An underrated comedian is what Dr. Grande truly is.
So true 😅
I absolutely agree!!
Master of the deadpan comedy.
Why you say that?
13:00 and the end.
“One bad apple stepping on another”. It’s the dry, professional sounding delivery that always makes me laugh out loud.
“I don’t think she ended up in a landfill because it was fun. Landfills are notoriously disappointing as recreational facilities”
Dr. Grande's comedy is so awesome when it's paired with that deadpan delivery. I wonder how many times he can't help but break character and has to edit it out? 😁💜
Doc is a great dead pan!
@@lelia660 Yes, please share that info if you figure out which video it's on. I would love to see it!
@@MeganVictoriaKearns I don't think Dr. Grande laughs...at all.
As a Brit, I feel confident in saying you couldn't get a more upper middle class caper: a public school (ie: private school) educated major, a cunning plan, and a bloke called Tecquin Wittock. Great vid.
They should have just paid them the money with all the publicity they gave the show... The show greatly benefitted financially from this stunt.
Even Baldrick could construct a more cunning plan than this.
Brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "cough up the money!!"
Bad-dum-tissk
Absolutely priceless!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
sounds like thats where it originated from !!
He was never allowed to live this down - he ran crying from a store one day because all the customers started coughing at him.
Jack , that too funny 😂
@Brad James I have to be honest, I do kind of feel sorry for him. I have no idea why but I do.
@@jackspring7709 Because bullying somebody out of a store by mass coughing isn't in the spirit of rehabilitative justice. I don't see why he should be humiliated like that, and I think you're right to partly sympathize. People can always choose to express their disappointment in a more dignified manner.
@@Raakiszh not the public's duty to rehabilitate anyone.
They are both actually really nice and hardworking people. They hardly did anything that bad, who wouldn't try your best chance at it ? It's not like they lied about a hate crime or a hoax like jussie smollet or internet ppl, or sjws or attention seeker types.
And I wouldn't feel bad for a regular person getting 1 million pounds from a rich TV network.
Besides, the cougher actually knew every answer so would have won (!) He only didn't know one answer... And that was the Craig David pop song one. In a way he would have won..... It's all a game of chance anyway depends on the questions you get.
I think they deserved to win it and so what ... The entertainment alone they gave us for 21 years has been worth it, too
It's awful to harass them too , it's a friggin trivia game from a rich network ... It's not like they hurt anyone nor were criminals. And it wasn't a bad idea, they just took it too far and should have quit before the 500,000 dollar question I think...
Ah yes, “The Coughing Major” as he was referred to in the newspapers. Sounds like a great name for a pub.
It does.
It's a misnomer as, while Charles was a Major, he didn't actually do any coughing, it was done by Tecwen (and Diana, to a lesser extent)
sounds more like a cigarette brand
I can't imagine discussing this topic with a straight face. Great job sir. haha
I guess Charles had to "cough up" the money. Thanks for the humour Dr. Grande.
Someone had to say it😑
I fell out of my chair with that “one bad apple “ line Doc!
I remember taking my SAT test and someone wouldn't stop coughing. Really helped me.
Oh Dr. G! I teach high school kids and the other day I had my t-shirt on from your merch which says "I'm not diagnosing anyone etc etc." My student said " I love your shirt but it's grammatically incorrect!" I said "How so?" He said "Because it should say 'in a situation SUCH AS this' and not 'in a situation LIKE this' and you're the one who taught me that here in English class! Do I get 50 extra credit points?" I give them extra credit points if they catch me in a mistake! It keeps them on their toes and they stay engaged in class desperate to catch me in a mistake! You just helped a kid get an A in my class! LOL
Todd, you've got exactly the right style of delivery for these videos. Calm, credible and not a word wasted. Well done.
ITV made a documentary in 2003 about the scandal, hosted, ironically, by Martin Bashir, after the case had gone to trial. The episode itself had at this point never been aired, and the documentary drew extensively on footage from the show. In the last couple of years a mini-series called QUIZ was produced, all about the Millionaire scandal. Well worth a watch, even if only for Michael Sheen's brilliant portrayal of Chris Tarrant.
Where can I find this documentary?
Charles & Diana...that struck me funny. Good analysis & fun case. Thanks Dr G😊💛💛
I love that your show has morphed a bit to cover speculating on cases involving the law! I enjoy listening to True Crime stories - but ONLY if there is humor involved. Your sarcastic comments about the, "Coughing Conspiracy," literally had me laughing out loud! 🤣😂. Thank you!

