Final Homestead Progress Before Snowfall | Cabin Post Holes & Outhouse Cribbing

- This might be the last of the "Fall" work!
The day after we poured the concrete base for the cabin post holes, we got 4 inches of snow! Thank goodness we insulated and tarped them.
Before even getting the holes done, we finished up the groundwork surrounding the outhouse. We installed a wooden box for cribbing to support the walls of the underground messy end of the outhouse. This is to keep the walls from caving in and allegedly encourage waste to compost into the gravel rather than build up. Many outhouses have to be moved at least every few years and we are hoping this method (recommended by neighbors and friends in Alaska) will help us keep it in one place longer!
Once that was finished, we focused on marking out the cabin perimeter and Levi got to work on the backhoe to get our post holes dug. Every single day was flying by the seat of our pants. It seems the weather forecast changes quickly here. The best way to tell what would be getting done that day was to look out the window.
The holes were dug so fast that we barely knew what to do with ourselves so we shot to town in the early morning and got the concrete and posts. With the help of Levi's Dad's concrete mixer, we also made quick work of pouring the flat bases for the posts to sit on.
The day after pouring the concrete, we received our first accumulating snowfall! Only time will tell whether this slows us down or shuts us down.
After some discussion, we have made SO much more progress this fall than we ever planned. We closed on our dream piece of Alaska on September 7th and by November 7th, we have so much done.
Stay tuned for some fun in the snow and as always THANK YOU for watching!

You two are rock stars. Hard to believe that you are almost ready to build.

Good start. Can't wait until spring.
Us too! Cabin kit is scheduled to deliver for some time in April while the road is still frozen but not yet muddy. 😍
Progress awesome. Can't wait to see that cabin come up out of the ground...lol 😊
Us too!
Awesome! Y'all are smart! Getting done what you can before deep cold and baby!
We are so grateful that snowfall and cold held off for so long! We had a -12 F day just last week though so the property is officially on a break.
I have to give Levi kudos for keeping the chain sharp. I can't tell you how many homesteaders I've seen that don't know how to sharpen a chainsaw chain. 👍👍 Can't wait to see your progress.
That's something his Dad drilled in him ages ago, definitely worth the extra work to keep them sharp!
Hey pretty Becca❤ you and Levi are getting a lot done!
You will be all set to go next spring!
Yes, we can't wait!
Levi I’m glad to see you much more comfortable in front of the camera. Y’all are going to do great. Thank you for taking us along.
He's a paid actor at this point. 😉
Waiting for the next video
You two should be proud of yourselves.😊
Amen, tools are meant to be used!
Thank you so much!
Y'all have made so much progress in a short time. If anyone can do it, you guys can 👍💪🙏👏👌
We're so happy with the progress too!
Good going getting stuff in the ground done before freeze up and too much snow!!
Every time I look at the snow outside, I am so grateful we got a lot done a few weeks ago!
You peeps must be in the best shape of your lives, inside and out!
I can't wait to be recovering from the little one so I can be more help though!
Your soil seems exceptional on the video. Looks like if you drop a seed on the ground it’s gonna take off. Way to hustle on those post holes!
It does seem like great soil! I am no expert on it though. Hopefully in the spring I can get a good garden started and get to saving on groceries!

Looks great!
Surprise nice fall weather too.
It was beautiful!
Great going you guys! You're set now for the build in the spring! 😊❤ Thanks for bringing us along for the ride!
Thank you so much for watching!
Great progress guys! It will be so cool to watch you build your cabin in the spring! Take care and see you next time!
I can't wait to start the build! The cabin is going to feel like an absolute palace when it's done!
Tools make it simple...use the tools
Absolutely!!
As least y'all were smart enough to hire a bulldozer to get a road in ! Se others struggling and duh !!! A plethora of Off Grid cabins in Alaska on CZcams......and I'm like why ??? Must like snow and mosquitos !! lol Happy in the South around family !
The mosquitos didn't bug us as much as we expected but we do love snow! We were so grateful to get the driveway in before winter!
Do you need to paint or treat the plywood to use it for the outhouse hole? Seems like it's gonna rot quick down there?
It is treated wood, there were mixed reviews about whether or not to use it but we didn't want it to rot right away either!
