Is this the hardest SLASH Guitar Riff? It's gotta be up there. đ©
Of course we are talking about Anastasia from the glorious Apocalyptic Love album. I'm still yet to see Slash & Myles together in concert. I always seem to miss them. Do me a favour and remind me next time they're touring? Thanks!
Have fun.

Everyone asking about my hat - it's The Austin Boater Hat from www.otheruk.com/spedspedding I scored it in a 75% off sale or something if I remember correctly. They have them all the time.

Great lesson, Sped! As usual. Thank you!
DUDE! You rock man! I really appreciate your lessons. keep it up!
Cheers Duane. Thanks for watching!
sick AF.....gotta jump on this lesson....you are just TOO cool mate.....thank you Sped
You legend Mike! Let me know how you get on with it. Have fun, most important thing! đ„
Thanks for sharing Sped!
My pleasure! đ€đ»
The moral lesson of that story isâŠ. He never had a hangovers since. đ€đŒ
Thanks again Sped the best!
True story, what a guy. He's had a hangover for everyone else on the planet at least once though. Haha.
You are my all time favorite slash teacher! Thank you so much for making your tutorials so fun and easy to follow. You have given me so many lightbulb moments on the songs Iâve needed a little something extra with [PLUS SO MUCH MORE WITH STORY TIMEđ€]
You are so welcome!
@@SpedSpedding can you do wicked stone or 30 years to life next?! đ€đ»
Hey Sped great video as always. Love the conspirators Myles a great singer. Great tone great hat lol. Nice breakdown. Hope all is good with you & Gab. Havenât left any comments in a while but you still have some of the best content around.
No problem, always nice to read a comment from you. Yeah we are good thanks. Have fun with this riff. Itâs relentless but a lot of fun. đ
Patreon here I come! I always enjoy all your content. You also seem to care a lot about what you do. Thanks! Cheers!
Much appreciated! I do indeed, glad it comes across and you enjoy it.
Loving this. That's my weekend sorted. Well... once I've dealt with all the other stuff that'll try and get in the way of the important work of focussing on this intro! ;)
Yesss Simon! Youâll definitely get time to play it this weekend. I have a feeling. đȘđ»đ
Awesome, will have a go !!
Have fun Steve!
Without a doubt one of my favourite teachers great humour and before I forget great guitarist always tune into his video lessons and just before the lesson starts great humour I for one rate him highly and top man
I love all your content, Sped. Personally, I'm not a fan of this song at all but it's great watching you break it down especially with your soothing voice, fabulous outfit and video staging. â€ïž
I appreciate that, thanks. Slash not your thing or just this song? I think it's an awesome tune.
Hey Sped!
This is an artist Iâve spent like virtually no time learning to play and yet they had so many great hits. Your playing is also so good man, refined to perfection as theyâd say ahah! Great lesson as always, Iâve spent the past week learning a much different song here and it was pretty challenging for me too, lots of quick chord changes, Jungle Love aka Steve Miller Band ( also much different than what Iâm usually playing but this was fun ). Anyway, thanks manâŠ. Let me stop rambling here đ€đ€Ł
I do that myself; Iâll know if somebody for absolutely years and never work on anything by them.
Stoked you enjoyed this, excited to know how you get on with.
Thanks!
Pleasure and thank you for the support. Means a lot!
Iâm all rit mateđŻ
Awesome as always Sped.
And yes I will get this down.
Great lick. And fantastic exercise to boot
Thanks for sharing đđđ
My pleasure man; have a good go at this and let me know how you get on!
Best teacher, and also with best humorđ
Hard not to love this. đ„°
I can't believe it's not that hard for me to do, I don't have the whole thing down yet. but I will. nice! thank you man. God bless you brođ
You're welcome! Have you never tried this before today?
im an older guy been teaching myself to play for a couple of years and not doing to bad, practice everyday you are a really good teacher. you teach at a good pace as well.which makes it easy to follow.
sick indeed.
The best kind. đđš
I tried this once a few months ago and felt like removing my fingers. This excellent video makes me want to try again. Great vid! Now, where did I put those fingersâŠ
Haha, dig them out of that drawer and letâs get back to it. Promise youâll get it this time.
Most likable person on the internet
Sped! Good job getting flagged by CZcams when you played with backing track. That means CZcams thought you were Slash playing!! đ€âźïž The way itâs played is reminiscent of Sweet Child OâMine.
