Im 2 weeks post op and I've been walking straight up since day 2. Got the surgery in colombia and was surprised they wanted me to stand straight but so thankful I did. No backpain. They had a great point, they said you lay flat when cut and sewn, you can stand straight after a couple days.
I’m not exactly sure you are still supine when sewn back up.
I am glad your recovery is going well!
This is so helpful. But the title should be 10 tips not 10 exercises.
Thank doctor
Not a problem Kaja!
Hi Dr I just came by Chanel and I have a question, I did a tummy tuck surgery with muscle repair 6 weeks ago however I see my tummy still look bloated? Is it normal? Many thanks 🙏🏼
The first week was hard! I was up walking off and on but I was not exercising at all. I’m very fit but the pain was just to much. The second week I was able to get out of the house for small outings. I’m going into my third week and still on Tylenol, Advil around the clock and when I can’t take the discomfort anymore I take half a pain pill and a muscle relaxer. So glad I have strong legs and arms but this surgery is by far the most painful surgery I’ve every had.
Same here😢
I wish to had found this video months ago, I think my surgeon in Norway did not told me all that😢
What about stretching? Do you recommend any slow stretching & if so when can we start & how often?
Stretching is very important! Depending on the type of stretches you are doing, you can start this 2 weeks post surgery and onwards. Avoid stretches that would put strain on your scars and surgical site.
Would you recommend doing a liquid diet a few days before the surgery so that you won’t have trouble pooping after surgery?
I am almost at my 3rd week, still hunched over, with pain in my abdomen and swelling, I got a cold and cough after the first week and it's being very difficult.
It is ideal to see your surgeon regularly after tummy tuck surgery and I would advise that you bring these concerns up with them. Different techniques used during surgery will result in different recovery periods, as well as different patients having different recovery times. I wish you well in your recovery.
Hello! How are you now? What are your thoughts about the results?
I know this is an old post , but t was very informative and thanks for touching bace on POST OP depression lol yeah sitting your room for periods of days you do start to be all inside yur head.
quick question , how long dose the firmness last at the abdominal site , Im 8 weeks post op
Good evening, I am two weeks in post op. Is there a specific Vitamin E lotion to use?
It would be best to wait until around 4 weeks time, when the area has healed, to use Vitamin E lotion. Any non-scented lotion is best to use for dryness but not to be placed on the wound. It is always best to check with your surgeon to see what they recommend in your individual situation.
Thank you . I do have a question, I had a tummytuck done 7 month ago and my upper abdomen is extended. Yes I did had a full tummytuck and I don't understand why this is happening. Can you please tell me what I can do to help . The doctor who did it think it may be fluid, but there is nothing he can he do. Please advice
This is difficult to answer without having a proper examination and some tests. It could have a number of causes - your original surgeon would be the best to determine this.
Hello,
I had a TT and muscle repair almost 7 weeks ago. I'm a marathoner and I actually finished a marathon 2 months prior toy surgery.
I'm wondering when I can get back to running? My PS says 6 weeks and I past that but I just don't want to start too early.
Thank you!
6 weeks is a pretty standard timeframe to resume exercise, it is always best to check in with your surgeon to see how your recovery is going. It is also a good idea to start out a bit slower and work up to the running, listen to your body and do not push yourself to get back to your pre surgery routines until you are ready.
I had done full t meter but doctor surgeon did not repair my muscles my best is 45 inches 3 foot 1 inch At least I should have got the result after such a big surgery The surgeon said you were not need to repair musels, I but my tummy is not flat And on both sides of the place where the love handles are, there's a hardness. He is saying that it will end in 6 weeks, there is no need to remove this collection of blood Because I did an ultrasound of the abdominal wall and it was found that there is a collection on the site. what should i do please give me some advice i live in pakistan please please please give me advice
My doc told me to wait : months before resuming full vigorous exercise. Only light exercise at eeek 6
It is best to follow advise from your surgeon as there are different techniques that are used. Your surgeon will know exactly what has been done and it is important to follow their advise.
Good day doctor. What if you already have a big butt. Can you get it lifted without getting fat transfer. Is there such a thing as a "butt lift "?
Hi There Kitti
Yes! There is absolutely such a things as a "Butt Lift". I have attached a clip of a procedure i have done recently. vimeo.com/411288278
Hello doctor, so I had a tummy tuck 2 months ago but my wound opened in the middle but its already closed after 6 weeks. My question is what kind of exercise should I do and if I can work out? cause between working from home and this surgery my body feels weird cause I do not do enough movement. Please let me know I will appreciate it.
Thank you for your questions and than you for sharing. I think it is important that you ask these questions from your surgeon. The answer will depend on the techniques they have used, any complications that you may have had. I see all my patients frequently after their surgery. Normally in my patients (which may not apply to you) you would be back to doing all types of exercise with no restrictions at 3 months. from 2 weeks onwards you are starting to walk and doing some light exercise. 4 weeks is usually a good time to increase the exercise. Most of my patients can do a light job, weights, bicycle from 6-8 weeks.
Hope this helps.

