Vol. 1 came as an 8CD set (the early years discs came on one disc instead of two, and the journey through the past film isn't included), and I believe the book in the second run of deluxe Vol. 2s has a different cover. Other than that, great vid and great box set! Glad to have my copy, regardless of the limited fiasco. The vol 2 book also has a fold-out timeline

Put something down in the holes so the book and cd/dvd will "sit up" higher, making it easier to grab and pull out.

I was first disapointed that no Blu ray edition was planned, but listening to CD 1 everybody alone and the old homestead just made me forget about it! awesome music with top notch sound! Super messy release though!

Just to add, that from what I can remember Paul, although the first Archives box set repeated several Albums that had already been issued under the (then new) NYA label, they were at least available in limited 'double disc' formats with both CD and DVD content.....

Vol I also came with a 7" single, Swinging Neil Young and The Squires - Mustang b/w Aurora in a nice repro slip cover. It doesn't fit into the Vol I box! :-/ My Vol I arrived with the book's spine split and damage to several of the Blu-ray disc gatefold sleeve spines. Warners eventually replaced the damaged items, so now I have two books, etc. As for Vol II, it's now over two months since I ordered it from Warners Canada (the only place it was still in stock when I went to order it), and I am still awaiting delivery! :-( It's also worth mentioning that although Vol II is CD only, purchasers get a download code for hi-res versions which kind of compensates for this not being Blu-ray. The hi-res audio is also available for streaming on the NYA website.

My vol 1 didn't come with that 7", which may have been exclusive to Warners or a NY store.

@@sdedition I was reminded elsewhere that it came with pre-orders. It was sent separately, ahead of the box set. Also disc 0 was sent early to "test drive" before the box shipped. A second disc 0 was in that!

The 7” was added when preordered from Neil‘s site.

My Vol 1 box fell apart in the exactly same way. That and the glue dried up and the drawer fell apart too. Then the top cover fell apart. I ended up tossing the big box about 3 years ago and only keeping the inner sleeve (and the book). I felt liberated!

I put my hardback book into a strong plastic bag which is larger than the book. I only need to grab the bag to take it out.
    Thanks for your review.

I’m glad I didn’t get those 2 big boxes, with the benefit of hindsight I think Neil probably picked the wrong design for them. The problem may have been that nobody stood up to Neil and said that the design was not good enough. I will pick up the retail version of vol.2 as I haven’t bought the Roxy album or Homegrown. At least the music is now out there with lots of great stuff promised for this year.

So there are no video Easter eggs and interactive menu like on vol 1? It’s just 10 cd’s?

Major ripoff. Most available elsewhere. I paid 25 for it on craigslist from another disgruntled fan. The few unreleased here like Osaka 1976 is excellent. why not put time fades away in it's entirety here? Where are the live stills young band songs. Where is the sdtk of where the buffalo roam. Neil doesn't respect his fans. Vol. 1. Waaaay better.