I finally received your book in the mail! I'm only on page 10 and am already very concerned for Jenny and her choices!
I remember this playing out and the British public being shocked and tickled in equal measures over this! It was the sheer audacity of their obvious move, combined with the fact that he was an Officer and supposed to be a gentleman!
I was laughing during the entire video! You are hilarious, Dr. Grande, with your dry sense of humor while describing the most obvious nonsense and errors of perpetrators of crimes. This reminded me of what people try to do in casinos sometimes. Casinos have cameras and a very scrupulous eye for anything out of the ordinary among players. I think you are correct in saying people who think they are fooling others are really only fooling themselves.
Right? He keeps me hooked with his way with humor.
haha criminals can be so funny
I coughed the whole video...
I love trivia game shows and found out about this case several years ago. The documentary on it does a really great job showing how blatant the coughing was during filming. The camera pans to Diana when Charles is in the hotseat, and she looks livid - I'm sure she knew how terrible of an actor he was. The real GOAT is John Carpenter who won WWTBAM without even using a single lifeline :)
But Carpenter did use a phone a friend on the final question to phone his dad...
to say that he was gonna win

Dr Grande keep on surprising his viewers with his case studies... you never know what you're getting, but it's always well researched, entertaining and informative.Thank you very much indeed 💐
Entertaining and little informative, but the research is very basic. A few web links and no actual case study.
Brilliant. I compulsively watched the documentary on this scandal. Great critique Doc.
As usual a well balanced analysis of a case which I followed closely at the time and strangely enough came to the same conclusions. I love it when you analyse UK cases and refer to shows and TV I know so well. Thank you.
That's not fair that a convicted cheater would be allowed to be on other game-type shows. That should have been awarded to honest people.
The bad apple joke was good!
Agree, you CM are clueless.
Ridiculous how 3 people from the same family were allowed to compete on the same game show
Is it? With the way the show is set up and formulated, I don't see why that's an issue
This is covered to some extent in the three part UK mini-series Quiz, which is all about the Millionaire scandal and is a very good watch.
I don’t think the two were related to Tecwen.
I don’t think this scandal needed to go to court, they should of just not paid him for cheating.
Great analysis Dr Grande!!
Agreed completely. Just a tad overreacting imo.
"Should've"=/="Should Of". "Should've"="Should HAVE". "Of" never follows "should"/"would"/"could".
It’s still fraud and clearly he’s got a track record of it based on the insurance situation too…

I think Dr Grande, especially now as he covers so many cases on such a broad spectrum, would win the 1 million if he were ever a contestant on 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire?". No cheap coughing tricks required!
The logic on this is baffling.

Agree totally! He would REALLY excel if it was about cars, guns or alien lizard people! Those are his three main focuses of expertise. LOL
@@kkheflin3 *Was your comment sarcasm?*
I'm just now learning sarcasm.
I'm seriously asking.....
Written words are harder to tell but I even have trouble with sarcasm in a conversation.
Btw
It's because sarcasm is mean talk.
The opposite of truth or how someone truly feels.
I don't get it.
@@awaits2994 No it was a joke. If you had been here awhile you would know we all joke with Dr,. G about his knowledge of guns and cars. (Which is really incredible). The "alien people" are a joke also. In many cases where he discussess conspiracy theories he says his biggest fear is "alien lizard" people. THAT is sarcasm. Hope that clarifies it for you. You would have to have been here awhile to get that.

