I went to high school with "Dhar Mann" and have seen his progression since that time. All I can say is that every time I see someone posting his videos I cringe. He's maybe the fakest person I've ever known in my life. Always has been about false appearances. To me, he'll always be the high school bathroom weed dealer.

I noticed my 11 year old sister started consuming his content at an alarming rate last year. I happened to watch a few videos with her on visits ti my parents’ house and the cringe was beyond anything a reasonable person could be expected to withstand. I took special exception to how he depicted women (read: gold diggers who’ll get what’s coming to them, even the little girls) but I figured I wouldn’t ruin it for her because she’s just a kid.
I then started to realize that he makes this content for a predominantly younger audience with the aim of informing morality, and that because she’s a child, she may not realize that it’s utter garbage and start to base her world view on what she was seeing being depicted on the screen. Eventually I sat her down and essentially told her that life doesn’t work remotely how he depicts it to, that people and situations are more nuanced, and recommended that she continued watching for entertainment purposes and not through the lens of trying to make sense of real world situations and human interaction. I don’t live with her, so I can’t be sure, but I sincerely hope she took my words to heart and doesn’t watch his videos as much anymore.

“Why are so many people fascinated with this unsophisticated view of morality, what does it say about the current culture?”- That’s a profound question that makes us reflect on people’s thinking abilities. I believe that apart from the fact that many of us tend to act by emotions as it is, very few people actively seek ways to have a better understanding of life. Reading, writing and conducting respectful debate are being replaced with fast and superficial information paired with knee-jerk reactions that only highlight our immaturity and lack of critical thinking skills. Unfortunately, that’s a sad reality.

Instant gratification appeals to short attention spans. There's no instant gratification in reading, writing, and respectful debate. It requires much less mental work to take a side with a character in a brief clip.
I guess that shouldn't surprise me because that's a recurring theme in humanity. And this Dhar dude clearly knows there will always be an audience for this infantilizing straw-man justice type of crap. But just seeing this guy brazenly exploiting the classic formula is insulting enough that I refuse to even click where I see him. I'll give clicks to people like Dr. Grande and others because there's underlying knowledge/qualification/talent that contributes to an ongoing dialogue. And a cohesive raison d'être that goes beyond appealing to the lizard brain with flashy production and easily digestible one-off scenarios. His popularity speaks to a massive gap in information literacy.

I think what makes Dhar Mann's videos so popular and easy to like is that they're unrealistically fair. Unrealistic, but fair, which life is unfortunately not to a lot of people. People don't immediately change after learning a lesson, let alone even learn the lesson in the first place. The assholes sometimes don't get what they deserve, the poor sometimes don't rise up from their poverty, the innocent sometimes get into tragedies for no reason whatsoever.
Dhar Mann's videos don't reflect that, but instead paints a perfect world where everyone gets what they deserve, consequences always happen, and lessons are always learned.

I stopped watching a long time ago, and commented on how adoption doesn't work the way he portrayed it in his videos. I also wrote a negative comment on how he baits the viewers by asking them to choose a title, then chooses what he wants anyway. My comments were not well received by The Mann Team". He posted how he honored an actor who die by visiting the family on anniversary of actor's death. I could see how DM was rooting his own horn. Also, he featured a photo of he and his partner in Paris. Viewers showered him with comments about the happiness of their marriage, allowing viewers to think "the couple" with two kids and a house together are husband and wife when, in reality, they are not. To me, it's all willful deception. Lies seem to come in many forms from DM,. He seems to capitalize on showcasing his wealth and status to impress those viewers he knows qre not as well off. I agree with Dr. Grande that most of what DM produces and posts is far from the truth of reality. Sad facts indeed about DM's criminal history. Now that I know, I don't regret speaking up about him nor even against his more recent posted activities whose values seem "off" and IMO are noticably misaligned.

