hi from Aberdeen, UK .... very good, helpful and "snappy" review (it is good that you get info across so efficiently and thoroughly) ... might actually spring for a copy on the back of your review. thsnks
Hi Calum from the UK! I’m glad you found it so helpful, but I apologize if I’m now making you spend money on this very pricy set...haha! But it’s amazing IMO!
Thanks for the video, Brendan. Looks like a really cool set.
You’re welcome! I’m glad you enjoyed the video.
Nice overview. Thanks for sharing
You’re welcome Robert. I’m glad you enjoyed it!
This “down period” from 73-76 is my favorite era. Live he looked tired, I have a boot dvd Yesteryear of the Horse - Japan 76, but the records are stellar.
Well it doesn’t help that Crazy Horse guitarist Danny Whitten died during this period and that would have water heavy on him and the band.
So many good unreleased songs on this box. Highly recommend it!
Right you are Greg!
I can't wait to get mine I'm so excited it's on its way thanks for the review I appreciate it
You’re welcome Jeanette, I hope you enjoy your’s as much as I’m enjoying mine.
@@BrendonSnyder I got mine it is well worth the $250 small price to pay for such great music!
Great box
Great review
Great t-shirt
Thank you Robert!
Nice overview. I may go for the standard this is the first time I passed on a mega set like this but I have all the albums. Might jump in later to get the other music. The book looks beautiful though. ✌🏻
Thanks Norman! Yeah there is a lot of really amazing unreleased material on here even if you own all the albums I’d still recommend it. At least the standard edition.
Great review......and love your cool cat putting in an appearance at 13.17 - Where's Brendon? 13.51 Oh he's talking about that Neil guy again - looks like I'm getting my own supper
Hi Simon! My cat used to cause more shenanigans during my videos when I first started my channel. Now he can’t be bothered...haha.
Thanks for the great review, I can't wait to hear those unreleased songs.
You’re welcome! And some of those tracks are so good it’s questionable as to why they never made an album.
@@BrendonSnyder it's going to be tough to wait till March. Can I get them on Neil's site to download?
When you purchase you get a digital download. I received mine before the boxset shipped. But I don’t know if you’ll have to wait until March 5th to get your download if you order now.
Hi Brandon,
Major Neil fan. Have the previous box Vol. 1 like yours and ordered the retail standard edition... and my birthday is in March so..... you know. Thanks for the show and tell. No other Canadian
artist as prolific and has legendary catalog as his and yes, this period is very much essential. I would really be remissed and upset with myself had I not preordered.
Thanks and God bless.
Tino
Hi Tino! Yeah Neil is amazing. He also holds US citizenship. So as an American can I claim him now too...haha? The Boxsets is fantastic, you’re going to love it. Such a fun listen. I can’t wait for the next two eras as he moves into the 80’s and then 90’s. The 90’s was my favorite time for him.
@@BrendonSnyder I am all for sharing.... good things.
Neil said the book will be sold separately so I’m definitely picking that up
It will be interesting to see if the book is the same high quality packaging or simplified and then if the cost of the book and boxset add up to the cost of the first edition or not.
really great review! I hadn't realized the artwork for the 3 previously released albums was different, really interesting.
Re:Previously unreleased songs: There are 12, but according to NYA.com, they didn't put Separate Ways from the LOFML CD as one of them. The 12th one way Greensleeves!
Also: Letter from 'Nam is a previously unreleased track, but it's actually an early version of the NYCH 1987 song "Long Walk Home" (track 2 from their Life LP). Not saying it shouldn't be considered a previously unreleased track, just an interesting fact!
Keep up the good work!
Long may you run
Brendon, You did a fantastic review! The Neil Young box set looks beautiful. I hope to order one for myself. I was wondering if you can provide some info on Volume 1. Was that set only available on dvd and blu ray?Was Volume 1 also a cd set? If I remember correctly, in 2009 there may have been some issues with that set. Is it worth getting now? Can you provide any information? Thanks, Rick
Hey Rick! The boxset behind me in the video that says “Neil” on it, that is vol. 1 and it is 10 CD’s and definitely worth picking up. It spans 1963 to 1972. I prefer the period of Boxset Vol. 2 more though. And I’m really looking forward to the next Vol. 3.
I bought the second edition of the Deluxe box wich will como on 03/21 as well. Can´t wait to put my hands on it
Do you know if there are any differences between the first and second edition?
@@BrendonSnyder I believe the only difference is going to be the number "II" in red color on the box set.