"Been here for a while" ...
So, the cool thing about CZcams channels are that they stick around.
This channel seems to have a lot of videos that have not been deleted so I can safely say most of what he has done is on his channel.
His propaganda is loved by YT so there is no threat his channel will have videos deleted.
"Been here a while" would have meant, I wasn't here for those few times he has referenced it in his videos and people doing the same in the comments of that video.
You can find what you're referencing just going through a few videos on 2x the speed.
These things were referenced a few times and maybe a few hundred old farts had a laugh about it in the comments.
Don't act like it's some big ol thAng we "new" people just aren't hip with.
That's why I thought it was sarcasm.... Because this guy and the few old people joke about it makes it a thAng to people like you.
That's the joke.
"Been here a while" pffft lady time doesn't exist when the content is still watchable and interactive.
Totally are guilty, Cheaters should be punished.
Your wit and humor is brilliant 👏
Courts don’t need to get involved in that nonsense
Relatively true. Never go overboard especially when violating the 8th amendment. Learn to take some forgiveness and move on.
The 32,000 pound question was the one that gave it away, in retrospect. He never heard of Craig David, yet still took the leap. Literally nobody would do that, they'd at least go for what they thought was the correct answer. Ingram wasn't helped by the fact that he thought A1 was the correct answer, and, when he requested the 50-50, the two remaining answers were A1 and Craig David!
Had the 50-50 left behind, say, Coldplay and Craig David, his decision to go with Craig David might've seemed more credible, since he'd be wagering on one of two artists he's never heard of. Strange twist of fate.
Thanks for doing this analysis, Dr. Grande!
Your dry sense of humor is funnier than John candy. It adds a highlight to your presentation that becomes very memorable.
Your dead pan delivery combined with your subtle sarcasm is sheer genious!
This is why the Houston Astros switched to using a buzzer taped under the shirt. Noise signals are a giveaway.
Another good analysis Dr.Grande ! Coughing conspirators! I never heard of this scandal before. 😮💨
They actually made a 3 episode miniseries (ie a movie broken into 3 parts) of this case called “The Quiz”. What was odd is that the filmmakers deliberately made it look ambiguous as to whether the trio were actually guilty, leading some viewers to speculate they might be innocent.
Really irritating as they’re clearly guilty.
I would love to see that. Do you know where it was by any chance?
I havent seen the 2020 movie version but there’s a nice documentary called ‘Major Fraud’ which covers it well.
@@kkheflin3 I’ve commented 4 times where I have seen it and CZcams keeps deleting my comment.
'The Quiz' ITV three part drama was great. Michael Sheen was convincing as Tarrant and the woman playing the wife was her double.

Morning Dr. Grande, curious about shows not familiar with-remember “Let’s Make a Deal” from long ago? Thank you for your soothing post.
My sister in law won 3 rooms full of furniture on LMAD in the 90's - all good quality 🤗
That final thoughts segment was *golden,* happy holidays to you and your family Dr. Grande!
I'm glad the television company refused to cough up the million.
😂🤣
Pun aside, they simply withheld the episode. Game show winnings are conditional on the recording actually being broadcast, which these episodes never were, therefore no money needed to change hands. The real losers were the honest contestants prior to Charles in his first episode, who probably didn't see their money either. I hope they were all given another crack.
@@peteb1206 No, I bet they were given any would-be winnings. It’s a drop in the ocean for the production company to avoid bad publicity. Furthermore, their performances easily could have been shown. Just because they were filmed with Ingram’s performance doesn’t mean they had to be shown with it. Very easy editing could have cut him and Whitlock out of their scenes.
I read about this case. Crazy! Thank you as always my favorite doctor.☕❤️
Great case analysis!! I came across this case years ago surfing the youtubes late at night!. Very interesting
A teacher from my old school was the most recent £1 million winner on it. :-)
I remember this when it happened here in the UK. Once it came to light, ITV showed it again and the adverts at the break were for Benylin cough mixture

He could've gotten away with 50,000 or even 100,000 pounds. 1 million just brought them more attention and scrutiny than they needed.
Exactly, greed got the better of them

Loved the ".... which has to be one of the most unoriginal game-show names, ever." And the little rant that followed after. 😂

