  • Always Board Never Boring has wanted to make some videos about the gameplay for Masters of the Universe Battleground by Archon Studio for some time, and he's finally getting around to it. In this video, he takes a (very long) look at how to build a force by selecting characters like He-Man and Teela, and preparing them for battle with iconic weapons and artifacts. This video also covers Fate and Glory cards, and briefly runs through what is special about each faction in the game and how they can score victory points to emerge victorious.
    Please note, in a pretty funny development, the day after ABNB made this video, Archon Studio announced a stretch goal in the Gamefound campaign to include examples of eight preconstructed decks. That should really help new players to hit the ground running.
    It's a long video, so here are your time stamps:
    00:00 Intro
    00:58 Cards and points
    02:53 Winning the game
    04:20 The factions
    06:17 Picking characters
    12:16 Extra equipment
    15:20 Team overview
    16:25 Fate cards
    18:56 Glory cards
    20:45 Final thoughts

    Love more of these videos for other factions and even just more builds with other characters

      My next Battleground video will focus on what happens on the table, but if there's demand for it, I could do some more teambuilding videos. I'm no expert though, so don't expect too many tournament-winning ideas!

    thank you for explaining the point system, I was a little confused when I researching how to count up the points for a team and equip. Also loved your last video on the jungles of delthrak. I'm playing catch up with your videos lol been busy with work and finally have a day to catch up on your videos. Also great paint job on the mini's he-man looks awesome and king kiss.

      Thanks for watching, and for the kind words. I am very behind on painting Battleground as I only do a character every now and again, but I really want to get more of them done.

    This Video is so helpfull. I searched the inet for such information as the game released in 2022 and couldnt find anything like this. Would love to see some more tactics/builds for the other factions as well. Also some fate cards that pair nice with special characters and so on.

      I'm glad you found it helpful. I do plan on running some more MotU Battleground content as soon as I can.

      Thanks for watching. I do enjoy playing around with team builds for this game, but it's hard not to simply go - Skeletor, Mer-Man, Beast Man, Evil-Lyn, and Trap Jaw. Done! Let's fight!

    Great video, clear and concise, just what a new player needs to get them started 😉

      Thanks. That's what I was trying for. I didn't realise the video would go on so long when I sat down to make it!

    Oh heck yeah dude! Thanks for another killer video! I'm so stupidly hyped for this game and am starting my preparation to dive in 100% with the current crowdfunding release. Just finished making a snazzy printable 25x30 hex map template to plan custom scenarios with! Let's go!!! 🎉

      I think they really do the theme justice, and He-Man fans should get a real kick out of it.

    Oh, yeah that makes a lot of sense. I'm getting a better picture of the game now. Trying to describe it to my friends led to questions like "Why aren't the point values on the card" or "why does he-man hafta pay for the Sword of Power??"
    You gonna do a video for you and your Daughter? Evil Warriors vs. She-Ra? 😊

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  Před měsícem +3

      Yeah, those iconic items are sort of baked into the character. You don't have to have them, but they are part of how the character works, and I really do see the character and iconic item as a combined unit. So, to me, He-Man is always 22 points. Although keeping iconic weapons separate does mean you can change up the way a character plays if you want to, which is a nice touch.
      I don't feature the kids in my videos anymore, but I am hoping to play a game of Battleground with her at some point.

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring that's fair. Let us know how it goes, though. I'm curious if She-Ra can take on Skeletor

    I certainly see the advantage in being able to update point costs. You can at least print the latest and keep it with the cards. (Can you tell my phone is from 2007?)

      I do like the fact that they aren't going to invalidate the cards if they revise them. A searchable database would be helpful for quickly bringing up the points of an item.

    Might there be reason to pick the She-Ra card to prevent a Rebellion player from from picking it?

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  Před měsícem +1

      Because it's a tabletop skirmish game, rather than a board game, the idea is that every player will ideally have access to their own cards. If you turn up at a tournament to play She-Ra, or even if you are just going around to a friend's house to play, it's expected you would have purchased the She-Ra faction pack.
      The only time you could "deny" an opponent a card is if you are playing casually at home and you only have one copy of that card (maybe because you collect and buy the game and just play against other people who use your collection). I am in that particular situation myself - I don't play against anyone who has their own stuff - and in those circumstances, I think you should just let people have access to any faction-specific cards first for the sake of having a fun game. Even then it's only an issue with expansions, as the core set includes two of every card so both the Masters of the Universe and the Evil Warriors have access to all cards from the core set.
