It amazes me how my mind forgets so many of these things, but finding videos like yours reminds me what I keep forgetting day in and out. Thank you much.
I'm so glad!
Its great that Liron does not assume that people know about restore or backup options and actually shows it at the beginning when mucking about the OS.
DO NOT DO THIS.
There's a disk cleanup feature that achieves the same thing safely and avoids deleting temp files that are currently in use, for example.
Open an explorer window (Win-E)
Navigate to "This PC"
Right-click on your system disk (usually C:) and select "Properties"
Hit the "Disk cleanup" button in the "General" tab of the window that appears
A new window appears. Hit the "Clean up system files" button.
Disk cleanup goes away and thinks for a few seconds and shows a new version of the "Disk clean-up" window that includes more options.
Hit "OK".
This will delete all the unneeded crud far more safely than digging around in the file system yourself.
I just saw the video and to me it seems all the actions he describes are perfectly safe. Temporary files that are in use currently cannot be removed anyway and a popup will show so you can skip them. To me, cleaning out the prefetch folder and clearing the DNS cache don't seem like a way to regain much disk space. I would skip these steps personally.
However I do agree with you the disk cleanup utility is the fastest and easiest way to reclaim most disk space. This is the only method I use but also sometimes I clear out the Softwaredistribution\Download folder. Windows update will re-download these files anyway.
Btw, the disk cleanup utility is also mentioned in the video.
He does things which disk cleanup doesn’t do
What a relief to have straightforward, to the point instructions without senseless guff. 😃

@@LironSegev I can't delete windows.old?
Thank you so much!
I had trouble updating and uninstalling a certain game, yet my storage wasn't increasing until I have found out that the big sized patches and miscellaneous were actually in Temp.
Once again, you have my thanks. Subbed
Disk Cleanup does much of this automatically when you run it... It does leave a few things behind, but it is much better for people not sure about doing this stuff, or don't want to install third party stuff.
Yes, those temp files are used by programs, but as I like to say, sometimes they forget to pick up their toys when they're done. Then we need to do what you're describing.
haha good way of putting it. Also some developers are just really bad at coding so they leave a mess everywhere 😂

I think this is singlehandedly the most useful video on the internet.

Hi Liron, am thankful for your assisting us with much knowledge on computers. You should know that you have much following in Kenya..
I am saving this video to follow these steps again on a monthly basis (at least.) Disk cleanup freed 10GB from my hard drive! I kept pausing to follow your directions through the video because you were moving along quickly, but I appreciate you not dragging directions out to make the video longer. We have the pause and rewind ability at our fingertips afterall. :)
😂 Finally someone who gets it

Thanks for such a thorough explanation! I was going through the situation where running cleanmgr.exe didn't clear out all temporary files. So I searched and was able to come up with deleting the temp, %temp%, software distribution files, and prefetch files, before I discovered your channel, which helped even more!
From your first video I find your subjects so interesting and useful and educational. I immediately subscribed. More power to you
Excellent! First thing I did was empty the trash, then I did everything you suggested with you right there guiding me along. And must now empty it AGAIN with over 25,000 things in it. Wow - Thank You!
You can save time scrolling through a lot of files by doing this: If the file you are looking for begins with "s" press the keyboard "s" key and it will take you to all the files beginning with that letter. Then scroll down to the specific file and press "enter" to open it.
but if you're fast enough at typing, and you know some of the letters beyond s, like, say, sillystrings.txt....... if you can type si or sil or sill fast enough, you'll get to *the* file you're looking for.
If you don't have Liron's level of computer literacy, I highly recommend doing a *full image backup* in addition to setting a system restore point before starting this. It takes longer, but can fix almost anything that can go wrong. There's no guarantee that system restore will work in every situation.
@Sahil Bhandari My experience (20+ years) with system restore shows it to be unreliable, even in simple situations. To the point where I don't use it at all any more. Better to be safe.
I do a full system image backup every week just in case ..
@@paulwarner5395 Excellent idea!
@Sahil Bhandari Quoted from another commenter "Your advice is going to be helpful to most people, but it completely wrecks things for anybody using XBox Game Pass on PC in such a way that System Restore cannot help." Image backups are great for when restore points won't fix problems.
Wish I'd read this comment before I tried Liron's suggestions. I set a system restore beforehand, tried his suggestions and stuff started crashing. went for the restore and most of my apps, all of my saved bookmarks and passwords are now gone. Took me ages to just get my external bluetooth dongle to work again. I started working on this over 8 hours ago.... still not completely back to normal
Liron, I came upon your YT channel and am very glad I did. Your tips are amazing and so fast and easy to implement. My PC and laptops are running much smoother now. Thank you!

I've been using System Mechanic since 2008. I miss some of the older versions, especially the 2008 one. I especially miss the "gadgets" that Windows used to have and the SM gadget the software installed along with it, so you could see your system status at all times.
Great tips. You showed a lot of manual cleanup. Will System Mechanic do all of what you manually showed us here?
Very Very useful and helpful. Thank you for explaining everything slowly and step by step and efficiently.
You're an absolute legend, helped me out a lot with your easy to follow video.
Excellent tips. Thank you so much. Your explanations are easy to follow.
*Very* thorough explanations and an incredible compilation of extremely useful suggestions . . . you`re the best. I`ve been using iolo System Mechanic Pro for several years and their primary downside is *constant* attempts at up-selling.