Out of curiosity, I watched a few videos. The 1st was completely inane and unengaging; the second, actually painful to watch - the actors also seemed to be in pain; the third- much different (surprisingly, especially after the awfulness of the first two videos I watched- I must have stumbled across the only half-decent video he’s ever made!). But what really struck me was the comments- teenagers (the comments are clearly not written by adults, and adults are not his target audience anyway) are falling all over themselves, thanking him for changing their lives and really believe he’s a decent person trying to help them. The fawning is intense. My concern is the same as Dr. Grande’s- things do NOT work like this in real life- but the stories are presented as real-life situations. Things are never as obvious or as easily resolved in real life. If teenagers buy into the idea this his videos represent real-life situations, and the “bad guys” always get what they deserve, Dhar Mann is setting these kids up to be unprepared for the real world, and may end up making them vulnerable and naive- the opposite of what he claims to do. Maybe if every video didn’t end this way every time, I could see it- a little. But his “happy endings” (bad people getting what they deserve) - this basically never happens in real life, period. Life does NOT work that way.
Also… it’s a bit disturbing, based on the comments, that teens are saying they are actually learning from his videos. Everything he presents are things kids should know and understand by the time they are teenagers. Where are these kids parents..? Yikes.

@@mindisflowershop2017 : Um… did you actually watch this video? Did you read my entire comment? Your reply is missing the mark. My biggest concern is NOT the videos- it’s the comments left by his teenage audience. As I stated above, these ‘super grateful’ comments show that something is amiss in these kids’ lives. What the videos present are all things any kid old enough to write a comment should already have been taught, or understand. But clearly, that is not the case. Their parents and families should be instilling these basic moral values, respectful behavior, and consequences in their children. Not Dhar Mann.
Just because kids could be watching other, less appropriate videos, does not make these videos OK by comparison. Two bad things, with one being slightly better than the other, is still two bad things. These type of videos present a false narrative of how the world works- to growing, learning - and vulnerable - young people. That is NOT a good thing. If you still don’t get that, then read some of the comments on his videos. It’s disturbing.

On second thought, videos like these can be thought of as a type of modern fairy tale. As such, they are subject to fairy tale rules - the bad guy or gal, the one creates the injustice, gets their comeuppance quickly and definitively. These would not necessarily create the kind of issue Dr. Grande raises, in which the viewer expects the rational world to operate in the same way, because on a basic level, the non-rational world in which the fairy tale operates is understood. If a young girl and her grandmother went missing in the rational world, no one would think that having a wood-cutter chop open the nearest wolf would bring them back to life, but in some versions of Little Red Riding Hood that's exactly what happens. Cartoons tend to operate in this non-rational reality, as well. If Wyle E. Coyote drops an anvil off of a cliff, it's perfectly natural in his non-rational world that the anvil would be intercepted by a series of obstructions and circumstances that would make Rube Goldberg proud and end up landing on his head. In our rational world, not even a child would expect that to happen - if a person dropped a rock out of a window, someone else would get hurt and the perpetrator might never even be caught. What cartoon and fairy tale morality drives home, however, is the feeling that that person should be caught. That's a feeling that all of us living in the rational world can get behind.

