  • Why did East-Pakistan become Bangladesh? In this second video, Dr. Taimur Rahman examines the economic data between 1947 - 1968 to determine whether the disparity between East and West-Pakistan was growing. The video concludes that the case that West-Pakistan benefited at the expense of East-Pakistan is today largely incontestable. The political ramifications of this growing inequality will be examined in the third video of this series.

Only the Bangladeshi people helped themselves to getting rid of Pakistan. As for Allah, you can ask Him why His beloved Muslims ( alongside many Bangladeshi Hindus as well) were discriminated, tortured, killed and ethnically cleansed in the first place - that also at the hands of fellow Muslims only.

Justice will be delivered when there is an injustice involved, right? So the injustice has to take precendence in sequential order, isnt it? Human has been given free will. Commiting crime is human decision, but the consequences are decided by the divine, I believe, I am not imposing my belief on you.

This ghazal was written in 1971 by Naseer Turabi, expressing his sadness and sorrow of the secession of East Pakistan now Bangladesh.

Perhaps, you should have translated the $2.6 Billion amount in today's money for people to get a better understanding. I must also add that what's on the record about economic disparities is only half the picture.
Somehow you are not bringing up the overt racism towards Bengalis at all throughout 47-71 period. But, I must say you have the most accurate narrative of what happened (even from a Bangladeshi point of view). I am curious to listen to the next installment and will be looking forward to it, because I feel it gets a little tricky for a number of reasons. Pakistani ruling class actually thought that they will be better off without us.
Also, I really think a lecture on contemporary Pakistan-Bangladesh relations will be great too.

This lecture series is a beautiful example of objective analysis of history, a fundamental objective of Marxism. I do not understand Urdu, but I was still listening and could make sense out of most of it because Urdu and Hindi have much in common and I do understand Hindi. I think one should add English (or at least Hindi) subtitles to this lecture because that will make it accessible to large number of people in the sub-continent. Common people in India and Pakistan have very little understanding of the historical processes that control our political atmosphere, and therefore they fall prey to narrow-minded sectarian politics. The masses will greatly benefit if they are exposed to these types of lectures.