I actually had a part where I talked about that in the lesson but it was getting too lengthy with too many deviations so I cut it out. But yeah he certainly has a style.
Beat me to it ^^^, I though of this when I first heard it. The acoustic intro is nice as well

Slash riff that I struggled the most is opening of "Welcome to the jungle" cause its constant string skipping
Iâve covered that on here. Proper monster.
Another excellent lesson!!! Hey where did you get that Bolero hat? Who makes it? I like it!!!!
Thank you! It's a pinned comment at the top now with an affiliate link. I scored it in a 75% off sale or something if I remember correctly. They have them all the time.
P.S. I still like you to do a "In The Evening" by Zep lesson....Please?
Impressive and you definitely play it better than I. Itâs a lot to remember, but I donât think itâs his hardest riff. Some of his riffs that are short and awkward give me the most trouble. Eg: the very start of âThe call of the Wildâ. Chances are Iâm probably not playing it correctly, but the small transition from the first riff to the more driving riff in the intro messes me up with the timing and the slightly muted notes. đ€Ż
Thatâs why I questioned it; I wanted the good people of CZcams to get involved as well. It makes for a brilliant exercise though; all 4 fingers and relentless picking. đȘđ»đ
It's really like a slow Malmsteen or Paginini lick.
Ha yeah it is! Also credit to this two for just how kind blowingly fast and accomplished they are.
Don't know whether I'm here for the comedy or the music. Both of the highest calibre our kid. Definitely a good exercise. Anyway I'm going to have to solder my switch, that there neck pickup doing nothing, but it is in middle position. đđžđ
That should be an easy fix for you! Iâm actually going to be doing a lot of soldering myself over the next week or so.
And thanks for watching, glad you liked the video. đ€©
@@SpedSpedding Stay strong!
This has nothing to do with this video, however I saw Robert Plant and Alison Krause. Lake Tahoe. What a class act ..it was actually Robert Plants Birthday. Here's my comment, Levee Breaks. (If you can get over the ripoff from Memphis Minnie) J.D. McPherson agrees with your version on your channel here. Alison Krause plays an ominous violin ....but towards the end J.D. kicks in and it's just like I learned from you. Cheers from CA USA
You need to change your name to "Sped Shredding " , or "Shred Spedding" because you seriously shred . You are also a killer instructor. Teaching a Slash riff seems pretty daunting. You do it with such ease and comfort. Amazing.
I love the Gibson . I have a 60's standard in Tri-burst . It's my favorite guitar . KEEP SHREDDING!! đ€âïž
Ha, my channel was originally called Shred with Sped for the play on words but Iâm not much of a ShredderâŠ. Yeah I can play âfastâ here and there but itâs not really what Iâm about. đ€đ»đ
Awesome Slash bio quote! I got SO tired of waking up hammered every day I slammed on the brakes on the booze!!! 2 months into iit
Iâve parked it too. Have the odd beer on social occasions but not like I used to. Never felt better.
@@SpedSpedding heya! Awesome! Didn't know that expression haha I like it (I'm French).
I'm still giving booze a wide berth for the time being, especially as I read the liver starts to REALLY regenerate after a 2 month mark.
Although techincally I have a brand new bottle of whisky right next to me collecting dust, so I'm not really a wino...
Anyway it's like I'm experimenting.
Awesome to know the great SLASH has great insights on this!
And now to learn to play Sweet Child o mine solo
Cheers mate!
Love your channel and your cheeky teaching style. Must ask a huge favor...I just discovered a song by Jeff Beck called "Hangman's Knee". Check it out, it is killer. But I can not find anyone that has a tutorial, nor any live footage to possibly glean some of what he is doing. Its nothing fast or flashy, just killer blues stuff. The main riff sounds like a part from Jack Bruce's bass off of "Politician" by Cream from Royal Albert Hall in 1968 farewell concert. Even if you do not elect to do a feature on it at least give it a listen, it is raunchy. A deep cut for sure.
đ
Please, could you show your chain, pedals amps, configuration⊠Id love to sound line this
Something is in the works!
I learned this a while back but just havin trouble stopping excess string noise any tips?
Yeah I talk about that in the lesson around 4:25? Did you miss that?
12:22 to 12:36 . PureSped. So RnR will NEVER die?!
