    There is nothing better than budget stuff, and Sam has done a good job of keeping costs down.

    Sam needs to go to Donegal. Loads of green lanes up there and plenty of places to wild camp! We'll drag him up with us when we go later in the year!👍🏻

    Thanks for the video! As a suggestion, how about some tow straps and maybe a couple of traction boards in case you get stuck! Looks like a fun trip!

      I don't think @SamsMotors had planned on doing much in the way of off road on this trip. I have some recovery gear that I'll be carrying on my expedition next year.

    • @SamsMotors
      @SamsMotors Před měsícem

      This was more of a road tour Jerry and for the small amount of off roading we did it wasn't worth bringing all my recovery tackle with me. But yes, very fun indeed!

    Big toolbox and spares is always in the back of mine and has been mainly used to help other people. I would suggest spare front and rear height sensors as if one of these goes it’s a show stopper and they are quite delicate and exposed especially if you are off-roading.

    • @SamsMotors
      @SamsMotors Před měsícem

      One thing we didn't show is my X-Lifter X2 which has a special recovery mode which allows you to drive with a missing height sensor or similar. But yes air suspension components in general are definitely a good idea. I was considering putting in a spare rear air spring in the boot, but all four corners on mine are less than 2 years old and barring an unlucky puncture, are extremely unlikely to fail.

      @@SamsMotors wish the GAP tool had that feature. Will be packing a spare rear bag when I’m over in Ireland in August as I didn’t fit them when I did the fronts as they looked in good condition. Enjoy the rest of your trip!

    I reckon a dog guard would work well to allow a bit more stuff on the parcel shelf and be a safety item etc

    Great setup. Right now I've decided to switch from defender to my L322. I have few questions about setup.
    1. does roof top tent need roofrack? If I get just roofrack legs is it possible to attach them directly to the tent? Whats the total height with current setup ?
    2. Jackery anderson plug. What i understand it is directly connected to power panel in rear right arch ?
    3. spare tire - is it still in the boot ?
    As for navigation, for past years i've moved from garmin devices to android one with locus maps classic installed. Just get one of L322 dedicated phone mounts made by brodit and you will be set.

    • @SamsMotors
      @SamsMotors Před měsícem +1

      Roof rack isn't 100% necessary, as the tent can be fitted to cross bars. However the awning would be difficult to fit without a roof rack. Also the strength and rigidity of the roof rack is much more reassuring than 2 roof bars when you have ~75kg of tent and then ~200+kg of people on top of it.
      Yes the Anderson is run to the 100 amp feed to the rear power distribution panel via a fuse.
      Spare is still in the boot but as mentioned in the video it's the original / incorrect size so I need to get a replacement in the correct size and figure out how to carry it.

      As we were touring in a large and somewhat civillised country, water was thankfully freely available, so it doesn't make sense to lug gallons and gallons around with you. We just had a couple of 2 litre bottles + cold drinks, and were able to make use of campsite showers etc for most of the trip.

    Great editing as always Ben! what program do you use?

    • @Bensgarage
      @Bensgarage  Před měsícem +1

      I use Davinci Resolve from Black Magic, it’s a bit of pro software and it’s also totally free. There is a studio version for about €300, but I’ve never needed the extra functions. The free version is massively powerful and more than I could ever need. There is a bit of a learning curve and it does look very daunting to begin with, plenty of tutorials online and you’ll soon get the hang of it.

      @@exploringwithjacob8641 It is really good software once you get used to it, and it's the same as the pros use for editing films that hit the cinemas. The best bit of course is it's free.
