  • Some ideas on how to use ice time with really young goalies. For all you parent volunteer coaches, we hope this helps. Camden E. is the 8 year old goalie and he does a fantastic job. Thanks, Cam!

I CANNOT thank you enough for these videos, Robb! Have never coached in my life, and my my 10 year old daughters league needed someone willing to coach all 3 goalies tonight. I was nervous as hell, but after watching this, as well as your other videos over the last few days, was able to put it all together and give them a great practice. The goalies, as well as their parents said it was great to have someone finally work with them, and they, as well as I, really had a great time.
Afterward, the head coach thanked me and asked me to come back as much as possible. The best part; spending quality time with my daughter instead of just watching from the stands.
    Thanks again!

Nice that someone takes the time to train these young kids. When I grew up, 72-years ago, we never really had any formal training like they do not and you can really see the difference in the quality of play, goal tending, etc. Congrats to the coach and kids who take to the time to really learn.

insanely awesome how you encourage the goalie to touch and feel the crease after every shot. and also the rebound control, super dope because in my experience, most coaches are focused on keeping the players moving

i'm glad you are training them out of too much knee sliding. the NHL has a massive issue with this now. I feel like since everyone is now going after tall goaltenders they feel they can still fill the net on their knees... but i'm seeing goal after goal that could be avoided if they'd stay on their feet a bit more. Brodeur was a good size but he stood as much as he could. very few people were as fast down and up like Patrick Roy was, but he was a great example of 'just enough' butterfly. when the puck was being moved around behind his net, he stayed on his feet, and whipped back and forth post to post with his stick perfectly placed to stop a wrap. and if it got tossed out in front of the net, he was standing and able to challenge forward to cut the angle. This needs to make a comeback.

This is a great video Robb. "Let the game teach them" is great advice and I probably needed to hear it.
