    Maybe there is burnout because of the obsession to get every single recording of a single song? To me, music is a relaxing or a positive outlet from reality. Sounds to me like your music burnout has more to do with music collecting than music listening.

    No, not burnt out, just frustrated that I don't have enough time to get through the CD's that I've bought recently. Only have the opportunity to listen to perhaps one album a night. Maybe two, if one album isn't that good.

    Too many bands that are too similar. That's why I like the ones I like. Although I'm into prog I get tired of many prog groups too because they follow the same template too often. Sometimes, when I find a new group with a twist I get reignited. Too many groups that just rehash the same old sound, too many rereleases that are too old playing on nostalgia. Just me I guess.

    Record labels abuse bands fans. Bottom line is the band has ZERO to do with any of it. It's pure greed. Buy what you want, but don't fall into the "17 copies of the same record" crap. It's all taking advantage of collector completists. period. The end.

    • @BrendonSnyder
      @BrendonSnyder Před 2 hodinami

      Bands are certainly involved with what gets released and how much it costs. Even when bands are broken up, the ones who hold the rights are still involved. Rarely does a record label solely own the rights to control it all.

    To your point about the Van Halen "Remasters", I loved them, you can actually HEAR Michael Anthony on 5150 now, the mix is much more in line with the 78-84 album mixes. Was very glad to see that treatment, however it definitely is more of a remix and I can see how that would upset some.

    I never really enjoyed 'The Dark side of the Moon'. After hearing tracks like 'Echoes' and 'Shine on you crazy diamond' it was a let down for me, not only the endless screaming of 'the Great gig in the Sky', but also the bluesy rock of 'Money'. Pink Floyd could do better than that. For me, it is way over-hyped...

    I worked in the recording industry. And my actual physical condition did not allow my spiritual love of music to be within that professional world as a career. I had at least 3 false heart attacks in my 20s. It's ultimately the hours of time you want to invest in the perfect sound. I worked in a few pro studios and built a couple of recording studio situations when it came to where I had to walk away or potentially have a full-blown moment of death. It was the greatest disappointment 😞 but I wasn't willing to compromise the sound and quality or artistry for my well-being. I will never tire of music on my own time. Long live Rock and Roll 🎸 🎙

    Hi B&A: I do get burnout. I might buy odd and sundry music stuff when I feel a tad bored. For example, I recently bought a giant lot of 45s at a flea market for $15.00. It is a nice haul of different music styles. I have sorted the ones that I do not need and have cleaned the ones that I like (or will probably like). I am tediously working in my free time putting them on Discogs. While doing this task, I listen to random music in my collection. I am a captive attentive audience. When I am done with this task, I am going to reward myself by going to the record store. What started as boredom brought me back to rocker enthusiasm. Rock Always! - Heather

    I have been through that myself lately. 2024 so far has been a great metal year... I got the new Bruce Dickinson, Saxon, Priest, The Rods and Blaze Bayley. I played all those non-stop from February to April. In May, I just got tired of metal. At first, I had a hard time digging through my collection. Nothing seemed fresh. I finally started to pick artists that I bought some years ago, but haven't listened to in a long time (Nick Lowe, Cracker, The Replacements, etc.) It seemed I needed jangle pop to cleanse my pallette. Sometimes it can be tough though to find that right thing. Sometimes you keep trying out old stuff, but nothing seems to hit the spot. When that happens, I typically go to classical or jazz. Something without lyrics. Doesn't always work, but mostly it does. I also try to delve into new music or artists that I haven't fully explored. As the years go on, this is also getting harder, but still works. I found some good stuff like Alvvays, Priests, Courtney Barrett, etc.

    A few years ago, I started this thing where I’d just randomly grab one of my CDs from the shelves and take it out to my car and listen to it from start to finish. My time is limited due to having a family with small kids and such so over the course of day, 3-4 days I will listen to an entire album and it’s helped me rediscover something that perhaps had been sitting on the shelf for literally years. I then track my albums that I’ve listened to from start to finish in my notes of my phone and it’s been fun to go back through the past few years since I started tracking them to see the variety of stuff I’ve listened to. The one downside is grabbing something that perhaps you’re not a big fan of and having to power through an entire album such as the case with the two Use Your Illusion albums for me. Some good songs on each but so much bad filler to have to suffer through.

    Well obviously your mind is telling you it needs a break. So if you give it a break it will soon enough want to listen to music again. If you fight it by streaming or genre switch it may not really be helping and instead lead to more burnout and disinterest. Sometimes listening to the ambient sounds in the house and area where you live and your own thoughts is a good thing. So your brain might be telling you something.