Anyway what do you think about the Elizabeth Holmes case. That's what she gets scamming investors and especially patients out of millions of dollars. If George Bush can become President since he's a Rhodes scholar from Yale then I guess anything's possible with Elizabeth Holmes and her Theranos BS plus Dhar Mann's videos with CRINGE OVERACTED REHASHED STORYLINES 😂. This has nothing to do with the video but please listen if you want to otherwise leave it alone and ignore it. Hello my name is Justin and I'm a Christian and Apologist but I'm also a college student. I'm not a closed minded Theist as I have nothing against Atheists or unbelievers as I speak to them often to understand their reasons for unbelief but we as Christians are convinced of God's Existence due to many real factors). I'm not trying to convert anyone or convince anyone to become Christians as that's The Holy Spirit's job to help people believe but only explain why I believe in Jesus Christ. There's actually evidence of God's Existence in Christianity. First of all there's proof that Jesus of Nazareth existed in history since the writings of Tacitus, Josephus Flavius, Pliny the younger and other historical documents prove that He was living two thousand years ago that even scholars both religious and Atheists agree with historically speaking but not that He's The Divine Son of God because obviously they don't.
I'm going to give you historical and archeological evidence for God's Existence as The Scriptures have prophecies that predate the events recorded in them by several millennia including Matthew, Hosea and Zechariah which prophesy accurately of the people of Israel becoming a nation again after over 1900 years of being scattered around the nations since the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 70 A.D. spoken of by Christ in Matthew 23:29-24:3 and returning to their homeland after The Holocaust with Jerusalem as their capital in 1948 exactly as Jesus The Christ said. The prophets including Daniel spoke of the time where several world empires would arise and fall including the Babylonian kingdom, Medes and Persians, Roman Empire, and Saladin and the Muslims which went in consecutive order for the past few millennia. The people of Israel becoming a nation after The Holocaust in 1948 (ironically the melting point of gold as God compares Israel to gold that's tested in fire in Zechariah 13:8 and Jeremiah 16:15) exactly how Jesus The Christ said would happen since God us everything to come in The Scriptures and not just because people were working towards as Atheists claim which are impossible for any regular man to predict.
Just before anyone says Christianity is a white man's religion made to oppress blacks during slavery you obviously aren't aware that the first Christians were Jews in The Middle East and that Christianity just like any religion can be used by evil and corrupt people to oppress others but you forget that the first Abolitionists/Civil Rights activists were Christians who sought to abolish slavery, racism, segregation, injustice and prejudice throughout American history. Jesus The Christ loves you enough not to give you what we all deserve which is God's Wrath by His Own Blood. Charles Darwin didn't originally come up with The Theory of Evolution over 200 years ago as it is mentioned in the writings of Ancient Greeks who believed in Demons that gave knowledge to philosophers.
Evolution makes no sense when nothing has evolved after thousands of years of human history and supposedly the first creature came from primordial sludge several millions of years
ago funny how they won't believe that God an Eternal Almighty Spirit Being created us from the Earth) which came from a supermassive expansion of matter at high temperature that inexplicably created everything in the known universe that supposedly came from nothing billions of years ago. How did the organs evolve before there were bones, skin, substance and how did any creatures see before eyes evolved? I've studied evolution and abiogenesis in the past and read Darwin's " Origin of The Species" I've studied evolution and abiogenesis in the past and read Darwin's " Origin of The Species" and I'm not convinced of but not macro or micro Evolution because there's no evidence of it nor clear observable examples of it where living creatures evolve into other kinds of species plus the fact that fossils don't show evidence of evolution and genetic entropy rules out evolution. The question begs how did two genders evolve from a common ancestor with a perfectly hospitable and sustainable environment with breathable oxygen and resources to survive on inexplicably? Atheists have the burden of proof to explain how everything came to be and why our existence is possible without the Existence of God from an godless perspective just as Christians have to provide evidence of God's Existence and the validity of His Word.
Evolution requires life to already exist in order to take any effect in living organisms so it doesn't account for the existence of Life and reality. Also evolution is impossible because it goes against The Law of entropy and the second Law of thermodynamics because evolution makes things better whereas nothing continues to get better but decays and turns to absolute destruction in the end. Mark Ridley an Evolutionist said "No evolutionist whether gradualist or punctuationist uses the fossil record as evidence in favor of The Theory of Darwinian Evolution as opposed to special Creation". God's Existence is made perfectly known and observable in the universe as demonstrated in His Handiwork in the intelligently designed manner that Creation was made, human consciences and consciousness historical and archaeological evidence of God's Word being valid history, fulfillment of Bible Prophecies God in His Holiness and Righteousness could give us what we deserve in Hell for our since but He's merciful to give us free will to choose to accept or reject His gift of salvation by grace through faith in His Son Jesus. I don't mean this is any condescending manner but if you'd like to discuss The Scriptures with me or have me listen to your view on anything my instagram account is Savage Christian Kombatant.

I work with a woman who compulsively watches Dhar Mann videos and she is honestly one of the nastiest meanest people I've ever met.....I see her everyday, glued to her phone, gnawing on beef jerky while she soaks up every bit of that drivel..... I usually just turn around and go hide in my office until she has to go do some actual work..... it's absolutely frightening.......

I equate it to seeing an accident on the side of the highway, you know it's bad but you can't look away. You're compelled to see it out of some sort of morbid curiosity.
Darr Mann doesn't really believe he's changing lives. He cares about getting views and cashing in. Its the same reason reality TV does so well.

Thank you for the analysis, Dr. Grande, and thank you for not judging the actors in those awful videos. It's nearly impossible for actors or directors to make bad dialogue and scenes look natural. The best of the best can make it tolerable at best, but they can't make miracles happen. I have only seen 2 of Dhar Mann's videos years ago, and I still cringe at the plotlines and dialogue.

I think the channel is so popular exactly because people want a hit of that nicely packaged instant revenge. You don't even have to think, it's so blatant in the videos (thus appealing to the widest possible audience). The instant revenge titles are clickbait much like cover of "The National Enquirer," but the videos deliver exactly what they claim. It just happens to be super cringy and I guess people will overlook that for their "hit" of revenge. 😂
