So Elvis was the King ! But Del Shannon was by far the greatest of all the rock & rollers as far as I`m conserned.Met him & shook is hand a couple of times.Miss you very much Del boy. Ken in England.

That's because Del Shannon wrote & recorded most of his material. Elvis might've been King but he wasn't a song writer. At a certain concert Elvis sang Runaway and later said he wanted to thank Del Shannon for having written the song. Turned out Del Shannon attended the concert and asked him to stand up. Every one clapped Elvis did it his own way Cos he couldn't sing falsetto. I think that was the Vegas concert. When Del Shannon recorded & released Runaway in 1961. That song knocked off whatever song Elvis had on the charts from the # 1 spot. That's why he paid tribute to Del Shannon but Elvis was one of Del Shannon's music influences. That's why he was present at that concert.

@@johnpearce3714 Del Shannon had mentioned that Hank Williams was an influence on his music. He mentions that Hank Williams used cord changes in his music and that influenced Del to do the same in his music. In 1964 Del Shannon released an album that paid tribute to Hank Williams. It was entitled, "Del Shannon sings Hank Williams" the music was a bit ahead of its time. The music to that album influenced a style called "Country Rock" which caught on later in the 70's. It's a wonderful album I had it on cassette which I later gave to my Mom because she loved Hank Williams Music. My Mom said she enjoyed listening to that tape.

@@joegongora2200Del speaks about Elvis introducing him from the stage in Vegas in a CZcams post. Apparently Del was at the bar with Brian Hyland and the spotlights were sweeping the room not knowing where Del was. It was left to Hyland to call out loudly "he's over here" and rescue the situation.

@@barryirwin60....it was the last date of that '72 tour which was recorded for Del's "Live in England" LP, released in 1973. That was his only live album issued whilst he was alive. The December '72 show was recorded in The Princess Club, South Manchester.
It is still possible to obtain this LP on 'Discogs' (a vinyl marketplace online). It'd be a great memento of the show you saw, and priced very reasonably.