@@DrBernardBeldholm thank you
I feel exactly the same. 4 weeks post op
I had my tummy tuck procedure 3 weeks back. I am almost walking straight.
Cant wait to.get back to working out. There is still swelling and i wear a compression garment the whole day. Just remove it half hr before bath and then back on. I wanted to know if it was normal to feel sensitive on the tummy area. Coz when i remove my compression.garment and my clothes touch the skin on tht area, its very irritating and painfully sensitive. Is that normal dr??
This can happen, patients can experience hypersensitive nerves when they grown back. This would normally settle in 3 months. It is always best to see your surgeon for them to check in on this.
How long should compression garments be worn for , October 22, 2020 I had liposuction around my in tire waist , back and upper breast area without muscle repair and then after the loose skin removal, I've had three kids and my stomach still isn't flat and they gave me no drains but left my scar open to drain after they squeeze all of the liquid blood and what ever they could squeeze out of me. and I hardly had any pain except for when I laughed I never was humped over walked marathons through the house and around the block. Should I have had muscle repair or just start doing more sit ups. I went through full menopause at age 38yrs. from having a partial hysterectomy there was a fibroid in the wall of my uterus almost blead to death periods wee so bad me and my Sister she was older in her 50's , But my stomach waist got up to 46 inches hers didn't , I'm 5ft. 3in. and after almost 2yrs of the surgery my waist is 29 inches. I'm 59yrs. this July 2022. had the surgery at 58yrs and 3 months old.
Hi Laverne, Thank you for your comment! Our patients wear their compression garments full time for the first 4 weeks following surgery and then they can switch to part time for the next 2 weeks. It is always best to check with your surgeon what they would recommend in your case and to always contact them if you are having any concerns.
Dr. I had my surgery two weeks ago and I still can’t walk straight and my back is killing me. Please tell me what to do
It is best to see your surgeon so that they can review you. Post-operative appointments are very important.
Burpees :D I can't wait to be back to the gym. Meanwhile I'm trying to learn what is safe to do.
Doctor, I am 3 weeks of post tummy tuck op. I am feeling I am putting on weight because of not doing exercises. I am walking around 12k steps everyday. But it's not helping me stop weight gaining. Kindly suggest.
It is always best to see your surgeon to review. They will be able assess your recovery to see when the best time to increase exercising would be.
When can u jog or roller skate after a belt lipectomy with major diastasis repair
Yes you absolutely can, however best to start with low impact workouts first
Thanks very helpful tips
Hi Dr. I had my tummy tuck 4 weeks ago and the swelling is still huge, will this go by itself?
Swelling goes away slowly. I’m 8 weeks and still hunched over a bite with some swellings.
@Delisa72 how is the selling now? I'm 12 weeks and still get swelling. It's so frustrating
The swelling is gone and I'm not wearing the belt. Still some numbness around the belly button
Hi doctor where can I buy the garment
Hi there! The garments come from Surgical Supplies Australia and are ordered into the surgical clinic. You would be best to talk to your surgeon about getting one ordered in for you.
I just got a mini tummy tuck. Could I lift weights after four weeks?
Leah, Thank you for your question. It would be up to your surgeon to advice you on the appropriate exercises after your surgery. However these are the guidelines that I give to my patients having a mini-tummy tuck.
4 weeks after your surgery:
You will be able to lift weights. you are not completely back to normal. This takes around 6-12 weeks. However walking is fine. using the row machine in the gym is fine as well as the stationary bicycle.
If you where doing weights before your surgery than start at around 50% of the weights you where doing and build up to your full exercise over 4 weeks.
Hope this helps

Dr Beldholm - Body Contouring Surgeon Thank you!
Does tummy looking uneven is normal after 5 to 6 week
Uneven swelling is possible. You are now 2 months after surgery so hopefully things have evened out for you. You should go back to your surgeon if this is not the case.

I had full tummy tuck done but my plastic surgeon did not repair the muscles I have sent you the rest of the details in the message below.
I had a tummy tuck nov 26 2019 and I have been in lots of pain on my left side of my stomach when I sit to long I have more pain I am very sore and I get tired after sitting to long and I also cannot lift over 10lbs I cannot work out at the gym I have been very upset and in pain for to long I would like to get help
I am disappointed to hear of your bad experience with another surgeon. There are different ways of doing tummy tuck surgery and I would advise to return to your surgeon with your concerns as they will be able to provide you with the appropriate advise, knowing which techniques they have used. Chronic pain is rare but it can happen.
I had a mini tummy tuck last week. All is brill as I had a check and wound re dressed. How ever the compression garment is something else!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel it must have been invented by a man!!!!!!!!!!! Mine has 16 hook & eyes down each side then another 3 in a bit of a place. Wow I can not see the hook & eyes let alone fasten it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Phew gotta keep going with it though. My Guy has to help fasten me up. HA HA/
We have found that a velcro binder or garment with a zip instead of the hooks is most comfortable and easy for our patients to wear!