Thank you for your feedback. You CAN turn off notifications by clicking on Settings (the gear icon) and checking or unchecking which notifications/alerts you’d like to see. This includes task notifications, updates, hints and tips, and desktop messaging. In addition to the notification preference for desktop communication, every email has an opt out link, which is strictly observed.
@@LironSegev Hey Liron, this comment is regarding your MTU settings vid from about a year ago but Ive found that CZcamsrs get better notifications on their newer content so Im commenting here instead: After following your directions, I determined I should be at 1495. So I jumped ahead one step & checked what the current setting was. It was set at 1500, so that was too big. How did that number get originally setup incorrectly, by the router maybe? SO, I tried to set it to 1495 w/the word WiFi within the parenthesis' as you showed. It told me the syntax was wrong. After 4-5 tries I typed in Wireless Network Connection instead and it processed further than it previously had telling me the parameters, but that the syntax was still incorrect. Bummer. I sent you an email with the screenshot. I appreciate your time. Thanks!
I purchased a copy of System Mechanic years ago and it maxed out my processor so I had to delete it. The version I had ran constantly in the background and my CPU fan was running constantly. When I deleted it my computer returned to normal. I don't know if the developers have addressed this issue but it made me so angry I never wanted to try it again.

Microsoft has been and always will give us craps that use up our hard drive. Thank you Liron for your best. You made my day Sir! Thank you!
I allocate 1gb as ramdisk and change cache/temp variable to Z:\ ramdisk. Once shut down, all cache/temp files are automatically deleted. Furthermore, it saves SSD life a little as all these files are not written on SSD and it also makes browser run faster when it needs to access cache files.
I did also using primocache.
I do this all the time especially after a drink on the work work laptops

I did have an issue with trying to purchase System Mechanic, they insisted that I upgrade and pay a monthly fee. My understanding was that initially there was a one time charge but the salesperson would not relent so I was forced to be abrupt and hang-up I uninstalled the program and will cancel the credit card payment. This is not an indictment of the product just the sales/tech person.

Jazakallahul Khairan brother 🌿it helped alot
However, there was one area that didn't see a performance boost: internet speed. Iolo claims that System Mechanic can speed up your PC's internet connection via its NetBooster feature, but I didn't see a significant improvement that couldn't be explained by normal fluctuations when I ran Speedtest by Ookla.
That's just what it's called sometimes.
If you ordered 100/100 internet speed from your ISP operator, you will have that speed and programs cannot change that speed.
Internet speed is set for your location / username by your ISP Operator and has nothing to do with your computer or devices.
Programs can change how the webpage opens, how the browser will use the Internet connection, ping optimization etc.
If you ordered Internet Speed 100/100 and the Speed Test shows only 90/80, yes, it is possible that such optimizations can help. When the Internet is not in use!
Of course Speed Test is done like this.
1) Turn off all devices from the modem (Wi-Fi and Cables)
When all devices are turned off...
2) Turn off the modem for at least 30 seconds ( power supply from the wall ).
A) Also restart your computer
3) Wait for the computer to boot into the OS and the modem to establish an Internet connection ( Lights on the modem ).
4) Now connect the computer and the modem with a cable. !Do not connect other devices!
5) Once your computer is connected to the Internet, open the Speed Test website and select your ISP Operator for the speed test.
Speedtest by Ookla will definitely have your ISP listed. This is the best internet speed test website as server distance is very important for accurate measurement.
If the internet speed is not the same as the one you ordered or almost the same, do the same test later or next day and if the difference is still very large, call your ISP operator. You can try speed test on another computer to be sure. A cable connection is required for accurate measurement.
If you cannot change the server, the internet speed test website is useless because the measurement will not be accurate.
Very useful info! Question -Wouldn't Disk Cleanup accomplish the same (by also selecting "System File Cleanup")?
I bought and tried System Mechanic. It seemed to work well enough, but I have removed it from my system due to constant pop-ups trying to get me to upgrade and constant spam mail from them also trying to get me to give them more money. I guess I should have expected as much. Save yourself some money and aggravation and pass on this great offer.

There's one more thing you can do to speed up your computer. Every browser, and most large programs, like Microsoft Office, use a software program to update the application, keeping it fresh and exciting. However, many updating programs run every hour of every day, regardless of whether there is an update. The programs are started by the Window scheduler. Simply and meticulously go through every entry looking for these hourly cycle hogs and change the setting to a once-a-day trigger. The browsers and large programs will still update to the latest version, but without interfering with your TV time, games, or actual work.
Can u tell me how to do it?
Okay how? Lol

Hi Lirov. Quick question.
Sometimes when I boot up my PC I get a black screen with a 9c error code in the bottom left.
Aparently this is an inability of the motherboard to get fully powered.
Using the reset button usually helps to boot the pc properly after I see the error.
I've searched for solutions online, but nothing I've tried has worked.
My Power Supply is powerful enough, and fairly recent, though my motherboard is over 6 years old.
Is this a sign I need to change it soon?
Do you have any in depth guide to troubleshoot it?
Could it be a shutdown software issue? Uncleared caches or something alike?
Already tried disconnecting all peripheral devices to see if any of them causes this.
Outstanding. Thanks!
Very welcome!
