The B side of Hey Little Girl. This genius had a lot of B sides that should have been A sides. The absolute best singer/songwriter and showman that ever lived. I wish I could see him one more time live.
I wish there were a love it button on here. He was my great uncle and I also sing. I wish I was as good. I look at his career and it seems he really got hosed.
@@jamesanderson2234 Aww, that is so cool! I wish you all the luck with your music. Your uncle's story is truly tragic and we were robbed of an honest-to-God legend due to greed around him. May he RIP and you hear his advice whispered in your ear.
It's unfortunate how many great artists were not totally paid for their royalties such as Del Shannon, Jackie Wilson and Frankie Lymon. I thank them all for the great music they produced and may they all live with God forever.
Del was more popular in Britain than in the states, he managed to still have hits after the Beatles broke. this song should have been released as a single, it's one of his best
It's from a British film called 'It's Trad Dad' which went on general release in 1962 and features US artists Del Shannon, Gene Vincent, Gary US Bonds, Chubby Checker, Gene McDaniels, and British artists Helen Shapiro, Craig Douglas, the Brook Brothers and John Leyton.
David Jacobs introducing Del Shannon. You talked about your past and future, honey About the kind of man you thought would suit you, honey And you told him what a man should do If he wants to be love by you You talked and talked so endlessly Tears filled my eyes, I couldn't see 'Cause you never talked about me, honey, about me, honey You told me there would be Anyone else for you You swore your love was true How could you do this to me Makin' me cry like that My heart could die like that
HurricaneHomer9 He claimed in an interview he was asked to sing without his guitar in sha an na and was very disappointed as he thought it was stupid to “do a little dance”! Gotta recreate the Del Shannon fan club!
Unfortunately, as with most singers on TV, he was lip synching. Many years ago I had the pleasure of seeing Del Shannon twice here in London, both times in The Royal Albert Hall and he never sounded better. The second time that I saw him was just months before his tragic death and not long after this his highly acclaimed album "Rock On" was released.
Did anyone notice Mario Fabrizi eating at the table next to Helen Shapiro and Craig Douglas? He was in many comedy shows with Tony Hancock, Benny Hill and others. He seldom spoke but understood the spirit of whatever sketch he was in.
I grew up listening and buying his records. He was one of my favorite artist. It was sad when he passed.........................thanks for showing this clip!
I went down to the railroad station, honey I overheard a conversation, honey Yeah you we're talkin' to a guy named Jim And the things that you we're tellin' him You talked and talked so endlessly Tears filled my eyes, I couldn't see 'Cause you never talked about me, honey about me, honey You talked about your past and future, honey About the kind of man you thought would suit you, honey And you told him what a man should do If he wants to be love by you You talked and talked so endlessly Tears filled my eyes, I couldn't see 'Cause you never talked about me, honey about me, honey You tolde me there would be Anyone else for you You swore your love was true How could you do this to me Makin' me cry like that My heart could die like that The stars come out by the railroad station, honey You carried on your conversation, honey And then he kissed you and I heard you sigh It was time for me to say goodbye You kissed and kissed so endlessley Tears fille my eyes, I couldn't see 'Cause you never talked about me, honey About me, honey
I took my girl to see " It's Trad Dad" 1972. I was sweet 17 then, Never been Kissed, kicked, or manhandled. Or, all of the above. The times weren't as innocent as we old'ns make out.
1962 - the last year of the fifties! After that was the JFK assassination, The British Invasion, protest movements, stagflation, and worse. I'd take that time of beautiful cars, doo wop and boundless optism any day over the modern world.
Moovit Footballhead Too right. loved the 50s / early 60s era then the Beatles came along and ruined every pop acts careers of the day - and I'm a brit.
Glad someone else was aware of things then. I saw Del Shannon twice at the City Hall Newcastle and he was a tremendous act.. You're right. His B sides were easily good enough to be A sides in their own right. One of the few artists whose records could be played on both sides and enjoyed. mind you, I have to say, that film was crap but the music was good. Enjoy your life.
God, what a bad song. Del must have owed the Mafia a favor to do this piece. Part of the movement to tie rock songs to heavy instrumentation and over dubbing.
The best meet Del in Manchester 25 years ago
Back in 62/ 63 the best solo singer I saw and even now few have bettered. Rog.pacific sunset records.

Loved this song, loved Del Shannon.

Did Del pay royalties to cover this song?
Man, the thing i'd do to meet Del if he was alive... God bless this rock star! He was the best!! R.I.P
Yes I noticed him , I saw the film when it came out in the early 60's. Del never made a bad B side and this was without just about his best.
A great singer
Del was more popular in Britain than in the states, he managed to still have hits after the Beatles broke.

It was the b-side of Hey Little Girl, the first Del Shannon record I bought. Then I bought his first four singles on an EP.
Del Shannon!
Wow never seen him without his guitar
I know right.
HurricaneHomer9 He claimed in an interview he was asked to sing without his guitar in sha an na and was very disappointed as he thought it was stupid to “do a little dance”! Gotta recreate the Del Shannon fan club!

Kind of a rebel style about him. I just love his music.

From the Film `It`s Trad Dad`
Even though his hits weren't that many, he was one of the most influential musicians of that era, great tune!

Makin' me cry like that
My heart could die like that
The stars come out by the railroad station, honey
You carried on your conversation, honey
And then he kissed you and I heard you sigh
It was time for me to say goodbye
You kissed and kissed so endlessley
Tears fille my eyes, I couldn't see

I think it's a great B side from a wonderful artist who was highly rated among Britsih teens in the early 60's. Thanks for posting.
You speak much truth...ha...the first time I heard runaway I got chills.
first words I learnt in 60s
Best of the best

Boy, he was really working up a sweat there.
He is like so HOT!
@1:26 Amazing array of expressions in a short time.
I think I saw del Shannon at the start of the clip.
New for me!
Sad he took his life!

Shakin Stevens does a fantastic cover of this del classic. 😀
This is a cover by Del. Originally done by the drifters.
@zaaritha yeah i agree ,but when you get fame then it aint there no more. it must be so hard to take...
What is the instrument played in the beginning after each sentence that sounds like a trumpet?
I love that
is that Helen Shapiro??
She was watching him.
was that helen Shapiro?
Bit sweaty !
Nice clip of the film, but I prefer The Drifters version.
+Clare Louise Onions SHA LA LA LA LA, BABY IT'S YOU Couldn't agree more...though for both acts, it's an overlooked gem...
All versions are the best, each brings something different but me... I really do like the Shakin Stevens version. Merry Christmas
Not one of his better efforts.
Not that good song but he had better songs in the future that made him a star well done dell
God, what a bad song. Del must have owed the Mafia a favor to do this piece. Part of the movement to tie rock songs to heavy instrumentation and over dubbing.
This is a cover of a drifters song.
