Exactly man, exactly. MJ was the greatest of the 90's, and Kobe took over by 1999/2000 when it came to great scoring Guards. There wasn't a thing Kobe couldn't do on a basketball court. Also, just like MJ, Kobe was the best perimeter defender of his era. Sure, there were some seasons where other guys were better defenders, but as far as consistency, and explosiveness on both sides of the ball, nobody touched Kobe Bryant in his era. Just think of the value of guys like Kobe and MJ to a team. They can score points, get a lot of assists, get steals, blocks, ect, and they can implant fear or doubt into opponents just by being on the court.

That game against the mavericks where he scored 62 in 3 qtrs (NBA record), the crazy context of that was that Dallas was the #1 seed that season and LAL were supposed to chump change. Kobe ended up outscoring the Mavs BY HIS'SELF! That put a dent in the Mavs armor cuz up to that point in the season DAL looked unstoppable. Lakers took the season split that year; LAL were surprisingly good against contenders, but would lose to scrub teams. Kobe was carrying and stomping the league that year avg 35+ppg (not even his best year IMO)...
Brian Shaw, assistant coach in LAL at the time, asked Kobe if he wanted to go back in the DAL game in 4th quarter sayin, "Kobe you can score 80+pts!" As the story goes KB looked at the score board and said "Nah, we don't need it. We're up. I'll get it next time." Shaw shrugged his head and couldn't understand why KB would turn down a golden opportunity to make history...
...then about month later he dropped 81 on Toronto #mambaRIP

Not having the first step of Jordan nor the huge hands to help control the ball forced him to shoot much more outside/contested shots.

@@kevoncox Just going to address your questions and assertions as you listed them.
      1. What I am talking about is that although Kobe was an elite caliber athlete MJ was a superior athlete we have easy metrics to look at for this information. Kobe Bryant had a 38 inch vertical leap very good however it is 10 inches lower than MJs recorded vertical leap of 48inches. Kobe was recorded as running the 40 yard dash at 4.3 seconds a very fast time however MJ was recorded as a freshman at UNC at 4.2 so although 40 yard dash isn't a perfect measurement of first step its the closest we have. In both categories Kobe was excellent MJ was just simply a superior athlete. I am honestly surprised to get an objection to that rather mundain statement.
      2. The assertion of applying pressure on other teams is rather ambiguous so not exactly sure what you are suggesting. I can say Kobe was a less efficient scorer and that MJ was the superior defender at least according to stats and accolades. I dont feel like listing them all but I can if you like.
So I'm curious what you mean by "applied pressure on other teams at all levels of the court and on all sides". If you can clarify that we can discuss that point's validity.

He also missed more shots than anyone else. "Difficult shots" are just "bad shots." Kobe is a very inefficient shooter that only sometimes goes on hot streaks. 44% field goal average. 40% playoff Field Goal average

“It seemed like even Jordan had some space between him and the person.” He did. Nobody talks about it, but the illegal defense rule back then made it way easier to iso and beat your man one on one. This was before they allowed zone defenses in the NBA. It was harder to score in Kobe’s era than in Jordan’s. All you have to do is look up team average ppg. Teams scored a lot less points per game and shot a lower fg% percentage.
