's family is calling out the organization for what it is, a POS.
Wet weather tires were good. But the 18 lap caution was a waste of time. Red flag it, do what needs to be done and go back racing. Lastly, if we're going to Race OT, do it right. Denny jumped. So obvious, don't need SMT data to see that. And finally, if roles were reversed, Denny would be boo-who'in about it always happens to poor little ol' me. Martin deserves better. Denny has always been a cry baby and always will be, except when he's the Doer & not the Do'ee. Then it's AOK😅
I could see both Dillon AND Kyle a Busch being replaced next year. Childress will realize he made a mistake signing Kyle to a long term deal this year and cut his losses. It’s clear Kyle is past his prime.

No one is getting warned for that restart. It's a restart zone, note a restart line... It's always been a loose area of officiating because it would open up Pandora's box and cause a lot of issues such as the line rule at Dega, Atlanta, and Daytona.
Its not a soft box, theres literally a restart line and nascar has added more lines to the restart zone to make the zone more visible and make the line more definitive. It is not a soft box or a loose area.

RCR operates too far outside of the "NASCAR zone" around Charlotte to attract the top talent for engineers and pit crew. It's a long commute and a reportedly odd corporate culture.
And they've isolated themselves and get mad when drivers or crew members find a better job. Look at how they treated Tyler Creed
