That's not a bad thing, and the speech at the end is very nice, but the movie as a whole is more of a romp through Paris of the 1920s with "cameos" of writers and artists that we'd all love to meet. The little glimpse of Josephine Baker is a perfect example of that. Pure excitement and lots of fun, but not particularly profound. Then again, who wouldn't love to walk into a bar and see her chatting with the guests?

The young fish says "All I see is water, but I was looking for the ocean." You might think there's more to life, but this is it. It's simple, it's unsatisfying. But what matters is what you do with that time
I absolutely got the sense that in the mid 60s a large portion of the younger generation felt like they were living in a special time, both thrilling and frightening, with an exciting sense of what the future would bring. That future probably didn't turn out to be what they were hoping for, but that doesn't negate the point that that period was an example of a "golden age" that people appreciated in the moment.

That’s definitely true. I can honestly say it felt exactly as advertised. Going down the road windows down with the cool summer breeze, Sugar Ray over the radio, no cell phone or social media stealing the magic of the moment. Totally at peace with the world and feeling good with a smile on your face. I know cell phones existed but you know what I mean.
Obviously civilizations do have their golden ages so to say, periods of development and growth as opposed to when they collapse. But my goodness if I had a Time Machine I don’t know if I’d ever be able to return to the present for long, so many places, cities and civilizations to visit.
When you think about the past you dont think about the day to day workings, you think about the big historical brushstrokes. But weve always lived how we have, worked, relaxed, died. We have to learn to appreciate what we have instead of looking backward towards a time that never exists

The bessssttt part of this awesome movie was Brody as Dali! And the Versailles scene 😂 I actually had the pleasure of watching this movie on vacation in France, it was like being in a dream to see the same places just days later