It’s great that they will make it available again. But it’s a shame you have to wait until March. I was very glad to get it 4 months early in that regard. I hope you enjoy yours once it arrives as much as I’m enjoying mine.
@@topofthetalks The book appears to have a different cover on it as well.
@@gregmcamp It´s true. I hope the quality remains the same if they change the bookk cover.
Brendon, I love Neil Young and your review was awesome! We all know Neil Young is a huge fan of vinyl. My music collection is mostly cds, but I have a decent record collection too. You recently did a great review of streaming vs. physical media. Cds seems like the way to go in terms of price, longevity, storage space and sound quality. What are your thoughts on vinyl vs. cds?
Old original vinyls do sound better than original CDs when first pressed. But with technology and remastering CDs sound as good as vinyl IMO. Vinyl is better for the art of the album but cumbersome and hard to store. But there are a lot of albums that never made it to cassette or CD and the only way to listen is vinyl so I have a small collection for those rare out of print kinds of albums and some modern ones that only get issued to vinyl.
As of right now at least, there isn't a version of this on Blu-ray as well like volume 1?
Correct. Right now it’s only in hi res files downloadable from his website that come free with the purchase of the physical boxset.
@@BrendonSnyder Ok,thanks for the reply. I appreciate it,and the review was very good!
You’re welcome Jack! Happy Holidays!
@@BrendonSnyder You too!🎄🥂
looks like they are going to make more of the limited box sets and also a retail version. so if you want it you can pre-order it from his website.
Is there no video Easter eggs and interactive menu like vol 1?
There are no DVD’s or BluRays as part of the package this time.
@@BrendonSnyder bummer. That’s what I loved about vol. 1. Thx for responding!
Ive pre-ordered the second edition due out in march hundred twenty five quid
Glad you got yours ordered!
So have I.Birthday treat.
Neil rocks
Yes he does! I can never get enough Neil!!
So the book which is about the only reason making the standard edition price feasible won't be part of the normal edition. Also pity TimeFades Away (on cd) isn't included.Original Album box which it was part of has long been oop.
Yeah I agree and it would have been nice too if Journey Through The Past would get an official release. I do have Time Fades Away from the Original Albums box. Not sure why he is keeping some of these albums out of print. Now that he has sold 50% of his rights maybe they will get released.
Dag, it's interesting that you mentioned Time Fades Away. Unfortunately, the critics and the buying public alike weren't too crazy about this album. But it has always been among my very favorites, up there with Gold Rush, Everybody Knows, and Zuma. Almost everything he did through that time., spoke to me and helped me survive my late teens and early twenties. After my home was destroyed by fire, and took my entire music collection, I was not able to find this album for more than 20 years. And all that time, it has always been the first few notes of "don't be denied", that goes through my head, when I couldn't go home and put it on my turntable. After much thought, it occurs to me that it is Ben Keith's pedal steel guitar that so changed his sound, in subtle ways. So, thanks Neil, for a lifetime of incredible music. We love you.
If this set was on LP’s I would definitely buy
I’m surprised he isn’t releasing it on vinyl.
This CD boxset retails for $150 standard and $250 deluxe. Making it on vinyl would have surely quadruplicated the costs, making it too expensive for 99.9% of real fans and only really available to rich guys and scalpers.
What is your problem people, why do you want everything to be on vinyl?
@@bosco7837 chill bro. I don’t have a problem, that was my opinion. To me vinyl is cool. I collect LP’s and I would like to see that collection on vinyl. Is that a crime that I said that?
Is it possible to buy all these CDs separately?
No not currently. And for Vol. 1 the CDs were never all released individually either so I don’t anticipate these to be released separately.
I wish this was in vinyl
Got 95% of Neils albums ( inc: archives vol1) but this ones really pushing it abit, most of tracks I've got all ready ,infact there's only 14 tracks on the WHOLE box ive not got
,and mainly just " live" numbers of songs ( of you've guessed it ones I've already got )
But they are different versions than one’s you have or you own bootlegs with these. But to the general public there is lots of material only available here. No yes it’s alternate or live versions. If you only want one version and don’t care for different versions then you have to take that into account when looking into buying a boxset like this.
How much did you paid for it?
Ordered it from his website for $250
That Neil Young is A Very " Boxy" Box Set....lol
You also get an email with a code to go on to NYA and get HiRes (24-bit/192khz) downloads of all the tracks.
You’re right, I forgot to mention the free download of the high res files. Thanks for reminding me.
@Ryan Simpson That sounds poor. Drop them an email. Thankfully mine worked as my box arrived only a few days ago, so at least I could listen to the music, without being tied to streaming it from NYA to my desktop.