Had the fan on and everything did I! đ
@@SpedSpedding Stages. Lights, Mane Exciters, Eye Liner ... Sped, very few have what were speaking of ... RnR presence. I am enjoying!
Jeeee-sus⊠ok thisâll keep me busy for the next month hunched over the fretboard, tongue poking out, concentration maxed out.. will it help if Iâm wearing sunglasses indoors? ⊠obscenely good lesson as always!!!
As we know, when playing anything by Slash, the fretboard doesnât make sense until you put your shades on. A bit boater hat will help with the timing too.
Don't Damn Me is Slash's hardest riff imo.
In your opinion who is the best guitarist ever???
Could never answer. There's a guitarist for every occasion... đ
What your hat name?
Pinned comment.
Right, I've got that, now how the f**k do I play it at 118bpm without making a mistake, like the man with the hat???
... piece of cake! ... my "20 year old self" nailed the first part quite competently. Then the second variation, slogged a bit, like I was living my "40 year old self" ... by the time I tackled the 3 variation, I was feeling my 60 year old brain, fogging up ... after that, I feel asleep! SIGH! ... I'll reboot my efforts tomorrow in order to try and get the second variation as snappy as the first ... each week, I'll revisit this riff and I figure by the time I am 80, I'll have nailed it down ... just like the lid on my coffin! ... but at least I'll be able to say, "I tried"!
Guarantee you will have this before your 80. Just take your time; memorise it all slow and then work it up with a click!
As our famous little green friend said: âDo or do not. There is no try.. â đđ»
@@SpedSpedding I am already integrating that pattern into my other soloing. It's pretty universal and fluid!
Locomotive...that one is hard?
Yeah there's definitely tricky parts in that song!
Can't believe sped thinks I need to be told to comment. He will be lucky if I don't comment
This is true. đ
Sounds like some paparoach - last resort song at the start đ
Haha, yeah that back and forth motion. Last Resort right?
@@SpedSpedding that's the one
song name?...
It comes up on screen during the demo and itâs in the description.
party every day.. whew.. nice! in 1881 they called it âconsumptionâ if your choice was consumption.. the known outcome was a short life. Certainly a much shorter life than those who chose sobriety. itâs just a choice.. we have to respect the choices of people and not have this judgment and expectation.. imo.. i love your story telling Sped.. itâs a great distraction.. perhaps you could play a ballad? Naw.. lol forget I said that.. weâre good!
Hahaha we all love a good ballad, no need to hold back. đ€đ»đ
Will You shut your little food gap about the subscribings?!
Yeah of course, send me ÂŁ2,000 and Iâll close the gap.
@@SpedSpedding hehehehehe
No...I don't think that is the hardest riff by Slash at all. The hardest one is the one on "Sweet Child of Mine" when he steps on the wah and goes into that explosive run from the 7th fret position to the 15th and 11th.... at the 3:00 min mark. czcams.com/video/1w7OgIMMRc4/video.html
Thatâs a hard section for sure. Iâve covered it recently. Youâll be able to see it close up. Iâd say thatâs more of a lick though, or a run from a solo rather than a riff.
@@SpedSpedding Oh...I did not know you covered it....I'll go find that one and watch it. Need to see how you do it. I think I am doing like Slash ....sliding up and down the E string a bit.
Oh.......wow...you did that fantastically! ..... Plus I learned once again that I was doing a couple of notes wrong ....which was actually making it even harder to play. I first learned it by watching someone who turned out to not know what he was doing, I guess. I never could figure out why I couldn't make it sound like Slash..... now I I know. Thanks!
Love your videos but I find it so funny and ironic how your such a Gibson and Jimmy Page fan yet your personality, wicked and dark sense of humor and the way you speak is so uncannily similar to Ritchie Blackmore đđ
Itâs because I lived in Richie Blackmoreâs basement for 10 years and Jimmy used to bring my water and guitar magazines. They were dark years. I treasure them.
@@SpedSpedding Thanks for replying Sped, would love to hear you do some Blackmore licks/songs at some point in time and Michael Schenker too đ
Came here from tiktok
Nice! Thank you. đđ»
Itâs hard but not Locomotive hard. That song is just unplayable.
Maybe Iâll shine some light on it. A hard riff is always relative to where a player is at though. Anastasia will be challenging to many. Iâve never been one to flex the simplicities of things as Iâve got better either. Thatâs the teacher in me.
yeah ive been trying to play that song for a while now
