Muslim clerics react to Supreme Court's big alimony order for Muslim women

- Supreme Court ruled Section 125 CrPC applies to all women, including divorced Muslim women. The Apex Court ruled that Muslim women can seek maintenance from husband upon divorce. A divorced Muslim female can file a petition for maintenance from her husband, said Supreme Court.
Muslim clerics shared mixed views on the Supreme Court’s big alimony order for muslim women. One of the cleric said that SC must review its decision, while other said that this will help women.

These are the logistics. Illiteracy in India 25%. Illiteracy among Muslim women 50%. IF a man gives triple talaq ( talaq-e-biddat ) in 3 settings - where will she go? Uneducated, no skill, no training, she can’t be employed at all except for begging and another profession which I hate to mention. Just like any other Indian divorcee whether Hindu, Christian, Jain, Sikh woman , any Muslim woman when gets divorced - should be eligible for maintenance from her ex-husband. That’s the law in any civilized society. Well done Supreme Court.
