Me thinks Guy had a few pops before the practice..heehee...gotta love this old footage. Bring back Howie Meeker and Peter Puck to our beloved Hockey Night in Canada.
@@198634 Drunk or party animal.. he was a chain smoker too. A lot of players in the 70s didnt take conditioning very seriously. They all partied or drank \ smoked before or after games. What little people knew at the time was that Guy had ADHD. He admitted it himself and his behaviour in his prime is eloquent proof.
@@soulscanner66 Of course. And the main reason was simple : they didnt take conditioning seriously like today. I could be wrong but,,, guys play more games, way faster than ever before and most play several years on average than before. Thanks in large part to conditioning and taking care of your body with proper nutrition. What a contrast.
Hey xthabs789...do you have the entire Howie Meeker hockey school series? If so can I buy it off of you? You have some great vintage hockey content. You must have worked for the CBC and broke into the vaults. They are pretty tight lipped and tight assed and won't release any of it.
@@198634 I remember the first time I can remember Guy play was when I was 7 he was on New York and he scored two goals against Montreal. The crowd was going insane and all I could think was "why in the hell are they cheering for this old guy" I had no idea that he played for Montreal
Die hard NYR fan here ( Guy was a Ranger too 😂).....what a skater, what a player!.....Humble, talented and a player's player. They don't make hockey players like that anymore. F*** Gary Bettman.
You should high light Ivan Hlinka’s incredible wrist shot. He would look like he was just stick handling then all of a sudden there was that devastating wrist shot. One of the few players that never telegraphed his wrist shot.
you are right even when you find old sticks at big sports memorabilia shows they are always way shorter than the nhl players use today even shorter players like martin st louis use longer sticks than a tall player from the 70s
Guy Lafleur was so good, he didn't even know how good he was
Guy forever in our hearts and minds. Just a legend gone too soon.
RIP Guy
It's crazy how much the game has changed. He really was a monster in his time and paved the way for the new era.
Howie Meeker - 'Stop It Right There! Stop It Right There!
I loved listening to Howie analyze HNIC broadcasts when I was a kid in the 1980s.

Robert Drinkwine yup !
I read Guys book and he was a massive drunk

@@jfb.8746 That's pretty much it. If they didn't train and condition, they would get hurt pretty quickly.
This was taped at Prince of Wales Arena in St.John’s, Newfoundland. Do believe the players were Andy Meeker and Leif Seaward.
Guy should have said “do what i do and not what i say”
Glorious days!

I love how he missed when he was trying to teach kids. It's not like this was live they could have easily edited that part out.
ADHD Theatre I think he was probably hungover or still drunk !!
@@198634 that makes him kinda cool

Lafleur in Flyers colors fits great!

One of Howie Meeker Hockey Schools was hosted at Stanstead Collage, Quebec. This is not the Stanstead location.
Years ago when I was a youngster I went to Hockey School in Stanstead. Ecole de Hockey. Mike Krushalynski was one of the Pros.
I went to the Ecole de Hockey in Lachine, Quebec. 1979- 80(?). Great times!
Will have like to see Guy try this shot wiht the 2022 hockey stick😉💪
Gee-will-akers folks!
why did everyone until like 1990 play with such short sticks
you are right even when you find old sticks at big sports memorabilia shows they are always way shorter than the nhl players use today even shorter players like martin st louis use longer sticks than a tall player from the 70s
Wooden sticks are heavier.
@@baloneybrain55 The change in length predates the change in composition.
it was more physical back then....needed to keep the puck closer and be ready to be hit
Hockey is so much better to watch now with all the speed and skill on display. Thank you Gary Bettman.
Great player.......horrible coach lol
You can't teach it anyway.
Like dat

Ummmm....
fuck hockey was terrible back then
So was your mom

Hockey today sucks. Guy lafleur was a true hockey player
How so?
Why? Because not everyone was worried about “dangles”, “cellys”, “snipes” or trying to score lacrosse style goals?………