Have a wonderful 2022
There’s an episode on Family Matters where Eddy convinces Steve to help him cheat on a test. Eddy told Steve to cough or sneeze to help him identify the answers. But the next day Steve developed a cold so their plan backfired. I can’t believe people in real life would do this! Sounds like an episode from a 90s sitcom.
Michael Larson, famous for “cheating” on Press Your Luck, would also make a good video. Kind of a game show theme week.
He didn't really cheat though. He just studied the game extensively and knew exactly when to press in to win. He followed all the rules. The show should've taken the onus to make it more unpredictable
Yup, he didn't cheat, he found a loophole which allowed him to win easily.
I never think, "Ah, I'll click on this Dr. Grande episode..." and then I do click and can't stop watching it!!! Hooked! 😆
Ty doc. I've wondered and didn't know how to word the request
I watched staff telling how they became increasingly disturbed at the coughing that occurred during the quiz. They were concerned enough to discuss it amongst themselves and speaking to the Director & Producer. They listened back to various segments, decided to withhold the cheque from Ingram and call in Police. This sent a clear message, to all future participants, that cheating would end up in criminal charges and public disgrace.
This was actually a very big thing way back in the day. I did enjoy watching this show but I think I missed this episode. Because of all the hype this "incident" received I always got the feeling that it kind of paved the way for shows like Gerry Springer and Jeremy Kyle to be as big as they got here in the UK. At least I think this happened before they started. Anyway, great analysis. Greetings from the UK 🇬🇧✌❤
You missed the episode because they never aired it.
@@LisaPFrampton I think they did air it on british tv.... I could be wrong tho
@@inconceivabledark It wasn't shown at the time, as producers pulled the show when they began to suspect something fishy was going on. Not sure if the episode has ever been shown in its entirety.

What I can’t wrap my head around is how the cougher happened to know the answers. If he was so knowledgeable, then he should have been in the Hot Seat himself, and would have had no need for cheating.
He lost the fastest finger first portion that would lead him to the hot seat
@Brad James exactly.

Good day, Dr. Grande. Just caught you. Finally I'm on time.
I remember this when it happened here in the U.K. You'd think the one thing the production staff would be listening for during the questions, is obvious noises from the audience.

I feel kind of bad about chuckling at him slipping on a rotten apple… but I’m still laughing.
Yes! I've been waiting for this. Suggested it a couple times too.
I enjoy your dry humor and information.
I remember watching the documentary ITV did years ago. What sealed it for me was when they played a recording of the phone call they made to Ingram after the show. The Producer tells him they are stopping the payment because of "irregularities " (the actual word they used) and Charles Ingram replies "well naturally I refute the allegations ".
What allegations? They hadn't made any, they just said irregularities.
He knew what they meant. If he was innocent why didn't he say "where's my money?" "What are you talking about?" Or something like that.
No he didn't put up any objections. The guy was guilty.
he was a bit too calm. If I knew I won fair and square I would be threatening the company with a legal suit and exposure in the media as welching on the game. Look at these online gamers who are denied their winnings - they don't take it on the chin.

I think they needed too go to court, a million dollars is not something to be "coughed "about, but seriously if one person, gets away with it, how many more will follow. It took the life-line quite a while to come up with an answer and just at the last few seconds you could hear the life-line say, "It says such and such" which was the correct answer. I got the impression from the way the life-line phrased his answer was because he had been looking up the answer on the Internet and was reading what he had found on his computer screen. Always excellent work Dr Grande! Can you pls analyze the case of Patricia Ripley from Miami ! Would love to hear your take on that !! Thank you and happy holidays!
It amazes me how anyone can watch the footage and think that he didn't cheat. I don't even need the coughing, just the fact that he clearly didn't know the answers to the question and yet he kept on guessing, even when it would have meant hundreds of thousands of pounds lost. And by some miracle, he kept getting it right. Something was clearly going on there because no one behaves that way and gets that lucky at the same time. The coughing provides the explanation of what that something was.

I absolutely believe they cheated. That said, on the last question I've done stranger than that.
