In August of 2017 we sold everything and moved aboard Balachandra, a 1986 C&C44 sailboat, then sailed it over 300 nautical miles to Halifax Nova Scotia to spend a cold Canadian winter in the frozen waters of the North Atlantic. Sailing Balachandra is our CZcams sailing vlog inspired by other great channels such as Delos and La Vagabonde, which documents the sailing adventures of myself and my partner Nawal as we navigate the globe. We also dive into lots of DIY boat projects both above and below decks, and share with you all of the pros and cons of living aboard full time. Sailing Balachandra is published weekly so please subscribe so you don't miss out on future videos!

Happy New Year from another Canuck close to Alaska.
Hi -25ºC where I am right now Alberta. Have enjoyed watching your videos the last few days bring back memories & I think you got a great boat! I used to sail & race C&C 41s back in the 90s Antigua Race week Tobago Regatta Carriacou Regatta also delivered one from Antigua to Sarnia best boat I ever sailed so love the idea of the larger 44. Yes un stepping & stepping the mast for the NY canal system a pain & that keel bolt under the mast step! Only real problem I had with them was toe rail leaking did you encounter this on yours? Maybe they fixed that for the 44. Cape Hatteras in the winter your braver than me was hove to off of it for 3 days on Irving Arctic Oil tanker 600ft long that was bad enough for me!
Can hear you fr FL
I watch you guys cuz I'm from Kelowna eh?
It's been so cold. I'm in Mystic Connecticut! You guys are great. Out at sea is most likely the safest place to be during the pandemic. We are starting to get vaccinated. Stay well, stay safe, stay sailing
Great live stream. I am going to be sailing from Ontario to Nova Scotia soon and was wondering how you heated your boat in the winter as well as how you dealt with ventilation over the winter while living on your boat. Really enjoy your videos, thanks :)
Great questions! We have an eberspacher (espar) deisel forced air furnace. It's also known as a "bunker heater" that long haul trucks use to keep warm when they sleep in the truck. Not hard to install and you can buy from the truck suppliers cheaper than you can from marine. There is another version that heats water also. The competitor is Wabasto and there are knock off brands i heard are just as good. The heater lasts 2 years of full time winter in Canada then you need to replace the motors and fans. Glow plugs every year. (Or buy a new one). We spent $16 a week in deisel to hear the entire boat :) .. for ventalation we added 2 4" plastic drain pipes to the enclosure angled down to keep he water out- one at the bow and one at the stern. Inside the boat we opened our hatches in the daytime and only heated the boat at night. Thr greenhouse effect of the clear plastic gave us summer heat even when it was -20 c! When you really need to ventilate open the enclosure door. If you get a furnace, the burn chamber air tube and exhaust MUST go outside the enclosure. It's like the exhaust pipe on your car.
@@SailingBalachandra Thanks for all that information, actually looking forward to my 1st winter aboard 👍
Happy new year👍🙂
Thanks to you as well!
Happy New Year

Do you mean, tourist that arrive on their sailboats at Antiqua complain about the tourist. hummm
A lot of flights coming in from the US and UK at the time. We where just nervous as they are not required to do quarantine, although they are coming from high risk countries
