  • I think it has to do with the impression of losing control, some will say for the snooping aspect. There should be a choice for those that want one.

Thanks for your informative video. I have always had Windows computers because of the flexibility of adding either hardware or software without much hassle or requiring a degree of computing to do it. I am actually thinking of getting rid of my password manager and using the one built in Edge. I kind of hate how Windows became a monopoly but every company tries to monopolize if given the opportunity.

I just don't require an MS account, and I hate being pushed into things I don't need or want. If I do stay with the Windows platform and update the computer, I will install Windows 10 and at some point if I need to install windows 11 I will just do an update from Windows 10, so no clean install and getting past the forced MS account.
If Linux was easier to use and had the software I required, I would certainly go to Linux.

Good question. I hear people complaining about it. However, I have a Google account sync for Chromebook, apple id for sync, and Microsoft. Great features from being an account holder

There are some users who don't want to have a Microsoft account and think Microsoft should not force people to have a Microsoft account to install or login to Windows

Those who are adverse to it don’t know what they’re missing. I find the forums, tutorials, and resources to be priceless. I’m gaining the knowledge through Microsoft Learn so I can get Certification in Enterprise and Cloud Computing which will increase my value to my employer and do something besides uneducated labor and all because my Microsoft account affords me these opportunities

Thank you for explaining this to me, for years I believed that the hardware and OS was mine and mine alone and your explanation is very helpful and clear to help me come to a conclusion about this. 😎 👍

Snooping is supposedly not a problem?
I have to contradict on this one: Snooping on anyone is a problem, as everyone should have the right to decide for themselves what they share with whom.
Still, I don't mind the idea of having a MS account, or an Apple ID (I actually have both) - I guess there is no way than to trust the suppliers of the technology that you use, at least to a certain extent.
Anyway, thank you for your informative videos!

I think I lean towards being neutral on feeling one way or another. I have a Microsoft account set up years ago by the tech I have used to help me set up. One bad thing; Now we don't choose to have a cell phone. If a person loses password you have to have a cell phone for them to send that special code sent to your phone by text I guess. If I sign out, I'm done!!!! I wouldn't be able to use my computer. Then there is the lock screen sign in. That isn't the same thing, right? because a while back I created the pin number for that but it included setting a password for that. But they send that special code to my email. So I'm good with that. Bottom line; I have a big problem with being able to sign into the Microsoft account. I really enjoy all your information posts. I try hard at keeping myself up to date on the basics. Thanks

Hej Gill I also have a Microsoft account and I mean you are logged in almost everywhere nowadays I also have a Chromebook that syncs nicely with my mobile great to have that feature there as well. But of course I also think that those who want a local account should be able to fix it easily when you do a clean installation of Windows. And as you also mentioned Gill, it will be a problem if you do not have an internet connection when you want to install Windows. But you are tracked more or less when you use the internet, but progress has been made in tracking also, for example, you do not have to be tracked from website to website. Great to have a Microsoft account where you can also see which Windows version I run serial numbers on my computer and other useful information about the computer you own. Take care Gill and have a very nice day and week.

I installed Windows 10 on 2 PCs and I would get a message to re-verify my account every week or two. Got tired of doing this and reinstalled the OS with a local account only.

Seems like the only way to truly own an OS is to design it from scratch.

I've had my account for 6 years and I see no problem with that
The account has more features then with a local account you don't get those features
I understand where Microsoft is going with this

Love your comments on the absurdity of misguided paranoia. I think even more absurd are those who get apolplectic just over the idea. I'm with you. If one is not engaging in illegal activities, what's to hide? Or, better as you say, who cares.

About the license thing, with old windows and linux you aren't tied to an online account therefore they cant do anything about it so you own it in that sense. with windows 11, you are tied to an online account so you dont own it period. huge difference.

I value your opinion and would like to ask a question.. I was given a Brand new in the Box ASUS desktop computer with Windows 10 Pro on it in December 2020.. I have yet to plug it in but thought I would set it up this week. What is Your opinion on what I should do? Should I just go on and plug it in and let it take those probably 50+ updates that are probably needed now or just not use this version of Windows 10 pro and get a up to date version? Not going to use a Microsoft account because they will want me to sync it with my other 3 computers which I don't want to do. But once they have your real name they have always put something I have on my others computer on it to tie them all together which I DO NOT want. I want this just to be a local account computer with the very least of Microsoft involved... Thanks...

Win 10 let's you opt out of creating a MS account by staying disconnected from the internet. Then you can make a local account.

    • @lukeb7954
      @lukeb7954 Před měsícem

It shouldn't take too long for it to update, but if you want to be instantly up to date you can create Windows 10 installation media and do a clean install of the latest version.

I think most people have a moral problem with it in the sense that when you need an internet connection for your "Windows experience" more data is being shared with Microsoft, whereas an local account would only sit on the computer having no back and forth between the computer and the servers over at Microsoft.

"MICROSOFT PROTECTS YOUR PRIVACY". .. Even "protects" me from my very own created documents which I would -- excuse me -- like to see on my screen.
And how does Microsoft get away with putting this message over a document that was sent to me? That is the question. I am unable to read the document due to Microsoft's obstruction, under the pretense of protecting me.
Microsoft is preventing me from doing my work on my computer.

I care about not having a MS account because then that means you own your computer. with a MS account you don't own your computer because the hardware is useless without an operating system. Requiring internet to install is absurd, when they take the servers down eventually then that means you wont be able to install windows 11.

Try getting an Apple device without an AppleID! Isn't AppleID an Apple "account"? I have had a Microsoft account for a long time. Not had a problem that I am aware of.
